@Cupcake I didn’t see any romance but it’s neither here nor there if you enjoyed it.

Not every commercial venture targeted at BL fans is BL but I will not interrupt the fantasy because I can see it’s comforting for you bc it’s not harming anyone 🌸

@Cupcake Toxic masculinity isn’t about looks it’s about behaviour and expecting men to look a certain way in order to carry out certain roles effectively. Masculinity is entirely made up so it can be anything, but insisting there’s only one way to be/look masculine enough to be effective is homophobic because what you’re really referring to is straightness. That is homophobia.

Women can embody and project these ideas thoughtlessly if they haven’t thought about these things or been educated about them. It’s not name calling, but calling out people who bring ethnocentric ideas from their own culture to pass judgement on people from cultures they know little about and clearly do not respect.

I’ve also enjoyed the exchange we have had and hearing more about how you arrived at the impressions you mentioned. What would be
really civilised is to be conscious of how your words affect other fans
and not contribute to a toxic atmosphere. We can all do this. Being
cruel and unnecessarily critical isn’t clever or fun and you and I know there are other ways one can participate in fandom without resorting to that

@Cupcake I blocked the person who was replying in this thread with violence so as you can see I went back and edited the first line to manually type in their name to make it clear who I was replying to, but likely you overlooked that.

@Jalapenosprinkle You know Baby Face Nelson was young and smooth faced yet one of the deadliest and mos powerful…
Yeah he looks like an Asian man. I realise a lot of you are young and not culturally sophisticated but criticising an Asian series because they didn’t make a character white enough is something I thought was too low for people who enjoy enjoy BL to do bc it’s very ignorant and racist. It’s the reason these comments come from western fans who can only accept things if they’re done the way they’re acceptable in the in Europe or North America. #StopAsianHate

kamol is the least mafia looking mafia boss i've ever seen lol
@Lalalila I’ve been thinking about this comment. Maybe it’s because you only see the unsuccessful ones whose mugshots you’re familiar with are taken after they’ve been captured and their way to jail. The Hollywood fantasy of mafia look is an exaggerated fantasy

I have NOT seen KinnPorsche and I am having a hard time seeing Kamol as a mafia boss that's supposed to strike…
@Jalapenosprinkle You know Baby Face Nelson was young and smooth faced yet one of the deadliest and mos powerful mafia dons in history right? Was he miscast for the role? There are as many looks for mafia men as they are mafia men.

Glad you’re enjoying it

That weird AT-KinnPorsche person I was forced to block:

KP is not BL. It’s got men raping men in it and it was promoted hard to BL fans because that’s how they’ll make real the money. Mafia ha ha. Tell me one single mafia deal, business or activity that we saw Kinn do, never mind be successful at.

If you like KP what are you doing here ranting about a series that you don’t like rather than stay in KP spaces and hype your own; does that even make sense to a sane person?

You try to ignore but you can’t because you are emotionally incontinent that is why people keep saying KP fans are toxic. That’s the most basic reason.

I am not going even to discuss anything with you about comparing media because I am seeing the Kinn Porsche in your profile and from reading your three poorly constructed sentences, yeah it’s not going to be a productive discussion with Mr Toxic Masculinity has entered the chat.

It’s people like you that make it difficult for Good KP fans to not be labelled with the same brush. Rest

Yes of course I do get that what you’re saying wasn’t meant to be deep but what I am raising is that perhaps we need to be introspective sometimes about our instincts and why we always reach for the same conservative readings in a genre which is supposed to be aspirational and transformational.

For example a scrawny weak guy making a good soldier analogy - those are not the men at the top of soldiering or making the decisions, spending the money, ordering people to their deaths, Exercising Power. So you see how whenever we talk about masculinity we still reach for these outdated ideas that in reality it do not bear out even in war, something highly correlated with men and masculinity? Once again because those men may rely more on their physical bodies to perform their work they’re not making it to the top proportionally the same as the men in leadership, bc they’re probably going to die young compared with men who are wielding the real power.

Kamal cannot be compared with a private at the bottom of the military hierarchy he can only be compared to the men at the top and they’re
not going have sixpack and all the rest of it because how you win wars and decide what to do, even if to go to war and who you’re going to war with, is based on strategy that means Intelligence that means one’s looks are irrelevant. So I’m questioning why we need to impose irrelevant ideas especially in this genre.

And yes there is a particular problem with toxic fandom behaviour among KP fans, present company excluded of course, but that’s for another day ha ha

PS: Other great mafia (actually BL not BL-adjacent) you might enjoy – HIStory3 Trapped, Killer and Healer, Mr Cinderella, off the top of my head, that are well written, with a plot, character growth, good experienced actors who know how to emote and including a diverse range of masculinity and not privileging only straight passing, hegemonic maleness

Kamol’s enemies fear him while Kinn’s do not. Why, because we actually see Kamol doing mafia work and using…
Thank you for your response. I am genuinely mystified why people who enjoy KP keep coming here to say why things they subjectively like better are objectively not good in UN. You don’t see fans of UN going to KP‘s page to say similar so I don’t understand the motivation or the mentality.

I’m also not understanding the comments about Kamol’s actor’s looks because it sounds like people are challenging this person’s masculinity on the basis of him not looking like a stereotypical straight-passing brutish, muscular, white male - the Hollywood fantasy of a mafia don. Not only is that a bit homophobic but also ethnocentric. A gay, Asian man doesn’t look to have to look a certain way to do certain jobs or to be understood as masculine. This preoccupation of non-Asians just flies in the face of logic and everything we know about actual mafia men even in the west.

Those hard-faced men that you prefer are rather street thugs not top-flight, millionaire mafia men and they’re more likely to die young or be sitting on death row obviously because they rely more on their fists than their intellect, than being at the top of a business empire and flying around in a private jet, as Kamol does. It is precisely why even in his own series no one fears Kinn.

Not debating just giving my opinion

I just came from rewatching KP, so I'm having a hard time seeing Kamol as mafia. He hasn't got the fear factor.
Kamol’s enemies fear him while Kinn’s do not. Why, because we actually see Kamol doing mafia work and using his brain to defeat his enemies which is how every man gets to the top in any human endeavour, not by heavy eyebrow makeup.

Who fears Kinn? Besides you I mean.

What’s the point in comparing these two series anyway? I don’t get it

Ha ha I just noticed Ton’s wiggly toes and feet.

Yoon tweeted today about the Special Ep and made everyone so happy. Still no date yet but it’s enough to keep us going for now

@kikuitadaka Thanks for the link. I’ll take a look. Maybe it should be added to a discussion here with translations of their interviews so it doesn’t get lost in all the traffic

I never noticed Ton before UN but he and Yoon make a great love team and as we know any mafia man laundering his money into the legal economy needs a great Accountant 😃.

Envious incels from that toxic fandom have come together to suppress the rating. This is how they use their loneliness…
@BL MaMa 50 I think KP people the fandom experience for the first time, much like 2Gether at a very stressful time in the lives of millions of people but I don’t know any more than that.

So interesting these anti-BLs using BL to make money off the BL industry while trying to de-centre the long standing community of progressive creators and fans, but they’re never better than the work they’re critiquing and often worse. Interesting propaganda tool but I guess that’s what happens when capitalism takes over art.

I honestly did not expect to but I really enjoyed Yoon as Kamol who had to act as someone different from all his previous 5 BL roles, as well as become the total opposite of himself and didn’t drop character once, and he deserves props for that. I think he looked like an actual mafia man rather than a western person’s idea that they learned from Hollywood shows. Mafia men don’t even look like that in America so it’s hilarious. By the time you get to where you are going around on private jets and having 10 competitive, large businesses in 4-5 sectors that are all flourishing you’re not looking like a street thug because you’ve actually used your brain to get to where you are and at that stage mafia kingpins are indistinguishable from any investment banker or wealthy politician (the quintessential gangsters btw). Check private jet lounges and you’ll see - all smooth, pampered faces.

I especially like that they didn’t give into Western fans expectations that they would make an Asian mafia character look more like the white ideal of a mafia character like Scarface or the Godfather - so 100% for authenticity. The men that survive to be at the top of the mafia food chain don’t look like the Hollywood ideal because they get there through brains not brawn. Intelligent people with experience of the real world wrote this script and deserve praise for this.

Yeah someone told me UN is the most streamed on YT in 2022 so far and that not even BBS had such consistent views but I’ve asked for the data even if just for myself as I don’t want to upset other fandoms.

All in all I’m very happy for their success and I hope to see a lot more from this production company no matter who the actors

Well, I do not know whether this was made for thai and/or international audience. However, it bears all the elements…
Loved it and was especially blown away by Yoon’s portrayal. I went in with no expectations and may’ve discovered my Thai BL of the year for 2022 .

I’m so glad the endorsements and commercial opportunities are continuing to roll in for this talented crew that went above and beyond to make something really impactful as well as faithful to the genre and it’s audiences 💕💕💕

@Nimmerland You started a war unprovoked and now you’re crying because you didn’t win. Hmmmmm

No one told you to go back anywhere. You would do well to learn to respect other cultures that don’t reflect your world view and go and enjoy the things you think are better, instead of bullying others over fiction
