I found who that might be in the novel, kou houjou, a friend of fml's uncle, i.e, yan jiang's dad. That character had many masks for different moods and rarely put down his mask cz he's supposed to be so beautiful he makes others uncomfortable 🙈🤭 but he's a physician here so idk.

Hehe they took many character traits but left out the underlying logic in favour of comedy. Or just used comedic logic for not comedic things sooo, looking kinda odd here & there is a given. Its not copyright, its the new laws and censorship. I think they don't like some things now, like showing poisoning in food and also maybe the consort plot. They cut the poisoning bit during review and also took the whole marraige and divorce route to give her the career track back. They could've kept the base and taken an entirely unserious original direction for the drama to begin with but they didn't do that and now we have messy situations.

Ooh in the novel they adressed it, his og backstory is darker than in the anime. He was abandoned at birth and re-orphaned again before getting trafficked as a child slave. So his surroundings were always changing from being sold here and there. His current dad found him getting sacrificed to some God and rescued him. When dad got married, they adopted him as their son. Despite his gratitude, the deep seated trauma and trust issues had him repeatedly trying to escape. So to stop him, his mom made up stories about how their house is haunted and secretly rearranged the interior often to ensure he can't find his way out. Ironically he ended up developing some kinda mental block regarding spatial coordination which manifested as a terrible sense of direction from all the attempts and getting lost everytime.

Yea plus if you think of someone as your friend and care abt them, all the memories, experiences nd care aren't just gonna vanish. That's why even some SA victims irl can't take action when it's from ppl close to them bcz they feel hurt, confused and hesitate. Just coz they aren't wishing death upon someone or beating them up doesn't mean they secretly wanna get married to them or imagining a romantic future with them.
