Not really. Hated the amnesia plot. Just missed FL from S1. I like the actress who played the FL but I liked her better when she was the bad ass we saw at the beginning of S1.

Really enjoyed this. Showed the cycle created by domestic abuse and the crime of being a passive witness. It made sense that their plan went off the rails with the elaborate body disposal and cover up. They aren’t real criminals. With all the picture evidence of abuse he kept on his phone, I wonder if they would have been better off claiming self defense after he attacked Eun Su. Hui Su saved her life and there was enough evidence to show he was the attacker at that point. I guess they were too locked into their plan to change it. Once they buried the body and tried the cover up, I knew they would go to jail in the end. At least they didn’t do much time in prison, so the husband’s abuse was considered. Overall 8.5/10. Loved the acting. It got a bit unbelievable with the crazy police sister and look alike in the end but good watch.

Only one episode today?

That’s not what she’s playing in the story. According to the story she’s playing a young woman who is only three years older than the male lead who is supposed to be in his early 20s. So at most she’s a 25 year old. I actually think it would have been a better story if she were playing an actual mature widow in her late 30s/ early 40s who falls for a 20 year old. But that’s not the story we have been given. Not saying VS deserves to be hated but wanted to correct the record.

I think he’s doing a fabulous job acting. Like you said, you can dislike the story choices but he’s delivering on this character. He’s playing a young carefree warrior suddenly thrust to the head of his household and name. He basically took the position of his father, a position that would have likely gone to Wei Jun. Ding is doing a great showing a character that is clearly capable but is still burdened with the weakness of immaturity.

I like that they did a reset on the relationship. They get to do it right this time without all the baggage once they defeat Qi. I also think that Chu Yu and Wei Yun are at their best when they are fighting and working to save the kingdom. They we’re starting to look childish by not considering the impact of their relationship on their families. The other story that’s really interesting to me is that of the high princess and Hanmei. My bet is that he is not only a spy but a prince of Qi.

Technically they were telling the truth. They were not intimate in the sense of consummating their relationship. And she had accepted the divorce papers. The problem is they kept the truth from everyone. And I also think both were being childish and naive to think they would only be affected by this. Wei Yun as a man got off easy with the whipping but didn’t consider how a reputation loss would affect his sister in laws and their children. Chu Yun didn’t think about how it would tarnish her family name and even her sister and brother would suffer a loss of reputation.

You can definitely just watch S1 without watching S2 but you lose the happy ending.

I went with the assumption that she sees her husband in him and decided to help. It did kinda appear that the Qi assassin was moved by her help. Not sure if they will go there but it did seem something might happen romantically between the two. Maybe after she has the baby. It is odd that Wei would let his pregnant sister in law continue to have contact with an enemy assassin.

A decade?! How about almost 20 years older than AiMi. But Wu Jinyan and Wang Xingyue had great chemistry. And WJY is a much better actress than VS. The acting, chemistry and story allowed you to look pass the age gap in The Double. In this show, only Ding Yuxi is delivering.

Yeah that kinda bugs me. If they are going to get together soon they need to take steps that will not put their families in jeopardy. Especially Wei Yun. He took on the responsibility to become head of the household. There are two sister in laws and kids still depending on him. His character seems to have a good head on his shoulders and wouldn’t risk their standing. They just got back into the good graces of the emperor and the people. But acts like all that matters is Chu Yu. Chun was rightfully pissed. A lot to risk for a love affair. Go to a country cabin and stare obviously at each other 😄. Makes me wonder if we will get a happy ending or not.

That would have made more sense than what they are trying to portray. Why are they trying to act like she’s only a few years older than him? The writers and directors should have leaned into the mature woman/younger man story.

After seeing that preview it made me think that Wei Yun and Chu Yu were being really ignorant and immature. They know how their relationship would look to the outside world. At least do the divorce first or come clean to the emperor. Her marrying a dead Wei Jun was just a dumb move from the start with very little forethought about the future. Even today if you were to marry your brother’s widow you would get a side eye. They are putting both their families at risk and that’s selfish.

I do agree. I love The Double, one of my favorite Cdramas. The FL, Wu Jinyan was probably 33 or 34 when they filmed it and the ML, Wang Xingue was 22. They had a bigger age gap but didn’t look as out of place as these two. I think the story would be fine if VS was playing an older warrior who fell in love with a younger man but she is supposed to be only three years older in the story. It is very hard suspend belief when she looks older and he looks younger. I’m still rooting for the relationship but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t distracting.

You don’t need that type of scene. We don’t know how long all of them have been together or even the type of background the women have. The Wei males similar to the ML were likely attracted to women who have some martial ability. It doesn’t take a great leap of logic to believe that. And if they have been married for 2 to 5 years it is not hard to believe that they trained with their husbands. Do you really need that spelled out? These women aren’t going on military campaigns but these ladies are good enough to beat common soldiers who are likely part time farmers.

Some thoughts. I am currently up to ep 19 at the time of this post. I am still entertained by this series but I feel this show missed out on being epic. I personally found the first three episodes to be amazing. All the cringe moments in the first episodes came from the FL. I will get back to that in a moment. But with the introduction of the Wei clan and background of the kingdom, I was ready for some epic storytelling. Unfortunately with the death of the Wei males and matriarch, the scope of the story narrowed. We were basically left with the FL’s revenge plot and the ML dealing with his grief. Thankfully the ML’s story still held my interest in large part due to the actor. Which brings me to the FL’s part of the story. I’m not sure if it’s her acting ability or the way she has interpreted the character but something is off. She’s playing the character like a woman who was raised around men and has been treated like one of the boys her whole life. She doesn’t know how to display love and emotion from a romantic pov. That would make sense based on the character’s backstory of living mostly with her father and brother on military campaigns. The problem and counter is that she is not an inexperienced teen girl when it comes to love. We see that she has had a relationship with Gu. So the emotionless fish out of water when it comes to romance doesn’t make sense. That leaves us to conclude that the actress can’t act and doesn’t know how to show emotions with her face. And it’s even worse because the ML is doing a very good job showing his emotions. I don’t know the answer because this is my first time seeing Victoria Song act in anything. I can only wait and see how it plays out but as the focus becomes more on her and the ML this could be a problem. While I still enjoy the story, although the editing has been awful these last two episodes (save for another rant), her acting or how her character is being handled has been off putting.

It did seem convenient in that it kept the princess from going to the emperor. So he does still come off as suspicious. Hope he doesn’t end up being a bad guy using the princess.

Why would that bother you? It would not be unusual for a warrior clan to have women who also fight. I actually like that the Wei family is a family of warriors.

I really enjoyed today’s episodes. It was fast paced and although the editing was a bit choppy, I enjoyed all the action. And we are finally getting to what a lot of people were waiting for ❤️. Glad to see they will not drag the romance out.

That’s a bit much. Saying she looks older than the ML is not the same as saying she looks old and haggard. VS looks beautiful. It’s just the way she’s playing the role is a bit off. That could be the writing or her interpretation of the character. I’m still interested in the overall intrigue of the story. I think they will still have to sell people on the romance. The previews give me hope.
