A people that follows a demented, mad, Nazi and arrogant man like Zelensky does not have the right credentials…
I’m afraid the answer is yes. By the time Russia mounted the SMO 14,000 people on the eastern border had been killed. Don’t believe US state propaganda on CNN or BBC.
What they’re trying and failing to do to Russia the US with France and traitorous neighbouring countries are trying and failing to do with the Sahel Alliance. All the same neo-colonial war being waged against countries with resources who want to use them for the benefit of their own people.
I see that it’s been a while so you probably researched this issue for yourself by now.
I cried many times during this well-paced and meticulously crafted historical drama for the extreme sacrifices so many in the global south have to make just to reclaim their land, labour and dignity from European and imperial invaders but I was also uplifted thinking of the anti-imperial liberation struggles still ongoing today in Cuba and Venezuela; in Yemen, DRC, The Alliance of Sahel States and Sudan; in Russia and North Korea; and in Iran and Palestine as well as many more, that a better world is eventually possible if we resist and fight.
I wish many full moons and full hearts for those who fight still even when the odds seem overwhelmingly outside their favor.
This is more than a historical retrospective; for communities still engaged in struggle and those in solidarity with them, Echoes of a Thousand Moons is an inspiration for our equally tumultuous and epoch-defining times
thank you for reading! yes, i agree egoist (2022) is a great reference in this context.it is certainly obvious…
It was a pleasure to read. Thank you for taking the time to do this detailed analysis and for situating the production in the context of the wider BL industry.
In far too many cases queerness has been reduced to commodified aesthetics in alignment with western values which is sad since it means suppressing the parts of queer expression that are distinctly Asian and that do not align with those.
Most industries aren’t even trying to resist and the most prolific producer actively leans into it. Great to see that although substantially down in quantity, when it comes to live-action adaptations, Japanese BL is certainly not out on the qualitative front.
Very comprehensive review of both strengths and weaknesses.. As I was reading especially your comparator queer titles in this vein I was reminded of the Japanese movie Egoist (2022) which I feel handles these themes of queer loneliness, isolation, parental deprivation, found family, loss and discovery of truly transformational love where you least expect it.
Queerness isn’t only expressed between men using their genitals, but I think a lot of international BL fans have been conditioned by certain BL industry commercial leanings, the lack of real queer progressive politics, and ultimately by normalising BLs devoid of any queer creativity in art that has anything interesting to say, that this is true
How come historical facts and a war were 20 million Chinese people - mostly civilians - died is preachy? How do…
This is just sad but also very irritating.
Because people from that country like most of the west had so much of their history doctored in textbooks, and the fabricated story embellished in Hollywood and popular culture, when they come face-to-face with the actual facts they just have an emotional meltdown.
Extremely annoying. Even after watching the events of the past five years including all the “freedom and democracy” western governments getting together to carry out multiple genocides in front of everyone’s eyes, with the help of their most prestigious media, the people from the countries with the most advanced, sophisticated and relentless propaganda on the planet can still manage to convince themselves that it’s other people who are subjecting them to “propaganda”. It’s a entire mental illness at this point.
My god this drama is so rivetingly good. I rarely watch several episodes in a single night.
Exquisite writing, the characterisation is perfection, the storytelling intricate but balances all the many overlapping and crisscrossing story arcs, even the musical score powerfully accentuates all the moments I’m moved to laugh, cry or simply be blown away.
Now it looks like Tian Jia Tai is about to fall in love with completely the wrong woman (he’s not the only man in this unfortunate predicament) but in his case in can see this leading to a separate war.
One more before bed because I can’t stop pressing play …
Wǒ gàosù nǐ the stress and tension will grip you almost immediately. Very strong writing and directing that gives the actors a platform to properly show their skills.
I really appreciate the places where they inject some levity. War is no joke but the Nazis of Asia are no match for people who have a higher calling than their own individual gratification or need to dominate others for material advantage.
The whole world owes a debt to the 450 million Chinese people that resisted Imperial Japan, 35 million of whom gave their life as the ultimate sacrifice.

But I like to savour good dramas so I’m pacing myself
Someone has kindly added the historical context for people struggling to grasp the wider significance of the investigations and plot points
Killer and Healer does this much better and you’re in no doubt how deeply they feel for, understand, are committed to and in love with each other.
I also enjoyed Realm’s Night Rain immensely; one of my top BLs of 2025
