every character here is well written but i want to highlight zhou cheng. he is a man with a strong moral compass and a well-rounded personality. when he brought up the diary, he actually confessed and apologized. most male leads these days are written so abnormally that normal actions like this almost seem unusual.

i also just remembered how refreshingly normal this drama is. in the smuggling scene with kang wei and sister bai, most female leads would insist on going with the male lead because it’s “dangerous” but xiaolan actually agreed with zhou cheng and called the police instead lol

27 episodes in and this drama is still going strong. these recent scenes are especially touching. just beautiful đŸ„Č

xia hongxia is not a bad person, she was simply oppressed and misled by the xia family. it warms my heart to see her become enlightened, another woman on the path to a better life 😌

the writers have really done an amazing job preserving so many characters from the original novel and weaving their storylines back together so seamlessly. it also feels like the pacing is finally slowing down a bit, making room for the ending. i really wonder how they’re going to tie together all the foreshadowing they’ve been dropping.

That's exactly why there's an imbalance in C-dramas nowadays. More than 70% of C-dramas have become idol dramas…
it’s kind of sad, right? sometimes i catch myself wondering if dramas are just made for fans to consume at this point. it feels like some production teams don’t really care about quality anymore because they know fans will watch anyway—easy cash.

like, they’re not even trying to respect the audience, and because of that, it’s getting harder and harder to find dramas that are actually this good—ones that feel like a real work of passion and don’t treat viewers like fools. honestly, it would be quite a scene if iqiyi really ended up getting delisted, it kind of feels like they don’t have a clear long-term vision.

he's a morally gray character. he'll be xiaolan's business partner later.
no, afaik. i also think the drama doesn’t really depict him as an antagonist.

I'm reluctant to say goodbye to this series honestly, I'm taking my time really slowly for me to be able to watch…
i honestly didn’t finish any dramas since last year and ended up switching to reality shows instead. but this one? i've already rewatched it from the first episode and even play it in the background while working as i wait for new episodes. i'm surprised because i have a short attention span but i’m actually paying full attention for every new episode, wild. gonna be sad when this ends but i also can’t wait for their happy ending, it's bittersweet đŸ„Č

I feel for Xia Xiaolan, it’s not her fault she time traveled now she is taking on the burden of “is it my…
yea i can’t really blame her for overthinking. i mean, she time-traveled—everything could be connected, not just coincidences. i also feel like she’ll have to return to the modern timeline at some point. they haven’t shown whether her legal issue (the contract problem) was resolved or not before she time-traveled.

"And the finale, everyone went back to that courtyard. Very perfect. Very happy. It was a very happy moment for Xiaolan. Because of her lover, her family, her relatives, her friends. Everyone is with her."

I also didn't pay much attention to her dialogues at first and now the more theories I am reading the more curious…
right, we know it’s a happy ending—they’ll get married and have twins. but not knowing how the drama will get there is what makes it so suspenseful.

I didn't pay attention either. I'm under the impression that everything is just a dream since nothing extraordinary…
it’s zhou ye so i’m not really buying the dream theory. she’s not the type to pick a repetitive script. plus, zxw already spoiled a bit of the finale đŸ€Ł

sometimes i wonder if i'm just overthinking it haha i'm also discussing this with my housemates i watched it with and there are just so many possible scenarios based on the foreshadowing and dialogue

I haven't seen that drama. Do the leads travel between two time slips?
i haven’t seen it yet either but this drama has a completely different concept from 1983. the female lead can travel through time while a song plays on a cassette tape, it’s sci-fi.

Title Dream of Golden Years Spoiler
"I don't think there are actually two timelines. One possibility for her not being able to find her parents when she returned to her hometown of Yuezhou in 1983 is that her parents hadn't started working there yet. Since she wasn't even born then, it's normal for her parents not to be there. When she started finding her memories of the past blurring in 1990, it's because her original self was already three years old, starting to remember things and forming new memories. Therefore, she began experiencing blurring of her old memories. Forgetting where she and her parents went on a trip is because her current self hadn't yet gone on a trip with her parents. Forgetting her income from her first job is because Chen Xiliang was altered. In other words, what she did in Xia Xiaolan's body in 1983 could affect her original self.

Now that Zhou Cheng has bought the alarm clock, it means her parents won't be able to buy it, and her original self won't be able to travel back to 1983. This is why Xia Xiaolan's memories are starting to fade. If this is the setup, it could potentially cause the current Xia Xiaolan to disappear.

The drama series mentions the price right at the beginning, so I think her price is whether she chooses to go back or stay. The price of staying is that she will lose all her memories and completely forget her former self.

Another option is to go back to the future, in which case all memories of 1983 would be erased, meaning she would have to give up everything she did in 1983 and return to the way things were before.

If this is the setup, I'm really curious how the screenwriter will make it a happy ending."

i'm wondering how they'll pull this off if ever. i didn't even pay particular attention to xiaolan's dialogue at the beginning and it might be a hint all along?🍿 or maybe it's not really this complicated đŸ€Ł

another wild theory from drama fans: could the plot of "1983" be similar to "Meet You Again"? In "Meet You Again", the trigger for time travel is a cassette tape, whereas in "1983", it's an alarm clock.

it’s getting unpredictable but I trust them when they say it has a happy ending 🍿

Please don't fight in the comments below about the producers being bankrupt or not. We have nothing to do with…
just came back here after seeing a video of zhou ye confirming she used her own voice in the drama. kinda surprised to see such a fuss lol from what I know, the producers are pretty mysterious. they always keep things under wraps and don’t reveal much until right before their dramas airs. it's the same case here.

Title Dream of Golden Years Spoiler
"Some people feel that everything after Xia Xiaolan's time-travel doesn't hold up to scrutiny, saying she took the top spot in the college entrance exam and indirectly affected Shi Kai's destiny. Let's first look at this yellowed diary—it clearly records Xia Xiaolan's life trajectory in her previous life:

- 2010: Graduated from university, started her first job at Luna, and received her first salary.
- 2016: Became the top salesperson at a foreign trade company.
- 2018: Joined Alloy Investment.
- 2022: Promoted to team leader.

From a workplace newbie to a top salesperson, then to an investment role and a management position, she didn't suddenly become strong after being reborn. She had already been climbing the step-by-step in her previous life, honing her professional skills, planning abilities, and resilience against setbacks.

Then, in this life, from the winter of 1983 to the summer of 1984, while preparing for the college entrance exam, she remembered the math problems from her past life and thought she had a "golden finger." During this time, Liu Fen grew rapidly, and her clothing business flourished.

Being reborn only gave her a chance in a different era. This "golden finger" wasn't that powerful: she even constantly feared that the more she gained, the more she would lose. In every choice, she tried her best to benefit both herself and others, and the foreshadowing in the show is all resolved.

As for the choices made across time and space, these are two different timelines to begin with. Wanting to go back and make herself and the people around her live a little better is only natural.

Even today, her marketing ideas, spirit of mutual aid, and the courage to think and act boldly would allow her to make a name for herself in any era. Xia Xiaolan's confidence has always been built on her own hard work, step by step."

a first in the history of female-centric fiction: the female lead drives a car while the male lead rides a bicycle…
it's so funny how cnetz call zhou cheng "lanfu" = lan's husband. ceo xia is simply domineering.
