not to sound cynical, but i also noticed that earlier on with korean BL series, they tended to have the same (relatively new) actors over and over again (for ex: Jang Euisoo who was in Where Your Eyes Linger, Mr. Heart, and My Sweet Dear, or Han Se Jin who was in Nobleman Ryu's Wedding, and Mr. Heart). It seemed like there weren't really many actors at all who were willing to act in BL/queer media, and that the production teams for these series were seriously struggling to find other actors. Which was then a relief when we were blessed with shows like Light On Me, and To My Star (especially the latter, that features more experienced and skilled actors). So my assumption is that, due to either homophobia or the fear of potential backlash (not to mention how strict some agencies are), then they're now letting some lesser known idols star in BLs to, as you mentioned, help promote the group, or then to let the idols kickstart a career in acting (since so far, the series are really short and the characters are fairly simple).

Yeah i definitely agree with you on that one, it’s a shame that screenwriters will often feel the need to do this in fear of making their show too “boring”, without realising that we also just need time with the characters genuinely interacting without needing for there to be a conflict at the centre of them every time.

True haha only difference is that with Minato’s laundromat, it somewhat made sense for there to be such a back and forth because of the issue with the age gap, but it’s true that they dragged it too much near the end

I'm actually so pleased with the development we got in episode 3. I was ready to feel frustrated until the last episode, because i thought they'd drag the vague conflict between the two leads until the very end before giving us a flashback and actually making them talk. But it's so great that that already happened now, and so early.

I'm hoping, going forward, that the two leads will communicate more like this and get closer to each other naturally, instead of insisting too much on the push-pull trope which can make a narrative feel repetitive and gives the impression to the viewers that no progress is made. So i'm very curious to see where it goes from here on. Ofc, Kabekoji still needs to process his own feelings of inferiority and low self-esteem too for their connection to truly bloom.

I must say, I find Issei's character in particular to be heart-warming, and i love his perspective on life and how he perceives people. They're small things but quite eye-opening. Im thinking of the particular moment when his bandmate was yelling at him because it seemed like he wasnt taking their rehearsals seriously. Instead of feeling irritation, or reacting angrily despite how we could perceive the bandmate as overly "fussy" and harsh, Issei sees it as a strength. That it reflects how serious his bandmate is about becoming an idol, his passion for it, and subsequent want for other people to take his dream seriously as well.

So instead of lashing out, Issei feels and expresses gratitude toward his bandmate, and it makes me want to aspire to be as thoughtful and observant as Issei is. Seeing even the most negative events in a positive manner, without discarding or dismissing the weight of the matter either (like toxic positivity), but rather shedding an empathetic (and arguably more introspective) light on the person and conflict/event.

Thank you for the kind response, and for the acknowledgement of my take, I appreciate it <3 I really hope so too, I think both Sky and Prapai’s changes in character will be important in showing us the difference between Prapai and Sky’s ex, whilst also underlining healthy communication and care (we shall see). I think I look forward to seeing Prapai being more sensible and serious, whilst hoping Sky will be more open to vulnerability and affection, which will ideally alter their current ‘chase/hunt’ dynamic (which is a bit iffy).

It’s because it’s doing a lot of good (refreshingly showing us good communication between Payu and Rain, maturity etc) and a lot of bad (romanticising coercion for the second couple or at the very least, being unclear/vague about boundaries). So it’s flawed but intriguing.

Ngl i feel similarly because they’re going about their dynamic the wrong way I feel, like so many small details could have made the second part substantially better. Particularly in the scene when Prapai asks for sex in return for saving him, which could have been slightly altered by just having Sky suggest it first because he’s used to people only helping out if they have ulterior motives, then that would have fit in with his story arc a lot better as well, and would have given less of an impression that Sky was coerced into sex, which he basically was, and it’s problematic.


At the same time, just wanted to quickly add, I look forward to Sky unpacking his trauma and seeing Prapai understand him. It’s something that isn’t shown that often in BL, so I hope they pull off the rest of the series well. If not, I’ll just focus on PayuRain.

I just blame the inconsistent writing, because if we look at the characters’ intentions, we know there’s more to it. We know, for instance, that Rain probably trusted Prapai mostly because he is Payu’s friend (and wouldn’t have let him in otherwise if he was a stranger), and I assume that Rain also senses that Prapai is sincere, whilst Sky is lonely. Still makes the scenes questionable but it’s difficult to say that Rain is a bad friend either, because I feel that he wants what he assumes to be the best for Sky. As in, to find someone who will truly be there for him, which has become increasingly difficult for Sky because he’s put up such strong walls to guard himself from any potential pain, and therefore persistently pushes others away. Rain is sensing that Prapai could heal him, so he let’s him nurse Sky on the condition that he doesn’t take advantage of him. What are your thoughts on this take?

Yes I’d agree with this, although I wish the writing was better at expressing these things and being clearer in general about boundaries (vs teasing, for example). One other thing to mention is that if Prapai was actually a stranger, it’s true that Rain’s actions would have been inconsiderate, but given that Prapai is Payu’s friend, it makes sense that Rain would trust him enough to take care of Sky in those circumstances. Especially because, clearly, Rain isn’t completely clueless either and gets Prapai to promise him to not make an advance on Sky (knowing that P has feelings for S).

Pretty much summed it up, tho it’s definitely closer to being like another unforgotten night, just with better cinematography

had the exact same thoughts and what bothers me the most is how much they drag the scenes to death and then even re-use footage we’ve already seen at the end just to make the episode last longer… it’s a shame because the cinematography is beautiful as you mentioned, and the introduction is quite compelling as well with the legend of the four mythical creatures, but it just doesn’t deliver otherwise. Not to mention that the scenes they drag out the most are the most dull ones (the interview scenes or the comedic scenes) but then the scenes where the leads are together, just the two of them, are oddly shortened, and almost non-existent for now (excluding the bed scene)
