How similar is the series with the novel? I plan to read it because the series ended on such a cliffhanger. 😭
Novel is darker and grittier than the series. The action and plot is insane. If you have a good imagination, it's like watching an action movie lol. All the things that are subtly shown in the series can be read in details in the book like Liu Yi and his brother-in-law's feelings for each other, how Liu Yi took over the gang and expanded it, how obsessed he's with revenge. Chu San's slow and steady success in finance world, the things he does to possess Liu Yi completely are crazy. The manipulative and cunning He Chu San you see in series is nothing in front of novel He Chu San. Ending of season 1 only takes us to 40% of novel's length. And it also miss a lot of complicated gang connections and serious business which are a big part of the story.
I try to read the books after watching a couple of episodes of the show so I can imagine the characters as actors while reading it. Btw did you see xizhao's almos kiss on their Thailand concert? It's crazy and I'm scared for season 2 because of the history of Chinese BLs.
Believe me I'm trying to stay calm but I'm not. I keep imagining season 2. Like how some scenes from novel would play out with xizhao and other actors. Even if season 2 doesn't happen, it's gonna play in my head like a movie for a long long time lol
No. That's why I'm trying to keep calm lol. The actors have talked about it a couple of times and some other people involved with the show have talked about needing visas to film in other country but there's no official announcement yet.
Ok I loved the series till episode 9. I can deal with LF being pathetic and BLQ being cruel but last two episodes were not good enough for me. I wanted a more detailed ending. The wedding scene was beautiful but crying screaming confession and conversation in which they share their feelings and the thought process behind their actions would have much better. It was easily a 8/10 for me but the last couple of episodes weren't satisfying at all and that makes it 6/10 for me. The same ending could have been shown in a better more clear and detailed way and that would have made it more effective and satisfactory. It's not bad. Infect this is the only series I have been able to finish watching after Sammy's children's day hangover (completely different vibe lol). It's a ok ok series for me.

Not all characters can be of everyone's liking I guess. We know XF is shy, timid and has low self esteem. He has been conditioned to sacrifice himself for his family since childhood. He feels like LQ helps his family because he sleeps and do chores for him. Combined with his love for LQ and pressure from his family, all his actions make sense to me. He tried to leave it all behind and asked for divorce. He refused to move in with LQ. He has started taking interest in stock market and learning new things. He argued with his brother when he felt his brother's action can harm LQ. I see it all as his character development. He folded real quick when his family needed help because he's conditioned to do so since forever. When LQ implied that not moving in would mean complete break up, he took the key because he love LQ. He still can't share his thoughts on business with others because he's not confident. It all makes sense to me. Changing your habits and thought process takes time. Specially if we aren't trying to do it consciously. Even in real life, it takes up years to change our behaviour and personality. I don't think he's gonna become this confident businessman who's equal to his partner at the end of the show. I feel like he's gonna stay this soft, submissive guy even if he sets some boundaries with his family and saves LQ's money and becomes very knowledgeable about stock market. Because that's what he is. That's how some people are. People can dislike the character and the show but expecting all characters to develop or act in a way people feel they should is not it.
