They didn't really share the back story but Wang Quan Hong Ye ( cheif of YiQi alliance) isn't lenient towards spirits at all but after his own son falls in love with a spirit, the noble families of YiQi alliance attack him with thousands swords and injure badly him so he leaves them. I think after that, he becomes sympathetic towards the spirits and that's why he let constable Lu and the wonam abductor (I don't remember his name😅) off the hook so easily and was so ready to work with THH.I dont think these script writers have it in them to surprise us though😂 I'm still watching too and I have to admit even though the script is ridiculous at times there's still something pulling me to watch the rest🤭

Second season (Love in pavilion) is about the story of CY's character's parents. CY's character is called Wang Quan FuGui, cousin of Yue Chu and Wang Quan Hong Ye's son. FuGui's story will be told in the third season (Sowrd and beloved)
I agree with you, I'm not really a fan of memory loss in romantic dramas but I was kind of looking forward to see that story in the third season🤭 In that season, FuGui dies and Qing Tong (his love interest, a spider spirit) waits for him for 500 years to be reincarnated but I guess we won't get to see that anymore🤧

About memory loss thing, I guess it works better in the anime since the memory loss doesn't happen in their first life but in the modern times with reincarnation of the human. But I admit this plot wasn't done well in this season with HH and YC and it's totally the script writers' fault.

Actually memory loss is the basis of foxspirit matchmaker story. Since it's about the love between a spirit and a human and humans' lives are shorter than spirit's so when the human dies the tree is supposed to protect their love and when the human is reborn again, they won't remember their love. The spirit is supposed to find them and make them fall in love with them again. But since reincarnation is banned in chinna they cut that out and inserted the memory loss stories like this.
