I finally figured out the quirky sound effects. If one will take notice of, it is more prevalent when Gene is…
Yep. I think those sounds are mainly Gene’s cry for help when he’s stuck in a situation he finds absurd. Which is almost every situation for him except when he’s having an intense experience with Sib.
Yes, but the god is absent and the guy at the bar was cute enough. I was realy surprised - that was a very non-typical…
Yeah, Tae and Nite are pretty much destined to be together and the rest of the show will waiting for Nite to come back. 2.5 more hours of waiting. If Nite were really trying to find Tae's soulmate in 30 days like he promised, he would have been actually taking Tae to bars himself and using Tinder and Blued to help introduce him to people. Ordinary gay hook up culture would have come about in ep 5.
It helps to be beautiful and have a great body when it comes to how clothing looks on you, but yes, he does seem…
Although he was going to the temple to see the monk, he dressed in an outfit that coordinated with the room. Again. He always does that! (Actually, I do want to call out the production team for this series on that. Even though the boys never wear more than t-shirts, Hawaiian shirts and sneakers, they are always well dressed for the scene they are in.)
That's next episode. So Tae goes blonde and starts picking up guys in bars. Welcome to his gay 20s. Nite may be…
Yeah, I'm probably approaching this too much from a Greek or Norse pagan myth concept, But there's definitely always consequences for gods paying attention to you, and not always good ones, and its mostly not good to be sleeping with them. Sometimes, you get to give birth to a hero/demigod. But mostly you end up giving birth to some kind of monster. Or get turned into one. LOL
That's next episode. So Tae goes blonde and starts picking up guys in bars. Welcome to his gay 20s. Nite may be…
Or it could be that the reason Nite told Tae to wear the amulet is that he knew that it Tae would meet his actual soulmate that way, since the gem is the pathway the guy in the bar uses to open a conversation with him. Not sure. Nite didn't leave any instructions for Tae. Yeah, it could be that Tae is supposed to be chaste until Nite returns and if he sleeps with someone else, Nite can never come back. One of the frustrating aspects of this show for me is that they never spelled out what the stakes were for Nite. Is his forbidden as a god to fall for a mortal, so that's why he went "poof?" Since he's bound by a wish to find Tae's soulmate did he go "poof" because he stopped trying to help Tae and tried to take him for himself? The Monk warned him about getting involved with humans and he shrugged it off that if things got difficult he could always just go home. So I guess that kiss was something difficult. But did he leave or did he get sent back against his will? Got 4 more episodes to find out.
Man I still wish they didn't have Nite/Night be so wooden. He is a freaking god of love, but he has no personality.…
Its not clear that Nite is actually a god of love. I think he's the god of something else and just happens to be trying to help Tae find his soulmate. Tae and Namwhan never ask him any questions. He explains that there are limits to his powers when it comes to love and he's not going to be able to do much more than provide advice. That could be because he's got ethics and forcing people to fall in love doesn't work for him. But its also possible that love is really outside his domain. For all we know, he's the god of wealth or health who is working outside is area of expertise.
did he seriously just boink a random guy from a bar? duuuuuude, your honey is a god! (″ロ゛)
That's next episode. So Tae goes blonde and starts picking up guys in bars. Welcome to his gay 20s. Nite may be a god, but he's not the god of passionate kisses. So while Tae is waiting, might as well enjoy that from others.
I feel like I got to see more from Thailand here than the time I actually traveled to Thailand hahahah
I don't mind that it sometimes feels like a provincial tourist video. I really like them wandering around these lovely gardens and parks. Or the haybales by the pond. Its nice to be out of Bangkok and out of a university campus in a series.
Even when he's depressed, Tae always selects well pressed clothing that fits him well. His T-shirts fit him so well. Never too tight. Never too frumpy. Never wrinkled. No getting depressed and dressing out of the laundry bin for him.
This argument seems a bit odd to me. If we follow this logic, it would be ok to insert a romantic rape situation…
I'm going to not take Gene's side here. His publisher is a very crass individual who is unconcerned about anything other than including lots of sex in novels, not only because "sex sells", but also because she likes the sexy scenes that make her howl. That said, Gene's inability to produce steamy sex that doesn't involve rapeyness is actually his issue, not the issue of the genre or the issue of a pervy publisher. She doesn't give a crap about anything else so he's free to put sex in whatever context he wants. He's drawing on BL novels for his inspiration (they are cluttering his room). His publisher recommends that he watch porn. Another option is for him to draw on direct experience...which I think is what he will be doing.
His first novel, though, is monstrously bad, what little we have seen of it. The one scene we've seen involves a boy grabbing onto another boy, yelling at him for going somewhere without telling him and justifying the "marks" he left on him as showing how much he loves him. GROSSS! RUN AWAY! THIS ISN'T AN ACCEPTABLE CHARACTER FLAW! Lol. That may be a sendup, or it might be his future, when he starts being involved in a same sex courtship. I don't know. There's lots of characters in series who say things in episode 1, like "I've given up on love" or "I hope I never fall in love" and "Marriage isn't for me" who end up in Ep 12 being in love and attending their own wedding. I think it may be premature to praise this show's parody of BL when it could just be another "how I learned to live with abuse, because of love" stories.
I've read this position a few times (from different people) and, while I can't discredit it, I would say that…
Yep. It risks ending up parodying bad BL by...making an even worse BL. Another approach they could have taken to the problem of the proliferation of bad BL productions is to...make a better one, IMHOYMMV.
This series is such a mess. It's superficial to its core and relying on throwing uninformed seemingly cool shade…
Since you seemed to miss the character development of the lead in the first episode, I'll fill you in
External Conflicts: *Gene does not share the values of the people around him *Important people in his life don't listen to him and obstruct him from doing things he wants to do
Internal Conflicts: *Gene is successful at something that he would like to distance himself from. He is receiving acclaim for something he he is not proud of. *Gene would like to be successful because if he is not, people will believe he's living off his parents' money. However, his need for success means that he'll need to do things he'd rather not do. *Gene has a difficult time writing about sex in a romantic context. He would rather not write a romance filled with sexual harassment. While his publisher is putting pressure on him to spice up his work, he's having trouble thinking about spicy sex creatively. Which means his next work is also not likely to be something he can be proud of. *When he acts out the abusive scene from his novel, he likes it a bit too much. His stated values might be in conflict with his inner desires. That is not very stable in the long run.
Character flaw: Gene has a difficult time saying "No"
Thought I'd be helpful here. It would be a pity if you continued to be wrong.
This is a perfect example of toxic labelling and exclusion. There is no such thing as a difference between BL…
And while things have gotten better in the past decade or so, many of the Yaoi writers for the first 30 years would be horrified and very stridently against being included as a subgenre of LGBTIQ+. Quite a bit of the battle over the definition of the "toxic" label has been resistance on the part of those authors from being used to advance LGBTIQ+ causes, which from their perspective would have been a hijacking.
Here are some interesting things I found...Apparently, the version on wetv is an uncut version. The cut version…
I think the big joke of that conversation wasn't who was auditioning for the Seme or Uke roles. The joke was that no one was concerned about whether they were suitable as actors until Gene brought it up. Then everyone agreed that sexuality doesn't matter, even though until Gene mentioned it, sexuality was all they were using to evaluate the actors. Even when they asked Gene what he thought of Nubsib, the question was whether he thought Nubsib was gay. No one has any concern with how the abilities of the actors will impact the quality of the show. Just whether or not they can sell the actors themselves to audiences.
I saw someone else mention they could also be talking about the writer for 2Moons
Could be, but the shade is definitely being thrown at Mame, since she and the director of this series didn't see eye to eye which led to his separation from Tharn Type. 2 Moons may have been what was referenced at the casting table when they dismissed one actor for being "too gay", then hired a gay actor for being masculine enough to sell, while claiming that sexuality doesn't matter as long as you can act. I think they were throwing shade on Mame's type of BL when Gene's publisher offered to send him Porn as research materials for his new novel and seemed more concerned about getting sex into the novel than anything else.
Unlike others, I barely noticed the sound effects. I think after watching dozens of Thai BLs at this point, I just tune it out. I think it has potential, but its premature to fall for it. Yeah, it makes fun of certain parts of BL that I've come to find rather annoying, and took a nice pot shot at the type of BL that became popular with TharnType and LBC that is indifferent to the distinction between sexual harassment and romantic seduction. But just because it claims to be different in EP 1 doesn't mean that it will be any different in the end.
I do like that it appears to be a single-couple BL as I'm growing tired of the gaysplosion BLs where a group of 3-4 "straight" friends all start shagging once they meet the right boy. Instead I think we are going to get three stories with the same pair: Bad Engineer, the making of Bad Engineer, and the new novel Gene is working on. That might be interesting.
My biggest complaint though is that the show took 3-4 trips to the bathroom in ep 1. They can stop that, please. We know humans need to relieve themselves from time to time. We don't always need to go into the bathroom with them. Its really no big deal, everyone poops.
