I've never been more glad after having picked the wrong movie/series I initially wanted to watch. I had seen FMVs of the movie with the same name as this series which is also it's sequel and I got intrigued. So I searched it and found this and after the first episode I was hooked. The only thing upsetting about this series is that it's too short. Now, I have seen other Japanese movies that also have a drama series like "Ani ni Aisaresugite Komattemasu", "Mission of love" & "Kurosaki-kun no Iinari ni Nante Naranai" but by far this is the best prequel. While "Ani ni Aisaresugite Komattemasu" drama's movie is just a condensed version of the whole series (like an FMV), "Mission of love" drama is more like live action video game with it's movie having a better plot like the manga that it's adapted from. "Kurosaki-kun no Iinari ni Nante Naranai" is probably the most similar with the series being a proper prequel to the movie but it only has 2 episodes and the movie feels like it should have been added as the series's 3rd episode instead of releasing it as a separate movie.
"Are You Ready? Hey You Girl!" drama does not even introduce the main FL of the movie. It simply focuses on the ML, his group of friends and their interactions with their classmates. This series is a great foundation for a movie. The chemistry between the ML and his 3 friends is great and very relatable (the ML doesn't ditch his friends to hang out with girls, his friends don't get jealous or treat him differently just because he's popular and they call him out on his sh*t when he gets too full of himself). The episodes also have a deeper underlying lessons embedded in them like true friendship above love, trying even if you know you'll fail, inner beauty above outer appearances, etc. etc.
The actors were also pretty good. The ost was pleasing.
This was a great series to watch and even if they wouldn't have made a movie I would still be satisfied with where this series ended (Although the movie will give me more of their antics so I'm glad).
