Peak Drama, Great Acting, but I needed more of the romance.
I finally managed to get back around this one. I don't know why i put it off in the first place, because this is actually such an absolutely great drama.
To address the elephant in the room.
Like most people, i watched it because I was expecting it to be leaning more on the romance side, because i'm excited about the pairing, and obviously since it's cdrama, it's going to be a slow burn of course, so i waited and waited, anddddd nothing. I'm not saying there's no romance in the drama, there is, though it's just a small portion of it. This would've gone on to 30-40 episodes if they fleshed out the romance. I felt really bummed out due to the lack of it. This leans more on Drama/Mystery, which in most cases i would've dropped after a few episodes, because i'm not like my parents who love watching chaotic family drama, which is what this one is about, but surprisingly it was written really great!
The family drama and the mystery around it are annoying, frustrating, funny, whatever emotion you get whenever you hear/see asian family drama, throw it all in. It is peak asian core. It's true to life, because they hit all the aspects that every Asian family goes through. I was enjoying it so much that i forgot i went into this expecting heavy romance.
The acting is so great, very impressive. The chemistry between the characters is good. Some side characters are passive, but whatever, they are not the focus. The acting award for this one really goes to Mom and Dad. It's so like my parents. Especially the actor for the mom, i saw her in some other dramas before. She's really good at playing those intense/commanding characters.
Cinematography is great, soundtracks are good. I was looking at my notes, but there is barely any because i was so immersed in this show. It is really that good that it takes you out of the real world.
Highly recommend this one if you're looking for a family drama to watch. Just set your expectations for the romance low.
