The student council at this high school doesn't appear to do anything student council-like. Does Doan ever preside over a meeting? Shouldn't there be more members? LOL
Ugh. I am not a fan of smearing the cake in the guest of honor's face. We do that in my country at weddings. And at least my colleagues in India used to do that at work birthday parties. So I guess they do it in Korea, too? When his seniors graduate and he's the only member left, I hope Taekyun's first order of business as president is to ban the tradition.
God damn, Taekyun is like always two inches from figuring it out with Shinwoo and always gets it wrong. Hopefully when Taekyun is president, his second order of business is to outlaw dramatic tension and suspense. Its killing me.
Hopefully we're done with the “Taekyun falls down” part of the story. I think he's done that in most of the episodes. He is very lucky the teacher put him in student council and not the high wire and balance beam club. He can't stand on his tip toes without falling down. Backwards. How do you fall backwards from your tip toes? He might want to see a doctor about that. Might be an inner ear infection....
I love grandma, the character and the actress. She's wonderfully natural and not the crabby, nasty, hunched-over…
Than I think is probably way off in his assessment of the reason why the villagers are in debt to loan sharks. He thinks the problem could be solved by better agricultural management so that the people won’t need loans. Really the problem is Din, The villagers actually have plenty of money. They just take out loans so that Din will visit them each month to collect payments.
“You mean, if I pay you back, you’ll stop coming by to rough me up? Can I have another loan then?”
Yeah, this series has bit off more than it can chew. We’ve got one story where the character is attempting to institute agricultural reforms in a village (yeah, farmers really like to listen to non-farmers tell them how to farm. This will go well), another with a teacher who needs to redesign a curriculum even though he isn’t an actual trained teacher. And another two who need to take down a large, entrenched crime syndicate by themselves. Faced with those challenges, I’d probably take a break and shower quite often. It’s not like these long standing issues will be resolved in four more episodes anyway.
I want to give this show a passing grade, though it’s going to be a mess. I think on a per Kg level, this series might have the densest mass of handsomeness of any of the 8 BL series I’m currently following. I need a cold shower myself after each episode. It’s a shallow reason to watch, I know.
So I guess they are going to not leave well enough alone and hint that there is another couple. Which means I'm actually going to have to pay attention to the identities of people who aren't Yin and War. I guess its Ray and whatshisname exchanging glances. Or its possible that Ray just spilled the beans about the song to whatshisname. I mean, Best did tell Ray that he can trust him with secrets, so it would be only fitting if Ray leaked the secret.
Subs were off this episode a bit. Nothing major, but it would have been nice to know what Dew wrote back to Best. Sound mixing levels were off when Dew came to listen to Best.
Lordy. I don't know what to make of War's tantrum. I think he might have attended tantrum class with iPlann. Laughed a lot at the advice to Best to start taking care of his skin. Great product placement, but for crying out loud. War's skin is already pristine and the idea that he isn't already the most attractive student in the school already is kind of funny. They should be telling him not to use anything or even bathe just so that the rest of the students stand a chance.
Episode 1 was better than 2, it is a plain drama, I don't care it is slow, but it is slow for nothing, there is…
Well Best got knoced in the head and the first thing he saw was Dew. Its called "imprinting". Its why baby goslings and chickens will believe that they are the species of the first life form they see when they hatch. Bests noggin cracked open and out stepped a gay kid.
For the first time I watched the interview everyone is talking about, and I don't get the outrage. He was clearly…
Hinestly, I really don’t think it’s fair to take it out on Mean for comments that weren’t really all that different from what Plan and Perth were saying before LBC2. That series was such a mess that it’s only selling point was “come see us in our last BL roles…ever…we mean it this time…”. I don’t personally feel that it was anything more than a marketing ploy to give fans reasons to watch a series that backfired. Like everything else their awful management company did. My guess is that their managers thought they had these big stars who were ready to go off to wherever and sign with whatever, and it turned out that only people tied to the BL industry were willing to sign them. Oops.
I don’t blame actors for wanting to leave BL, though. Don’t find it homophobic. BL fans think their niche industry is much bigger than it is and feel entitled to…something.
The pacing is going to be a little slow. Ten hours is a lot of time to fill for what appears to be a single couple BL. I’m skeptical, but I’ll give it a chance. That was a real long slow walk down the train tracks, though.
I like that this is set in 2002. No social media. No phones with cameras. No shipping culture yet so no shipper characters. No long text message convos that no one bothers to sub. No secret photos that will be leaked. Good. The tropes of contemporary life that show up in in every BL are quite passé these days. I’m not saying the good old days were better…just that I’m a bit tired of the tropes.
That said, Mean better have Nut trip and fall into Phob’s arms soon and turn everyone gay or the BL fans are going to wonder if he’s made a BL
For the first time I watched the interview everyone is talking about, and I don't get the outrage. He was clearly…
Yeah. The redshift is something he probably picked up from Andy, who he’s worked with quite a bit. Andy gets so extreme with it that sometimes it looks like someone put a red woolen sock in with the whites.
Ugh. I’m going to end up watching this series just to find out why Nut dropped out and why he had an immediate visceral hate on for Satha. They need to insert an old friend or relatitive character soon to just come up and say “I’m so proud that you’re back in school after (insert exposition here)” or slap him and say “you’ve got some nerve coming back here after (insert exposition here).”
Firstly at the party when they started opening presents and it was taking forever i thought surely they won’t…
I agree with you on Phob. It looks like he's going to try to get a boyfriend next episode. Unfortunately that'll mean that Eak will become jealous and decide that he's into his friend after all and presumably will be willing to have sex with him to not lose him or something. Phob really is better off dating another gay man. Just because Eak is emotionally attached to Phob and wants Phob to continue to do nice things for him does not a fulfiling relationship make. But this is fantasy and the fantasy is that anyone can learn to enjoy being in a same sex relationship if they try hard enough and never have sex. Its kind of like, IDK, some weird cult. But I like the idea of free and single Phob getting up the courage to explore adult relationships that are closer to what he wants out of life than to be stuck with this nice but ultimately childish best friend.
I also don't know why it is that party and club scenes in Thai series just never seem all that fun. Its not just this series. But pretty lame party if you ask me. These are young people acting like they are attending a party in a Church basement set up by middle aged church ladies to give teens a structured and supervised alternative to the temptations of secular life.
Well at least Both and New Year remembered that you’re supposed to kiss the one you love at midnight on New Years Eve. Unfortunately I’m starting to think that this is a bromance and not BL. Lol.
Glad that Simai has come to terms with the fact that no, you shouldn’t continue to try to romantically pursue your half brother. Although it’s time for them to unstick this couple, as someone said below.
Basketball boys I think are just friends. Like, dudes, two gay men have invited you to a party where there’s only boys who are into other boys (save 1). You’re off on a couch in their mansion all alone on NYE declaring how much you mean to each other and you don’t kiss? Like there are fewer places you could be just then where being found smooching will not subject you to harsh judgement or ridicule.
I guess I’m glad that Nampu didn’t take advantage of Copy, as I’m usually opposed to that. But For a change I’m wishing something a little tawdry would happen in this series. I’d even allow sordid-make my skin crawl a bit.
Looking forward to next week where Phob gets to move on.
Yeah, he’s moral junk as a human, but can we take a moment to appreciate how good Tunwah looks in that Henley? I hope that when he gets his final comeuppance he’s conveniently sunbathing on a nude beach. Pitchy Tao is a fine specimen.
I like that granny made the fat mayor with a known heart condition climb the stairs to see her. That’s cold power. That was a weird convo, though. It’s like everyone forgot that IG is also dating Ruk and 3 of the 4 people in the room are aware of that relationship. Wouldn’t IG also end up finding out about Grateen through his mom? Like wouldn’t she at least warn IG that his boyfriend’s father is a violent homophobe and that he needs to be careful? He lives there with Grateen. He really is rather self-absorbed to be thst much out of the loop.
I think it’s Gun singing the song of lonesome sorrow so it was kind of awkward to have Grateen lipsync. Dammit, Nakrob, if Grateen isn’t worth sticking up to your father for, you’ll never meet another who is.
Well, at least Ruk is aware that he’s a coward. Did he expect IG would just take the hint or evaporate? They go to the same school and play football on the same team. He’s not so e random hookup you met in a bar who doesn’t know where you live, kiddo.
Let the music flow in your bones, Kaengsorn. Don’t ever stop jammin’ to the music, babe. Them hips got soul.
For the second couples, we will all cross our fingers for season 2! I personally think they ended this show a…
Yep. They never even bother to explain what Bbomd is melancholy about. He's just apparently sullen until one day, Jin switches food with him during orientation and he's in LUUUVE.
I think one of the problems with this story is that unlike SOTUS, neither of the leads has this moment where they decide to take action. Like Arthit having that conversation with Knot where he decides that he's finally going to ask Singto out. Instead, they hand over all the agency to Aim and she becomes the hero of the story. You can tell that this is shipper fanfic, because the writer worked it out that the relationship would never had materialized without a conspiracy of shippers to make it it happen. JaySong and KhemBall don't end up getting anywhere because there's no straight woman pushing them together and wishing them so. i guess you could say that Jin did do something in the end by packing his bags and flying to Chaing Mai, but its Aim who gets him into the house. Bbomb just passively runs away and hides without telling anyone where he is. Real romantic heros and men of action these are not. Heck, Bbomb doesn't even get a hard on for Jin unless Aim says so. I guess this is what the world would be like if we just handed control of our lives to others who knew what's best for us.
1) Glad the focus is on War. Always felt he was the better actor, so he can pretty much carry things even if Yin is only there to be stared at from afar for most of the series. Actually one of the better BL actors. Although I think he's a bit old to be a high schooler.
2) Basketball to the head aside, this series feels very much more like a US Young-Adult Gay Fiction story than a Thai BL. All that's missing is a "straight-talking heterosexual girl best friend". I think its because like in those novels, Best has an affinity for 1990s rom coms and listening to music on out-dated platforms. Like every gay high school main character in US YA LGBT fictions always watches old movies and listens to records or cassette tapes. I'll laugh if it turns out Best has a dream to leave high school and move to New York and leave his small town behind forever because he's never felt comfortable being there. LOL. My guess is that the straight talking girl best friend is the one in the tutoring session with Dew. Hopefully she'll be a best friend and not a shipper character. Lordy, we don't need more shipper characters making decisions for the MC.
3) Yeah, its only 3 episodes, but that should be long enough to tell the story without much filler. Boy meets boy. Boy writes a song to win his heart. Either the song works and its a comedy or he falls flat on his face and its a tragedy. The end. Hopefully they don't add in a side couple.
So I guess it’s 2016 and the rules are only one kiss per series and they used it up.
From fanfic this story began, and to fanfic it shall return. Seriously, if this series were more popular, I’d be willing to bet Wattpad would be filling up shortly with BallKheam and SongJay stories and missing sex scenes with the MC.
I think the director was trying to relive his SOTUS magic here, but SOTUS now seems incredibly dated and neither of the lead characters were all that interesting. You either liked this lead couple or you were just teased that something was going to happen. Unfortunately what happened has Jack Som Som and Singh Tam, which is not why we watch BL. O.K. Sister got a man, too, but this was kind of like throwing Cherry a bone at the end of SOTUS 2 that had nothing to do with anything at all.
For the life of me, I can’t figure out why koanwah, Turbo, Fourwheels and Kong were cast here. Both KT and FK are popular ships. I guess they wanted the eyeballs of their fans but didn’t want to distract from the MC?
I thought after eps 1 & 2 that there would be a method to the goons Sun needed to defeat each week. Like each should be more powerful than the last. Now it looks like it’s going to be the same goon each week who’ll always almost win and kick Sun’s ass only to be thwarted by bystandrs at the last minute. Sun needs to work on a finishing move. Break this henchmen’s neck so we can move on to worse bad guy.
Lemme at ‘im. Lemme at the bully who dares to harm Grateen. I don’t care if he’s the chief of the village or the emperor of the planet Jupiter. No one harms Grateen.
Ugh. I am not a fan of smearing the cake in the guest of honor's face. We do that in my country at weddings. And at least my colleagues in India used to do that at work birthday parties.
