Another factor could be that younger female audiences may struggle to self insert into stories where the female lead is older, which might be affecting the show’s appeal as well.

I take back my earlier comment about Love Beyond the Grave. After watching more content, I think it could actually be really good especially the production value, with the costumes looking incredible. The trailer was only average, but I’ve heard that the filter used in it won’t be present in the actual drama. Hopefully Arthur;s character will have many badass action scenes like Ever Night

After watching the short clips released by the drama team on Douyin, it’s clear that both the female and male leads have plenty of powerful, badass moments. They truly feel like two of the strongest characters in their world. Unlike many dramas that just tell you how strong a character is or list their past achievements, this one actually shows what makes them powerful and formidable.

Main leads can't change anything. That's why I said production team and scriptwriter are way more important. Also I noticed fantasy/xianxia dramas are not doing that well for some time and also it's aimed at very younger audience so a younger fl will be more relatable for the targeted audience. Reminds me of yang mi fox matchmaker drama

Looks very generic not so high budget pre Covid fantasy type of drama to me. I don't see any hook in the trailer to get people excited
