I’m enjoying it so far. The pace of the show feels balanced to me (not too slow and not rushed) to introduce you to the key characters and the inciting incident at a natural point. Some may not like the little screen time together of the main couple at this stage but actually I find those rare moments rewarding as a viewer. I trust the journey the director is taking me on. He is setting it all up nicely.
The world building colours. The romantic scenes of unity. The adventure outside the palace. The fight scenes. The OST. Yep okay, you’ve sold it and I am seated 🍿
The best revenge for this delay is that this show does super well and is popular and addictive that the platform gods are so taken aback as to why they ever doubted us and didn’t release it sooner.

The signs are all there that it’s him. 1) FL calls him the master of poisons while a poison pill is causing mayhem in the city. 2) He is the only one not present with the main group when they all ambushed Ling Yunfei’s place. And 3) he was the one escorting out Lady Xue after they received the pill. A nice little chat in the shadows I’m sure.
But also yes your theory on the backstory makes a lot of sense. The pieces all fit.
I hate to be the one to do this but if the FL is too clever and is always one step ahead that reads like boring storytelling to me. Nothing unexpected happens. I hope along the way she faces dangers and unpredictability that tests her cause right now she seems too smart and aware of everything.
