i did not expect this to be so heavy! watching ep.12 i felt physically ill
Same I feel so disgusted that not only they fed on the flesh and blood of the Fengshan clan but also enslaving them, forcing them to breed with their own kind, not to mention child abuse... its utterly inhumane.
I know China trying to be subtle about these subjects on screen but doesn't really change how dark and heavy it is
Actually, TVB had a series about this backstory. So it was done before.
I remember there was one adaptation where they show Mei Chao Feng actually fell in love with her Master, Huang Yao Shi (he had some feelings for her as well despite having a wife...) instead of Xuan Feng in the backstory (basically she just used XF to get the manual). Forgot which version but man, I thought that was the most ridiculous thing ever that totally ruined it for me.
I guess never told was not the right word. I meant this one here by far is the most refreshing and tragic.
I like this adaptation with a whole new in-depth retelling of the never told backstory about Mei Chao Feng and Mei Xuan Feng and all of Hua Island. MZY and HY got that unique chemistry together for being the good and bad couple.
Its pretty cool that they will retell these from perspective of each of the great martial master so it comes in 5 parts and we are only on the second. The only thing that kinda takes me away from the first part of the story is Guo Jin and no offense to the actor but I wish they had pick someone younger to played his role. You can totally see the age gap between him and Huang Rong.
Whats most ridiculous to me is Junior mom pretty much holds all the secrets and doesnt anyone to know but its always her who spill it by accident by blabbing it in the open for other people to overhear
Maybe its just me but I think it would be more satisfying to see fake emperor Yan Han live, get sentenced and pay for his crimes. All or most the criminals in this drama got away too easy by death.
Something sus about empress dowager face when grand aunt mentions prince Yu have twins boy and girl... the emperor mustve had a twin brother or something
Can't refute anything AvenueX said either. You really have to shut your brain off sometimes when watching certain…
Her other senior brother (the funny one) did mention she use to dress up as a man, so maybe nobody knew who she really was back then when she was working with her dad and her dad hid it well π€·ββοΈ
No hate to both the actors. But the script is illogical during case solving scenes. I know the investigation is…
Can't refute anything AvenueX said either. You really have to shut your brain off sometimes when watching certain dramas like this one. Sames tropes as any other but as long as its enjoyable, I don't care if its outdated. Though I also find some of the cases not very satisfying when solved like the case of QW's senior brother. It would've been nice if there were more flashbacks of him and his wife, how she fell ill and then lead him to commit those murders in order to cure her and how her brother end up getting locked up. Other cases also were over too quickly. Maybe because of episodes limitations, they try rushing through the side cases before getting to the main one. I really like detective dramas that have cases that all ties in with each other leading to the main case at the end. Unfortunately, they don't do anything elaborate like that here.
I just assume Shen Wan being skilled as a doctor is because she really grew up at Medicine King Valley and experienced as coroner because she probably learns from her father and follows him around solving many cases since young. But you know, sound like she has a very busy childhood going back and forth between two places. lol
I'm really just loving Li Landi's acting here, how gorgeous she looks and her sweet scenes with Ao Rui Peng. The romance and Shen Wan's looking professional and smart when solving cases/curing patients is really what keep me going
Gosh, Yan Chi is so precious, a total green forest for giving Shen Wan so many protective charms. First, Han Yue the short sword, Commander token, then the red flare and eagle whistle. Other personal items including the autopsy gloves, the Acupuncture needles and autopsy toolbox. I don't think we ever had a ML that given FL that many useful items before. Goes to show he really want to be there for her at all times.
This is really a very good ending. They didn't throw away SYM revivals mechanic in the beginning of the drama, instead, use it to reset the endings multiple times. Everything came back full circle and made sense. Brilliant!

Now I just want to know when will our main couple get married? What episode is the wedding? Yan Chi need to be quick!
