Finally started this. O Yun Jin is absolutely despicable! I am hooked!

Just saw the trailer, and had to come back here to make sure they were talking about the same movie. ParkChan Wook directed Oldboy. This movie is a thriller. I'm pretty confident you can assume Son Ye Jin is not just playing a "supportive wife" role!

It's understandable that you can't feel a connection. It is definitely slow moving with a lot of different plot lines flooding the first 2 eps.
Though I do think you're being gracious to the other negative commenters. Most are coming across as hate without thought... At least you're trying to figure it out. Thanks for engaging without being antagonistic. I love it when people see things from a different perspective to me, and can actually discuss it without being a troll!

In typical Family Drama style, it's an ensemble caat, rather than having a central couple. So there's multiple plotlines rather than a single distinct storyline. If you stick it out, these types of dramas can be IMMENSELY satisfying (if done well) with the growth of multiple characters and the resolution of many different plotlines, rather than just one.

I somewhat agree with your comment about the tone, up until your ...american style... and then I completely disagree. This has a strongly beating heart to me. I'm expecting it to be a slow build, of character growth, for many different characters and their plot lines. In the style of Old School South Korean Family Dramas.

It's a complex family drama. The romance is really secondary to that, but it is very sweet. Ignore all the hate comments. The cast is phenomenal and there's a lot of different plots running at once.

I agree! For me, the character Patrick is much more attractive than Li Xian Hong! But for Han Rong, I think it's definitely showing a great example of how you can't help who you're attracted to!

I'm bracing myself to be challenged by this drama: Ep 1 Chen Hanrong narrates: Lovers fall in love with the idea of love. They don’t fall in love with each other...are we truly in love?

Just a heads up to anyone coming here, to decide whether or not to watch. It's a FAMILY DRAMA with an ensemble cast. Don't watch if you're only looking for a LSK LDW standard, idol style RomCom. BUT if you want to watch an immensely talented ensemble cast, portray a family dramedy, from the perpheries of SK society, this is WELL WORTH IT.

It's funny to me that so many comments are decrying 'unrealistic' because of the lack of guns. It really reeks of US-defaultism. Shoot-outs and gun violence are RARE in MOST of the world.
In my region, guns definitely exist, and do get into the hands of criminals. But it's not common. Unfortunately it would more likely be "...bringing a knife to a machete fight". Gun, not so much.

Half way through ep 1 and trawling her to find out how much I need to prepare myself for Kim Kyung Nam's exit, after seeing he's only listed as a guest role. DAMMIT WHYYYYYY!

Would make it so much MORE worth watching!

I'm aware it's a poor translation. I think that makes it even worse...to me, that makes it more likely they've chosen that specific euphemism. I figure it's meant to be funny. I just find it pretty tone-deaf and tasteless. So yes, I'm probably taking it too seriously, but suicides due to lonliness...pretty serious.
