This drama is cliched as all heck and the males in the drama are too good looking if there is such a thing. They are like tall strapping Korean and Taiwanese looking males. Even the female lead has had the lateral cantus surgery to make the eyes bigger.
I still think I will watch it as its only 14 episodes. I wonder what the drama airing schedule is. I am in the mood for some light rom com after The Double and ABAY. Even my 4 Kdramas are not light.
So light and trite can sometimes work. The 6 degrees of separation here is too much.
He is dying , he used his forgiveness card before his last breath
Sigh yeah that written chapter was touching.
I am actually waiting for viki to finish till ep 40.5 then going to rewatch ep 31- 41 properly. I was watching quickly to get the gist of the plot but wasn't paying as much attention to the whole episode. Or every episode.
Viki episodes are at ep 34. Did you pay WeTV express package? They are both legal sites. The subtitles itself are…
Sigh. Viki viki. I am grateful for it but yeah its frustrating.
I have made many friends there. One came to Australia to visit me. Another met up with me in Seoul and hung out with me. Others went for concerts together. And there's a group of Korean translators who happen to be Korean who meet up yearly so in that sense I am grateful to viki.
I have been grateful because understanding the language has helped me understand the culture behind the lines. You would understand if you compare what is subbed on Netflix anf WeTV vs what you hear.
Anyway I have to run. I didn't think this drama was that memorable. Its good but average good. However the last 5 episodes and the epilogue bumped it up to a drama I'd recommend just for the epilogue. Cdrama sucks BIG TIME with their endings.
It really did a good job with this one I've also read the translated chapter. I am a very satisfied viewer now.
Viki episodes are at ep 34. Did you pay WeTV express package? They are both legal sites. The subtitles itself are…
Oh. That. Its the staff and they hire.
They don't communicate to the volunteer teams. The last I heard you apply to be a manager and they rotate and pick people even if they are inexperienced. The communication issue is not something new.
They don't hire enough staff to answer the emails from the volunteer teams.
THAT is a massive bugbear. Been like that for years. No one can change it. Some of the volunteers are professionals in their real life but we get treated like kids.
I don't see how this problem can be solved. Someone UP THERE in the corporation is giving orders. Back when it was smaller we knew who everyone was. Some even visited the office.
Its changed. Thats why I am not active anymore and just do my number of subs.
By the way I am obviously not a professional translator but I do speak several languages and I do understand the difficulty of doing simultaneous translations. I do know that 1hr long Korean dramas has about 700- 900 lines. And a single person can't do it. And there is this unwritten rule that if a translated line is correct even though its not HOW you would phrase it; the editor won't correct it.
And prepositions. Oh yeah. That. I forget it sometimes when I am speeding through as people are waiting and only remember to add in during the editing stage. Some subbers speed through subbing what they hear. If you get an arrogant editor or an inexperienced editor they miss it.
So yeah so many technical issues why subs are bad
I would say though that the WeTV subs and the KBS2 subs came preloaded and its not the best. However some drama licenses comes in with the English subs locked by the paid viki staff and it literally can't be changed. It is the license agreement.
Viki episodes are at ep 34. Did you pay WeTV express package? They are both legal sites. The subtitles itself are…
Oh the grateful part? I started Kdramas and didn't know a word of Korean. Viki nd the Korean translators taught me a lot and gave me so much information. That's why I am grateful. I hate illegal streaming sites so I like using a legal site. It also gave me a chance to practice my Mandarin so I became more aware of what was said. It taught me a lot. So being able to watch and being able to discern what was subtitled wrongly anf know the difference? Huge difference.
I don't have WeTV or iQiyi subscriptions. I am also not living where I can access VIU subs. I do have Netflix and I hate their Americanised subs with a passion.
So that's why I like viki because it a sub bugs me that much I had the opportunity to change it so that a drama I loved is done well. Otherwise a little gnat like me is just another person who watches a drama and say " omg why is the subtitle so bad?"
One of my favourite dramas is Reply 1997 you see and I was very happy that I can rewatch it with subtitles that I am happy with. Song lyrics, swearing and all. 180 songs and lotsa lotsa expletives.
Viki episodes are at ep 34. Did you pay WeTV express package? They are both legal sites. The subtitles itself are…
Oh yeah. That.
I presume its not been edited yet if its the latest episode.
However I have also noticed some dramas WeTV and KBS2 have average to wrong subs as well.
I know who you are on MDL
I do know some license have English subs from the content provider and its hard subbed in and you can't edit it.
Then we have personalities involved with editors. Some are just bad and refused to change some lines which are ok but not perfect.
Then there have been licences where certain languages have been banned as in not allowed to be translated.
The old chestnuts about paid professionals? You and me both. Yes they should have paid translators.
Having said that a single paid translator cannot sub it fast enough to get the English subs out fast post episode airing in China or Korea.
If you have done professional translation you would know getting an accurate and yet getting the tone right for a drama is difficult and yes they don't pay for professionals.
I will tell you though that in the past when viki have hired staff translators- their interview criterias must be shocking- they made an utter mess of the subtitles.
I will also tell you as someone who have received the original scripts for some episodes that actors adlib. They don't upload the videos onto viki until it airs in the original country. Then its usually delayed by a few hours. Then it is roughly subtitled but I would admit to seeing uneven quality in the editing. And its usually not within 24hrs especially if its multiple episodes released at once.
Like I said I don't disagree with you but the Rakutem parent company never seems to even consider joring professionals because the volunteer pool is there. I will say VIU is good in the sense that they do hire paid professionals. My pet peeve is actually English translations that translates the gist of the sentences vs what was said. The nuances are lost.
So yeah bad translations are there. However I would comment its bad if the subs were preloaded with the episode and the license states it can't be changed, its newly loaded and not edited and then you have bad editing done.
Too many variable factors. That's why I am not active. My subs are in Hangul these days. Its not even English. So I watch. And if its bad ignore the subs. I go onto viki because I actually like having a smooth flowing video. So I am not bothered as much as you.
Your criticisms are actually what has been said whenever we actually get professional translators and editors comr on as volunteers. We just whine but have to move on as the company is just so big and us tiny individuals are smaller than a gnat to them
Viki episodes are at ep 34. Did you pay WeTV express package? They are both legal sites. The subtitles itself are…
Used to. I am no longer active as much. At least I know the medical drama subs were accurate and we even caught errors by the writers. I don't sub Mandarin dramas these days. Used to. I am over at the Korean drama sites. I used to be an active channel manager there and thats how I knew about the licensing issues as it was evolving at that time and the staff were talking about having to negotiate. I presume its more streamlined now with WeTV dramas appearing regularly. I noticed MangoTV ones do.
However I thank God viki improved my Koreand and Mandarin enough that I don't need subs if I am desperate so thats why I can ignore the bad subs if I need to. I prefer verbatim translations.
I swear I had whiplash from ep 31. Its like a whole different drama. Its like she had a personality transplant…
Well Krish728 fw me the last chapter and the ep 40.5 epilogue.
I am not normally satisfied with most dramas but the chapter and the epilogue finally let me watch a Cdrama ending that satisfied my need to have closure for a love story and a drama.
Viki's subs are a disgrace. The fact they take money for this kind of product is appalling.
Viki episodes are at ep 34. Did you pay WeTV express package? They are both legal sites.
The subtitles itself are fine. Did they translate something wrongly?
The episode release is according to the license they paid for. WeTV has never given parallel release with viki because it is translated into many more languages. What is appalling? Its business. Viki paid. At least its licensed so I am not dependant on getting a WeTV subscription.
I keep seeing comments about episode release. I started Kdramas back when we had to load our own videos onto viki to sub and there were hardly any Cdramas there. And the subtitles on illegal streaming sites were appalling. The video quality was appalling. That was the main reason because I literally could not stand the subtitles.
You have no idea how grateful I am to be able to watch Cdramas there on viki these days without add pop ups.
So yeah swearing is all I hear these days from viewers who watch illegal streaming sites and then complain.
I don't miss those days of trying to dodge and having videos deleted and bad subs. You guys won't know of having thousands of lines of bad machine subs.
Do like me, I know its going to be released late. I either wait or go back later. I am actually going back later to rewatch ep 31-40 with good video quality, good subs and the ability to rewind without the dratted pop ups which happens even with AdBlocker. And oh yeah I don't pay so I don't complain. I still sub to keep my membership alive and I get to watch the Korean and Chinese dramas I like.
Perspective. I still have PTSD from loading and reloading Sungkyunkwan Scandal about 3 times and losing the subtitles. So yeah people complain all the time nowadays; that's why I don't bother even going to see the comments on viki. Its just complaints and complaints about release time.
Talk about she bailed out without any real concrete information or answers. She just ran. OK onto 33 pining and…
I swear I had whiplash from ep 31. Its like a whole different drama. Its like she had a personality transplant and became this mature woman and a business person. The programmer and employee mentality just vanished into thin air.
Su dressed smarter and sharper and I realised he became older.
They didn't change writers halfway did they? Ep 31-41 became one drama which I'd recommend. Ep 1-31 is one where I'd say watch it; its not bad. You can take it or leave it. Episodes 31 onwards though... was logical.
Like I said the tone just changed. Its absolutely bizzare. What a weird production to do that 75% into a drama.
I laughed so much seeing this title and the low rating. I have to check it out.
Lordie Love on a shoestring is rated 7.3. I will peek at it.
The bestie was the lead in something Mr Gu.

Sorry. By the time I went through 7 episodes it was past 3am.

Addit. Crikey mikey that was beautiful. It surpassed the drama. And yeah it had that lovely melancholy feel to it.
The subtitles itself are fine. Did they translate something wrongly?

What was the novel ending like in comparison? Thank you
