Title Mr. Queen
if they follow the chinese drama version, the king exactly isnt in love with hwajin... he would have did the same…
If that's the case, I'll probably be ok with that ending.

TBH, most of the 20 episodes dramas i've seen drags at one point or another. What matters is how he last 3-4 episodes goes.

This makes sense, but i'm worried they will kill off bong hwan in the later episodes :((( Like his spirit will disappear.

I'm in trouble... I'm falling for the king and hwa jin after episode 4 :(((( Their love looks so pure...

I know there are 15 more episodes, but I can't help it.

Hopefully the love triangle won't be too long, so we can focus on all the political intrigue more.

Is the KITCHEN scene necessary? YES, definitely! I don't know why some people question the kitchen/cooking scenes…
I love food dramas, so I love the kitchen scene :)))

I don't think the number of Kdrama you have watched would indicate how well you would receive this show. With…
Simple logic.

Theories exist for a show for one of two reasons.

1. Either the show is so good, that the writer created a wonderful world, that people loved and fantasize about. For example, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and etc...

OR

2. The show contained so many plot holes, unexplained scenes, and confusing characterizations, that to make the show more palatable, fans made their own theories and stories. For example, Start Up, TKEM, CITT, and etc...

I will let you decide which one it is then.

Your making some big assumptions here, and i do not think the episode reflects it.

Symbolically, it showed that sailing without a map you could die. Which happened.

Hjp is closest himself to risk. He still trust people, but has become risk adverse.

I don't get these comments. Have none of you ever watched a Korean drama before? The show was great, but very…
I don't think the number of Kdrama you have watched would indicate how well you would receive this show. With your logic, someone who has watched 200 dramas would absolutely love this show, but someone who only watched 1 or two dramas, would dislike this? I don't think the world works like that.

The show divided the audiences regardless of how typical this Kdrama is suppose to be.

The big issue of the show is how the writer decided to give the SML way too many ML characteristic, and then forgetting to give the ML any worthwhile characteristic. By the time the writing realizes that the ML needs some positive characteristics, it has become too late, as the writer has inadvertently created a huge mountain that most audiences needed to climb to make the ML likeable again.

A weak ML, versus a likeable and sympathetic SML, proved to be the show's downfall, as the writer, sacrificed the quality of her writing to enable to ML to shine again.

You hit the nail on the head. The romance angle, which was boring and predictable, encompasses 80% of the show's plot. So even if you wanted to focus on other aspects of the show, it proved difficult with the romance angle being all too present in most of the episodes.

There was not really much to go over people's head, as most of the show's morals are dangerously uncentered, the characters were one dimensional and simple, and the remaining themes of the plot were shallow and half-baked.

I guess there may be some translation intonation that is lost in the phrase “why do you like me?” Perhaps…
For a guy to ask to ask me several times why I like him, it will come to a point I will get annoyed, since the guy is doubting my love for him. If the guy is being insecure, it will eventually reach the point that whenever I talk to a guy he will get jealous, because he is not secure of my love for him. Sometimes, the only time the guy will be secure is if you marry him, and even then, some still are insecure, and won't be satisfied until he control your every move.

SDM and NDS shared many sweet scenes together. Could she not have chosen any one of them?

But like I said, she could have told him, i like you because of big hands, and he would have been ok with it. He was just happy that she loves him.

It's that honeymoon stage feelings tbh, when everyone is on cloud 9.

Here is why I'm convinced there was a plot change. It addresses your point about the cherry blossom. https://twitter.com/Jeonggal_/status/1328583037769101315
The writer showed more than just a petal for foreshadowing, but a lot of it didn't come true. The fates, the symbolism, the use of metaphors, parallelism and etc...

I don't know about changing the endgame or what not, but the writer placed so much literary plot devices, that ended up being more hindrance than help.

The drama showed glimpse of complexity, but with closer inspections, ended up being just a shallow average Kdrama.

Id like to share my thoughts on MLs. There are 2 absolutely different characters, as 2 opposites. Dosan, with…
People like NDS cannot exist without people like HJP.

More than SDM, NDS needs someone like HJP to keep him grounded. The show found a way by using HJP as a security blanket that allowed NDS and SDM to just keep risking and dreaming, and doing things recklessly, while HJP was there to Sandbox them.

Then eventually, once the kiddos learned to fly on their own, they left the nest, and neglects the person who helped keep them safe while they were learning to fly.

In real life, this just doesn't exist, no one is going to selflessly do what HJP did, unless they are your parents.

And so your assertion that only cold critics can relate to HJP is wrong. People who are realistic with the harshness of life, knows that lucks isn't always on their side, and are more mature with regards to risk and rewards, will relate more to HJP.

People who have had an easy life, who are in their own safe bubble, and fill their lives with hope and dream, may relate more with NDS.

I'm not surprised that more people relate to HJP, because in reality, the lucky few who have amazing lives, and have lives that are in safety bubbles are not that many. Not everyone lives in cloud 9 24/7.

The write may have missed this fact. When she wrote the drama, she most likely wanted to encourage youth to dream big and etc... But today's young people are maturing faster, getting hit hard by life much earlier, and getting more pragmatic earlier as well. And it shows with how the show is being received.

Just like SDM says, "I want facts, not a life willed with hopes and dream that will never come". The Kdrama are tired of these unrealistic journeys of youthful achievement, they crave for a KDrama that whos the harshness of the journey, so the end reward will feel more satisfying. Something PHR failed to show. The journey of NDS and SST to their end game was ridiculously paved with diamonds and gold.

Being a dreamer is a luxury most of us cannot afford. Although to dream is free, not everyone can afford to dream for "Practice". Dreaming big is not something you can do at a whim, normally dreams require great sacrifice. And not everyone has Sandboxes waiting for us when we fail to be the exception to the rule.

For every dreamer that rises to the skies... a hundred other dreamers fall with no one to catch them.

It's a misconception that NDS is a dreamer and that HJP isn't. The big difference is, HJP doesn't have anyone to Sandbox him. He has no GF/wife, he has no family, he has no pillars of support. But instead, people depend on him at his work, he is anchored by his sense of responsibility, if he attempts to sail without a map, he will get burned, and people will crash into him, he has to answer to clients/investors. In effect he has a responsibility to be a sandbox for people so they can follow their dreams, but he never has someone to sandbox for him to follow his dream. And whenever he musters up the courage to do so, the harshness of fate reminds him of his place in life, and he stops himself.

NDS has no responsibilities. He goes wherever the winds blows him, if he wants to quit work, or just leave the country, he can, his friends will support him, SDM will support him, his parents will support him. Does he need to keep close to his family? No, because his parents will love him regardless of how he acts, because he is their son. He has multiple security blankets, so he can dream as big as he wants without fear of failing. And just like HJP says, if you have a plan B, then the fear of failing is less, and with the fear being mitigated, you are able to dream bigger and aim higher.

Does this mean HJP doesn't want to dream big? No, it only means that fate has given him a life, where he cannot afford to.

Which is why I find HJP more relatable. Because like him, I cannot afford to dream big, as I have no one to catch me if I fall.

I hope for NJH sake, he chooses a drama where his character is stronger, and people stop getting SLS in his drama. This is twice now isn't it?

Your basing end game on a petal falling on a head? I've seen drama where the girl kiss another guy first, but ends up with the other guy...

I could also argue, HJP was shown first, so according to KDrama formula, HJP should be main lead then.

I want to see a stronger argument of why NDS deserve to be endgame, rather then were a petal fell on?

Regardless of whether you like DS or JP more, the writer never set JP up. Episode 1: cherry blossom petal flies…
There were a lot of reasons why NDS is endgame. Unfortunately most of those reason had to do with marketing and promotional material. And even though the writer bias was evident since Ep. 2 or 3, the writer also left a lot of crumbs to give people hope for the more likeable HJP. And she proceeded to do this for almost the entirety of the show, which made no sense. A lot of people theorized, maybe this would be a 1988 type of twist, since there was rumor the writer added a plot twist and no one will expect it.

But ep. 16 comes, and no plot twist. People feel cheated that the complexities they thought they saw with the script, turned out to be nothing more than ghost. What they though, could potentially be a out of nowhere twist, just became you average rom-com.

JP represents a safe type of love, where you feel comfortable being with him There is not as big a variance between the highs and lows.

NDS represents a risky type of love, where you can feel like your on top of the world one day, and feel like your down in the dumps the following day. Higher highs, but also lower lows. So when the relationship is happy, it's amazing, but when the relationship hits a snag, it's going to hit hard.

HJP and NDS represents different type of support. Whereas NDS always just gives SDM the fish. HJP opts to teach SDM on how to fish instead.

I wouldn't compare NDS to SDM's Dad, let's not forget, he sailed without a map, and without Grandma's help, he would have died. He was already bankrupt at one point, unless we forget this. If anything, the show portrays that you can sail without a map, only if you have someone like HJP and Halmoni as your sandbox, otherwise don't do it.

Yes the main couple end up together. And yes, love triangle is up until ep. 15ish.
That really depends on you. If you like Suzy and NJH, and want to see their interactions, you may enjoy it.

If you expect high quality writing, and realistic portrayals, it's a mixed bag.

Why not watch the first few episodes and see what you feel. Ep. 1 is really good.

I haven't seen this writer's other works. But maybe she just did not write this one that well. All those symbolism,…
I remember those days :)

The most popular trend during my TKEM comment days, were multiple people using Flixpatrol to defend that TKEM is the most popular KDrama in all of history. And the only Kdrama to be top 20 in the world.

Of course I punctured a bubble into that theory with actual facts, Which of course was ignored anyway. I went to so much research too, using actual Netflix financial statements too. LOL!
