This is a perfect example of toxic labelling and exclusion. There is no such thing as a difference between BL…
And while things have gotten better in the past decade or so, many of the Yaoi writers for the first 30 years would be horrified and very stridently against being included as a subgenre of LGBTIQ+. Quite a bit of the battle over the definition of the "toxic" label has been resistance on the part of those authors from being used to advance LGBTIQ+ causes, which from their perspective would have been a hijacking.
Here are some interesting things I found...Apparently, the version on wetv is an uncut version. The cut version…
I think the big joke of that conversation wasn't who was auditioning for the Seme or Uke roles. The joke was that no one was concerned about whether they were suitable as actors until Gene brought it up. Then everyone agreed that sexuality doesn't matter, even though until Gene mentioned it, sexuality was all they were using to evaluate the actors. Even when they asked Gene what he thought of Nubsib, the question was whether he thought Nubsib was gay. No one has any concern with how the abilities of the actors will impact the quality of the show. Just whether or not they can sell the actors themselves to audiences.
I saw someone else mention they could also be talking about the writer for 2Moons
Could be, but the shade is definitely being thrown at Mame, since she and the director of this series didn't see eye to eye which led to his separation from Tharn Type. 2 Moons may have been what was referenced at the casting table when they dismissed one actor for being "too gay", then hired a gay actor for being masculine enough to sell, while claiming that sexuality doesn't matter as long as you can act. I think they were throwing shade on Mame's type of BL when Gene's publisher offered to send him Porn as research materials for his new novel and seemed more concerned about getting sex into the novel than anything else.
Unlike others, I barely noticed the sound effects. I think after watching dozens of Thai BLs at this point, I just tune it out. I think it has potential, but its premature to fall for it. Yeah, it makes fun of certain parts of BL that I've come to find rather annoying, and took a nice pot shot at the type of BL that became popular with TharnType and LBC that is indifferent to the distinction between sexual harassment and romantic seduction. But just because it claims to be different in EP 1 doesn't mean that it will be any different in the end.
I do like that it appears to be a single-couple BL as I'm growing tired of the gaysplosion BLs where a group of 3-4 "straight" friends all start shagging once they meet the right boy. Instead I think we are going to get three stories with the same pair: Bad Engineer, the making of Bad Engineer, and the new novel Gene is working on. That might be interesting.
My biggest complaint though is that the show took 3-4 trips to the bathroom in ep 1. They can stop that, please. We know humans need to relieve themselves from time to time. We don't always need to go into the bathroom with them. Its really no big deal, everyone poops.
