same here. just like FL in love in the clouds... too much telling, not enough showing
Well, it's the Female Lead reality - they are powerful, until the drama starts and/or ML is around. Then, even if they do not become useless, they are clearly playing the 2nd fiddle to the ML.
Even in supposedly FL-centric dramas (not necessary talkin about "Are you the One?" here).
That's the problem with cdramas They choose plot focused female centric novels and then them into basic romance…
Yeah, it's exactly why I am unsure if I would like to see my favourite novels transferred to the screen. I can already see female leads there getting dumbed down and the romance expanded, so the ML can save her over and over and over again. Or the villains suddenly running circles around her to create more tension.
Someone who is a big "Malicious Empress" fan told me recently that ML is quite insignificant there during the first half (or maybe even 2/3) of the story, and for quite some time, it's pretty much only about the female lead and her revenge. I wonder how it will be presented in the drama, especially with an ML's star power.
Nah, the ending is decent - they arrived at their exile destination, without losing anyone, which never happens, and also fatter and richer than they were when leaving. And ready for the next part.
Well, romance is super limited, and revenge is also limited, because the fl is so damm smart and forward-thinking, that it's almost impossible to calculate successfully against her :). Unless the Royals do it, and she still makes things difficult for them. But, if you are not Royal and you are not careful, you get your leg broken, and you get raped by your own stewards. Yes, I'm serious. She is very ruthless and not a fan of letting villains go and allowing them to do more damage, as it usually happens.
1st part is about her attempts to protect her family and change the future, and when she couldn't do the latter, she makes sure to create the safest possible landing for her and her in-laws. 2nd part is about the exile, which quickly turns into a business picnic thanks to her planning, scheming and money-making ideas.
She doesn't know Martial Arts, but she has excellent people around her to execute her ideas - in the 1st part, it's mostly her father, in 2nd part, it's her husband and his brothers. Later, she builds a bigger group of followers. The way everyone follows her and doesn't question her because she is a woman, it's one of the most unique ways about both novel and drama.
Yes, it's the one with Zhi Chunhe, and yes, the novel has a happy ending, there are also zero misunderstandings between leads and zero love triangles (okay, there is one attempt, which ends very badly for the woman trying to snatch ML)
Both parts completed until now are listed on MDL - YT links were purged, but the Bilibili's ones still work (I recently added them in the comments section). I think Dailymotion also still has it.
And definitely no mainstream drama, no way I would miss it :).
Unfortunately, a bit, yes. I am more of a "process leading to ending" guy, as endings can be very disappointing, so I didn't mind much unfinished business with the final villain. Still, it's a highly rated and extremely popular drama when it debuted, getting rated at Douban is a perfect example of it. For comparison, my favourite Lu Songli's adventures aren't rated there (they aren't finished either, as the original novel is insanely long).
So, how does it work - supposedly it's highly FL-centric drama (at least based on how Novel was) - I understand both leads on the poster, as it's typical, but also it's the ML who is listed as the 1st one in the cast.
the producer/writer must be happy because their drama becomes a hot discussion, even as a bad one mixed with cursing.
Yes, I'm sure he is partying for making history with a 3.0 Douban rating. More like drinking alone in a dark basement, while hiding from the pissed-off investors.
And the irony is one poster laffed at PA rating of 5.3 on Douban saying it was pathetic . Loool
I didn't know that PA scored so low at Douban, expected 6+. 5.3 is the same as "Romance of the female soldier", and I have no doubt that PA is a better show, despite various shortcomings and the messed-up ending.
Title:"Mother-in-law and daughter-in-law join forces to empty the Marquis's mansion" | 婆媳联手,侯府搬空FL…
This one is really, really good and creative (at least for me), even if highly misandrist. I guess, many female viewers will have the latter as a positive ;).
Just another typical, run-of-the-mill show featuring a supposedly badass/strong Female Lead, who is strong at the beginning (but ML is quickly established as someone much stronger...), but later, as the number of her love interests increases, the dumber and more useless she becomes, so ML candidates can save her over and over and over again to push Romance forward.
Impressive.
Unfortunately, Douban rating is stuck at 3.0 :(

"Still trying to find a name" - her name is 吕妍 aka Lu Yan.
Nothing on the Part 3, though.
I prefer non-ML dramas, but it's difficult to find them, so I have to compromise ;).

C-drama writers will never change.
