Haha… I had to stop watching that show before bed because my brain 🧠 had to work so hard. It had probably the most complicated plot out of all the dramas I’ve watched so far. It took a rewatch to fully understand the backstory of 5th main character because towards the end of first watch, I was more focused on two main pairs.

ML is claiming to be her boyfriend. He’s not her boyfriend at that time (obviously) but they had met previously.

Any reviews would have to contain major spoilers because things are being revealed to us all the way until the very end (like peeling layers of onions 🧅 or cabbage 🥬). But I can assure you that in the early episodes you don’t need to worry about memorizing/knowing names of most people (even ones in the house) because they won’t be in later episodes (early episodes are like a supernatural detective; after that it switches to xianxia). The important characters are the two women, unofficial hunter + his pet demon (weasel), two official hunters (plus the 8-tailed fox 🦊 and another character whose importance is going to be obvious).

I enjoyed VoS but it definitely makes your brain hurt trying to keep track of everything. When I rewatched it with friends recently, it was more clear because I would notice things that writer/director put on the screen or mentioned and that were hints of something that’d be revealed only later on.

Yeah, they thought he didn’t have enough screentime and went berserk. It wasn’t the best drama ever but it was pretty good (it was like WIFTY mixed with TFF only not as good).

The engagement is totally, MOST definitely fake and they do NOT have feelings for each other… yeah, right! 🤣🥰😍

Oh, there’s a bunch of reasons. Some people are fans of a rival actor/actress; some are haters/trolls; some people like to pretend to be fans of Person A, flame Person B, and try to start fan wars; other even more unhinged people get married to idea of a certain CP, so if one of the people in that CP has a drama with someone else, they flame/downrank that drama. There are even people who love their actor/actress but will go on a rampage against their person’s drama if they perceive some slight, like decreased role/ less screentime / not being billed first / etc. That’s kind of what happened with Veil of Shadows which was 8.7-8.8 on MDL up until the end when it got review bombed to 8.1 (now back to 8.2) because some deranged fans thought their actor/actress/CP was slighted. Just absolutely bizarre behavior 😳🙄🤨

Well, here it makes sense because it’s primarily a high school drama. But, yes, childhood connections are a well-worn trope in Chinese and Korean dramas :)

It’s a really great drama. Why did some people feel the need to try to sink its ratings and take out negative hashtags for TXW? Who knows… But I think it’s doing well locally in China.

I looked into it and apparently cracking walnuts with cellphones & other outrageous durability stunts were very common in China at that time. Same for using very fancy / pompous model names like “The Almighty King”. And even the brand name in the show is supposedly very slightly changed name of a popular phone manufacturer at that time (no longer in business — dumb phone makers couldn’t compete with smartphone makers).

Would do the same if I rewatch it. But I’d probably rewatch When Destiny Brings the Demon before L&P. I’m now firmly on the FeiLu CP ship 🛳️ and look forward to their movie (which most likely will make all of us cry if it follows the source novel) 😳🫣😭

Thankfully, there were enough present day episodes to make me kind of forget that prison thing. And, yes, their chemistry was great 🥰

I understand WHY he did it. I just don’t think HOW he did it fits the character & prior events. If it was an impulse, then beating someone up in front of many witnesses would make sense. But he clearly did a lot of preparations beforehand (like breaking up, company matters, etc.) only to do something that clearly wasn’t going to punish the bad guy or let himself get away. I’d expect him to do something smarter like framing that person or, heck, even blowing up that guy. But having a fight in a full auditorium just seemed very dumb. I still liked L&P but felt that was a bit of a letdown / eye rolling moment 🙄

I’m a bad person to ask because I’ve blocked many troll accounts in other dramas’ discussions. So if same accounts are trolling here, I’m not seeing them

The writing has been good so far so I have a hope the explanation will make sense. Not like the explanation in, say, Lighter & Princess (love that show but the explanation for ML going to prison was not written well).

ML is not bad. He’s super green flag when it comes to FL. It honestly feels like some people just fast-forwarded/skipped some parts and didn’t realize why ML was on a different math competition team than FL. But if you pay attention, everything is explained. Having said that, one of the goals of this drama is to show difficulties & adversity faced by young people, so throughout the drama everyone makes some mistakes which they reflect on and do better. No one is perfect all the time and people can make mistakes sometimes.

Based on the comments from the lead actress, the intent was to show school life, growing up and dealing with adversity. So this will probably be like WIFTY where college & adult life takes up less episodes.
