As many people who loved The Untamed will want to watch this, know that this is a Wen Ning centric movie. There is however a 10 sec clip with Wei Wuxian's back supporting Wen Ning to get out of the illusion he was put into! Regarding the story, I actually liked it! It wasn't awesome and something that I would re-watch though. I felt that the character of Wen Ning was very much changed from the prequel: where he was shy before, now he is confident. A huge change for me, at least. Story wise, the plot was ok, the characters were likable and the actress for a-Qing was stunning. I do have an issue with the chains of Wen Ning as there is no mention how he got them on!(yes, they make him powerful, but when The Untamed left, he was chain-free). Music wasn't very The Untamed though..It could have been much better! The CG action was ok, the same level as in the prequel. All in all, to be honest, the movie was better than some other high-budget movies that China makes!( but that might be because The Untamed presented already the characters and their background). I recommend fans of MDZS/The Untamed to watch it, but not to have much expectations as the movie it's only a "night hunt" of Wen Ning and Sizhui, unrelated to the other characters of The Untamed. (just a rant of mine: I did hope for some bonding between cousin and nephew, but yeah...got nothing!:))

As someone who dislikes many Chinese dramas due to their length or better said, due to the fact that they tend to ruin many good characters, The Untamed got my heart! I have read beforehand the novel and watched the donghua/animation version also, so I already knew the story line and the characters, but man the directors of this drama truly kept to the original idea of the novel, as best as they could with the censorship that they have in China for both BL and corpses, zombies, undead themed dramas. The actors also have great compatibility and although I wasn't very convinced from the first 2 episodes, as I was watching, the acting got better and better and fell in love with them! The soundtrack, the background and even the secondary characters such as the Coffin City arc are very well thought details and in no episode did they ignore the main plot. I recommend this drama to all who like fantasy, brotherhood to the borderline of slight BL, well balanced characters and gorgeous background sounds and pictures!

I haven't read yet the novel, so I don't know if it's a reliable adaptation, but the production, the actors, the background and the music are stunning and it deserves a watch. Excellent leading characters that made the story come to life. I recommend this drama for all those who like political dramas, with little to no break from the main plot of the story, which I'm telling you, this happens very rarely in Chinese dramas! Very satisfying end for all characters and it makes me re-watch and re-watch. Also, I loved the fact that the romance was very limited, almost non-existent in this drama! It would have taken from the good story-line that is more based on brotherhood, family, revenge and the desire for the truth to be known by the population. Also, the brotherhood of this drama is off the charts!! I have re-watched it multiple times and I'm seriously not getting bored at all! The OST is gorgeous and the fact that the main song is sang by the main character makes it even better. If you ever decide to watch Nirvana in Fire, you will need to watch maybe around 3 episodes to catch exactly what is going on, since at the 1st episode there are many characters introduced which are all important to the final plot.

For those who are here because of The Lost Tomb series: The movie is not related at all with the novels or the other dramas, so don't consider it a sequel or prequel to the main story. In my opinion, the CGI was not good but also not bad and the characters have no development, which..sure..it's a movie, so not much time to develop here. The tomb story was interesting and the traps from within were really good for a tomb movie. The main problem that I have in general with Chinese dramas/movies is the English speaking part which is sooo bad! It made me skip it because of the terrible dubbing, so be prepared for that. The brotherhood between Wu Xie and Xiao Ge/Zhang Qiling is pretty good here! I would say that it's more pronounced here that in The Lost Tomb 2. All in all, I do recommend to watch it if you have to spare 2 hours and see more of Wu Xie and Zhang Qiling, just don't expect for the movie to have that wow factor.
