honestly, i blame the screenwriter. ye xian was a better character in the novel, but they did him worse in the drama. changed a lot in the halfway of the filming. she made him so confusing. she even made the female lead less intelligent just to make the male lead look smarter. like, gjc in the novel is twice as smart as the drama version.

she didn’t cry for a love interest, she cried for a potential friend who’s similar to her, she literally said that herself, people don’t only cry for lovers, she didn’t say “i don’t love you,” she said “i can’t love you” because he’s not someone she can see as a lover, she’s always seen him as a companion, i love that scene, it added more layers to gjc and gave her character more depth
Winwin is definitely born for historical clothes and styling. He was mesmerizing with every hanfu and every hairstyle in this drama. If his team is smart, they should push him in the Wuxia area more because his phoenix eyes are so beautiful and his microexpressions were spot on.
