They are review bombing "Our Youth" too. This is not just about RL. Toxic Thai bl fans need to be called out.…
AH! Well, firstly, welcome! And if you didn't know, now you know. DO NOT TAKE MDL RATINGS SERIOUSLY. Majority of dramas here are rated according to fandom size/haterage/craziness.
On MDL, you're better off taking in the rating with a healthy dose of skepticism, then carefully and objectively skimming comments and non-spoiler reviews before deciding to watch a show while keeping your expectations in check (especially if the rating is high and the show has popular actors). If, in the comments, you see most people talking about how much they love the actors and nothing much else, that's the first sign you may be disappointed with the show. After all that, throw in a pinch of your gut instinct and press play, or don't.
But don't expect to look at ratings here and hit the ground running, most of the time you'll stumble into a dumpster fire or pot hole π
Ya'll I don't remember if this ever came up in the novel because I skimmed it and it's a vague memory, I also don't know if anyone's brought this up here before, but in the series I lowkey think Chengyu and Gangzi were WAITING and HOPING for Yellow Dragon to die. I watched ep 1 again (the snake fight scene) and then considered ep 9 (after the fight) again and looking at those scenes, I don't think Chengyu was bothered about losing the snake fight because of himself (his pride or 'rivalry' with CC), I think he was upset Yellow Dragon survived, and Gangzi too was not celebrating in ep 1 when Yellow Dragon won again. I think these dudes have been waiting for (and in Chengyu's case trying to get) Yellow Dragon to die, so Chi Cheng could move the fuck on π
Author said 'don't read it' just after the show started airing. The show is, according to her, an updated/upgraded version she wants old fans and new people to focus on.
Imo, the novel was not on the level, I skimmed and dropped it, it was like bad fanfiction written by someone very enthusiastic, but with some great ideas, some bad ideas and not a good grasp of how to put it all on 'paper'. lol But there are people who like the novel, so you should probs try it yourself.
Yeah no, actually that tracks, it all sounds about right for an ABO story that should have stayed in fanfiction π the writer created a character that is somehow biologically able to be A and O and can fuck anyone it chooses, AND managed to make up a new type of A that gets pregnant, thereby defeating the original purpose of ABO in one fell swoop while still getting a dude pregnant π That's how the genre goes πππ enjoy!
No such thing as bromance in Chinese censored BLs. That's a legally forced term, they legally had no choice but…
Bromance is non platonic friendship, censored is censored homosexual themes due to homophobic laws, these are not the same.
These shows were legally forced to put the non-platonic relationship into the subtext of the show or be shelved like so many shows were/are. The producers masterfully adapted romance and emotion and depicted love without overt statements and confessions and physical contact. Respect the producers hard work, not China's bullshit no-homo label forced down the producers throats.
I always say" if China really could produce bls freely with no restrictions,no other country, would stand a chance.…
Yeah, everyone connects differently for sure and in that same vein, I think 'depth' is relative to what each person is looking for. I certainly haven't ever found depth in a JP BL, I came close on one occasion, but that JP BL dropped the ball at the end unfortunately. The other 2 JP BLs that made my recc list, were chosen for their overall good execution and enjoyability, but I was never invested in the characters.

From your JP list: Our Youth [dropped]
The Novelist [it wasn't as good as MI, didn't bother to rate it)
Mood Indigo [Completed, it was good]
Love Is Better The Second Time Around [dropped]
My Beautiful Man [I watched s01 and s02, it was okay, took a while to get through, never watched My Beautiful Man because I wasn't interested in following up]
When It Rains, It Pours [This one was a gem, only the 2nd JP BL to ever make my BL recc list]
At 25:00, in Akasaka [dropped]
Cosmetic Playlover [completed, it was okay for a one time watch]
Happy of the End [dropped]
Candy Color Paradox [first time hearing of this one tbh]
JP BLs just aren't my vibe, I generally don't like the aesthetics of the casting looks wise, and also their cinematography choices, also their stories are very like their manga/anime, they're very repetitive and heavy handed on certain tropes and while a few are outstanding, the majority are a dime a dozen and usually not done in an engaging way (for me). Most of the time I get bored. lol
Enigma, huh? Yet another ABO wildcard. Never heard of that before πBut writers can basically wing it in ABO, there are very few rules and the amount of twists writers come up, to change the ways A/B/O characters can fuck each other and how, are endless (and exhaustive) lol I have seen ABO fics where the first chapter is just WORLD BUILDING, like thousands of words just telling the reader about 'their' ABO universe and how it differs from the standard ABO. I generally don't get past the first chapter of those. It's all good though, for those who are into it, good luck and enjoy.
And for those of us who watched Junior, you KNOW you we all cringed watching it too, but we were meant to cringe and laugh because it was a comedy bro ππππ
9.0?π₯ Guys is this the highest rated bl on mdl of all time? I know untamed has 9 too,but it's a bromance?
No such thing as bromance in Chinese censored BLs. That's a legally forced term, they legally had no choice but to call it that, bromance is it's OWN genre and should be respected as such. Chinese Cn BLs are censored, not platonic. The Untamed is gay.

Read the convo thread and chuckled when I got here, because it just goes to show it's all about different taste in the end, Japan is at the bottom of the list for me. lol In terms of acting/story/quality/casting, it's China, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and then Japan for me. It is what it is, different strokes.
The power of china , if only they released all censored bl/ bromance they could easily lead BL world. The three…
Uncensored or censored, I reckon TGCF (Eternal Faith) would take the top spot, but Immortality would be a hell of a contender. And JitD could have been a fair run for 4th spot on this list if the producers didn't chicken out so hardπ
"Some things just donβt translate well to live action." ~~ I'M SAYING. lol Honestly even in fanfiction I drop 9/10 abo stories because they're really just too...extra. The whole genre is excessive vaguely bestial fantasy and yep, THAT is better left in the fanfiction archives π if I have to hear actor's voices saying shit like "I'm having my heat." or "Oh my Alpha, knot me" or have them talking about seasonal mating and heat suppressants I'ma cringe myself to death πππ
