You're not wrong, physical appearance plays a big role. Isn't that the case for female leads too, though? I've…
I don't think evil SFL characters who look beautiful get any love at all, not in c-dramaland for sure. Maybe in the western dramas where predominantly male users lurk.

Just for fun, imagine if a less handsome actor were cast as Tian Ming. The hate he’s been getting would multiply…
I made this point a few days ago. Absolutely agree with you.

Title The Blossoming Love Spoiler
Yan and Qingyang returning to the palace and dying to defend it was truly tragic. Hopefully in this life, they…
"And we are back to the current timeline! Yay! It is great that MXL figured out how to cleanse DL ZM by seizing the BOF for a while. Invading a person's internal consciousness like this supposedly hurts a lot in xianxias, right? Good! Suffer more, TM!"

Well, about that, ep 38 trailer reveals that this is also a set up by TM to kill Dark ZM.

Well, I'm a man. So the actor's charm ain't working for me.

Nah, I can somewhat get behind NXY, but BOF is out and out hateful. No amount of self-sacrifice he does for COP does not excuse what he did to ZM -- A very good man who just wants good for the world. Forget the FL, forget the ML, forget the story, just that person, ZM, he does not deserve that, and BOF can never be forgiven in my eyes.
I have no "pity" for him, and I don't find him "interesting", or "complex". He's not. He's just plain hateful.

I actually like watching MXL more than Pearl. MXL was so badass and straightforward. I miss her character.
Same!

I also feel the Pearl is too innocent, like a new born fawn, and the first person she saw, she was imprinted on him. Makes me wonder, if it were someone else other than ZM, would she also imprint on that person and fall in love with them?
(Note: I haven't watched 32 and 33, so I don't know what happened in the latest episodes, this is based on what I saw up until 31)

I think, if it was a secondary female character who is breaking up the main couple just because she couldn't handle…
C-dramaland is slowly changing, and there have been quite a few complex second female leads recently. Off the bat, I can remember three --
Wonderland of Love
Lighter and Princess
The Youth Memories (I just binge watched this drama two days ago, and it is the main driving force for me bring this issue to attention).

"I still don’t think this is directly relevant to my comment, but thanks for sharing your perspective :D I mean, should I start hating on him just to make it "fair" to all the second FMLs out there getting hate? Personally, that's not a mindset I’d want to push for myself.

We’re talking about a drama here, but even in real life, I’d try to avoid unnecessary hate. There’s already enough of it in the world, right? 😅"

I was just making a funny observation, lol. I don't think hate is needed for any fictional character. Sorry if you misunderstood my original comment, I thought the emoji at the end would indicate that I was being a bit sarcastic while also pointing out the double standard.

"As for the SML, I actually haven’t seen much support for him. Sure, people pity him, but actual support? Not so much. Pitying him isn’t the same as supporting him. I probably sound like a broken record, but I don’t condone his actions, I just pity him."

Honestly, "pity" or "support" doesn't matter when, if the genders were reversed, SFLs are getting neither lol. That is the point I'm trying to make. Pity the SMLs, but please, someone pity the SFLs too.

"So, while your point about double standards is valid in general. Where does it correlate to my comment? 😅"

It does in the sense we only see people pitying SMLs even though they are actively trying to break up the main couple and do some evil shit in the process. Place a SFL in the same situation, suddenly, there's no one calling her a complex character that is in need of pity.

"Tho I do agree, fml 2nd leads often face disproportionate backlash and that’s unfair. But does that mean we should pile more hate just to even the scales?"

SFLs face far greater backlash. There are at least quite a lot of people supporting the SML here (in fact, I would say, more people support the SML than they hate him), and on many other drama pages too. You won't see any support if the gender of the second lead was reversed and the point of their affection was towards the ML instead of the FL.

So many hate comments about TM... Meanwhile, I can’t help but feel sorry for him 😅 If the story had been…
I think, if it was a secondary female character who is breaking up the main couple just because she couldn't handle being lonely with the ML gone from her life, a lot more people would be mad at her character.

Whatever hate you are seeing against the SML here, multiply it by 10, that's how worse it would have been if it was a SFL trying to break up the main couple. So, yeah, I think there should be more people hating SML's actions here. No double standards allowed. 😜

It's all relative. Generally speaking, Chinese citizens are tougher on themselves and the products and accomplishments…
I seem to see a pattern in your responses here. When you seem to have no comeback on the main topic, you shift to others so you can get your "gotcha" moment.

First with FIYS douban ratings, you seamlessly shifted the topic to my rating of FIYS on MDL.
Then you shifted to the "originality" of my responses.

I don't think you want to 'gracefully exit', you just want to be the one to comment last. And I will help you with that, I'm no longer going to respond to your replies on this thread of conversation (feel free to get your last comment in after this). Hopefully, if we were to meet on another thread of conversation, we will have a much healthier exchange.

'Decent' as in your 4%, or my 60%?

I like to give back what I get, especially in hypocritical cases. A habit of mine, can't help it.

A bizarre exchange, indeed.

Let's round back up, you said FIYS got bad ratings because of so and so reason, and I replied with my observations that the main reason was another. In your response -- and might I add you seem to be the one 'triggered' here? I'm not sure, we cannot judge the tone of someone in text, which you seem to be doing here by accusing me of being the triggered one here, which I am not -- you said "One reason doesn't necessarily preclude the other." Uhh, no, because we were discussing the main reason it got so badly rated (at least I am). Yes, there are many reasons a show gets a bad rating, and such is the case for FIYS, too. But the main reason was "plagiarism". So, I reiterated that and shared my views on FIYS, calling it 'decent'. And here comes you 'accusing' (again, I'm assuming you are accusing me, I cannot judge by the text like you do) me of rating a 'decent' FIYS 10. So, I had to respond with my statistics that I usually rate 'almost' every drama 10. This is true, but you had to take a jibe at it, 'accusing' that I rated a 'decent' number of dramas below 10. I just counted, 4 out of the 97 dramas I rated. I think your definition of 'decent' and my definition of 'decent' are poles apart. In my view, a 'decent' drama gets at least a 6 out of 10 rating (I personally rate them a 10 because I'm generous, you were right about this one), which is 60%. Your view of 'decent' seems to be valuing at a mere 4% (considering the 4/97)? So, I had to point that out.

Also, I did not 'accuse' you of anything. I asked a question because it felt like you missed my 'almost' remark, cause 'almost' totally checks out in the context of 4/97, 'decent' definitely does not, at least for me.

Now, I also don't know or care why you were 'triggered' by my replies to you, but I will also be gracefully exiting this 'bizarre' exchange.
