i was reading posts on xiaohongshu about how this drama pays so much attention to detail and how the team really did their research on that era. cnetz really appreciate it and there are tons of positive reviews and plot discussions. i hope the word of mouth keeps growing because a great show deserves to be seen.

lotfg did gain her a lot of international fans haha i loved her there too, though I had some issues with the screenwriting of the drama. this drama, on the other hand, currently gets full points from me. she really does keep improving with every drama 🤍

she’s always regarded herself as an ‘actor,’ not a ‘celebrity.’ she gives me the impression that she focuses on her craft, regardless of public perception, and that’s why i started following her work. on top of that, she’s really good at choosing her roles. have you watched that movie where she played a pregnant woman during covid? she was amazing there and even earned a nomination. her first role as an antagonist also earned lots of nominations. i'd love to see her in a campus drama or maybe as a rich heiress but she seems to prefer grittier roles, digging into the dirt and going to war 😩

that’s an epic detail to point out. i was focused on the lighting and shadows haha like how the sun shines on xiaolan’s side while ziyu’s side is dim (last frames on ep 7).

maybe this trope just isn’t for you. i'm actually loving this drama—for everything. i've been praising everyone involved, from the directors and editors to the screenwriters and actors. my housemate and i have found it thrilling and exciting so far and we’ve already caught up with the latest release. we especially like the emotional tone of the family storyline. it’s okay, we all have different preferences. i’m quite picky and this will surprisingly be one of the few i'd give a perfect score, based on the latest episodes. it’s been a while—i've only given this level of high regard to two cdramas so far: scent of time and meet yourself 🤍

modern xiaolan once mentioned the struggle of being an orphan + she also seems to constantly deal with workplace rumors for being a top performer. still, i think modern xiaolan is successful in her own right—she started as a corporate newbie in 2015 and became an executive eligible to sign important contracts by 2026. that takes real skill.

i actually feel bad for this drama because of its poor promotion and wasn’t expecting much but it really exceeded expectations. i hope this continues and it keeps gaining viewers through word of mouth, lots of people are posting good reviews rn in xiaohongshu.

it’s a plot driven drama. give the first episode a try, the first few minutes is already captivating (at least for me).

currently watching! they say it’s a low-budget drama but it really feels like the production team put their heart into it despite the limited budget. the sets and outfits are very meticulous in embodying that era. how should i describe it? the texture feels like a movie, it looks natural and pleasing to watch. there are several bizarre and funny scenes 🤣 and the family moments are really touching 🥹 if the quality remains consistent, i really think this could become my second fave drama of zhou ye.
