this! sometimes the leads do get emotional and use that to guide decision making rather than logic, but they are flawed characters struggling with the upper echelon of society who have the upper hand. it’s normal for them to make mistakes and have setbacks especially when they’ve started from nothing but now have everything to lose. I personally enjoy how they’re not able to see through every trap their enemies set for them and need to stand together to fight back.

it was a trap set by mdm yu but this sounds like a dig at fty. the yu and wu families told the grand empress dowager about fty’s grandmother on purpose so that she would also pressure the emperor about being more filial towards her, which he didn’t like.

In one of the eps when they were fighting, FTY calls him “Zhao Daren” which means Lord Zhao, and that’s a really formal title. normally she calls him “Jiu Ye” which is Ninth Master, which is his title amongst close friends (like his close soldiers and household members) not “Mr Zhao.” she only calls him by his full govt name “Zhao Ling” when she’s being very serious or mad.

we’re seeing this show from an outside perspective but it’s normal for teens to be like that. also as he explains in 25, he forgave ZL long ago but couldn’t help feel distant from the new him who was gone for 5 years. I think that’s normal considering even FTY feels that to an extent.
