Well I don't know about hyeri as I haven't seen any of her dramas but yes hana deserves to get main lead
I actually agree I did think her acting in some of her dramas I've seen were awkward but she did an Amazing Job in Reply me 1988. But we can;t really say anything until we see how her acting goes in the upcoming drama.

I just don't get the whole political plot.Wasn't the king himself who sent his own son to be killed back then?…
Okay so this is hard to explain but I'll just make it simple, I don't know if I'm correct cuz I watched it while it was ongoing. But anyway the king viewed his own son as a competition so he sent him to be killed, he also sad because he regrets it cuz he knows he was blinded by the throne. I hope this doesn't confuse you.
