Done. Excellent slice of life drama. Beautifully shot, nicely written and I like the characters. They were fleshed out enough and it still managed its story in 18 episodes.
This drama is just aesthetically beautiful. Junhao and Josephine's outfit in their last scene were just strikingly compatible and looked like a photo.
Mai and Le actually got more than I anticipated since she left her company.
Casey's approach to her parents actually blindsided me. Yes you idiotic writers- we don't need to forgive our bad parents. Its a cliche. I am so happy she was able to say it.
However back to the whole sepia tone in the drama? It just made Macau absolutely stunning. I've lazed my summer evenings quite nicely watching this.
Its past midnight now so will rate it later. However this drama certainly told a story.
Episode 15 caught me by surprise. It went from light hearted fun to some serious issues. The acting is very good here from the supporting cast. Good solid acting. I have been so used to lame, inexperienced actors who can't act that having good solid actors caught me by surprise. I was suddenly more invested in the scenes than anticipated. I might even have gotten a bit teary at the whole work ethics scenes.
By the way I like the CGI here. I like it its not so super flashy like some of the other dramas.
Only in ep 1, it gets better after that. But I agreed that I get the spinning spell watching ep1.
Its not done very often. The PD has some impressive credentials because I read his cv online. Its super impressive. Its more impressive than almost 90% of the directors doing Cdramas.
Episode 1 made me dizzy. I've never met a director that literally switches a scene each time the speaker is on screen. Multiple times.
Geez. Couldn't he have panned back?
Long, long ago I actually edited dramas and so I know my timing especially since I sub. The lines were short which means each scene was only seconds long. And the director did it like over 20 times. Ok I exaggerated it might have been more the 15 times mark. This better not continue for the rest of the drama.
LolThey are making 40 episodes of content like side character development in 18 episodes, which is unnecessary…
Well I like the side characters. There is no evil plot lines. Just an extremely well done slice of life drama. I like it. A lot. I am happy its not only the 2 main couple.
Its more the fact that the police team is massive. And they used all the resources for one case. Do you know how…
Which country are you in? I am in Australia and no one makes it to the detective unit first year. You're a probationary constable in the first place.
You're talking a fresh cop post university and to Captain in 5 years. I have no clue which country promotes that fast.
Arrest rate high. Wait... there will not be a high arrest rate. Look at the one case they have been on. I can understand promotion with a high arrest rate but it also means a high crime rate. Routine investigations are done by the beat cops. High arrest rates for crimes yes. Most homicide cases are not that easy. Arrest yes but it they need time to gather evidence.
I've come from another country where the govt do accelerated promotion for the elite but 5 years from Uni to Captain? I'd make sure to ask if anyone in my state or interstate has done that. Even the armed forces officers I know on fast track promotions don't get Captain in 5 years.
So which country promotes police university cops to Captain in 5 years? Wow. It must be nice for them then. You're like a baby with just 5 years on the force.
Perspectives. Things that you guys like or dislike.
I like that nothing is clear cut. That the writer doesn't pretty up reality.
The inmature dad. Or actually both dads. Make it 2 dads and one douchebag dad- that was Casey's. Jia Jia's is like an old dog. Oblivious. Self centred. Set in his routine. Everything must revolve around him. Flirting? I don't think he even knows what it is. I just think he basically thinks he's the best in everything.
I really like the Frank storyline by the way.
And they didn't sugarcoat a long distance romance. You have 2 workaholics. 1 professional sportsperson and 1 who prioritises his quality of life. How is love and fairydust going to solve this issue? Its not and that's precisely why I like it.
Lol. I had to check it out because it reminds me of a romance novel title. Then I find its Dai Gao Zheng.
I sometimes wonder if all his contracts requires shirtless scenes and kissing. Lots of kissing. Yes I know its only the first 1/3 of the drama. The kisses will come.
Can someone tell me honestly why doesn't he get cast in longer dramas? Is his company too small?
I don't get why keep blaming the ML being a unless like how, has any of you been a police officer before or you…
Its more the fact that the police team is massive. And they used all the resources for one case. Do you know how many criminal cases they are in a city that size? There are murder, robberies, drugs, assaults, domestic violence, e- crime besides traffic offences. I do know how many police is needed. I even know how many police is needed per shift in my city. I didn't actually comment much about the police work here actually. I just said that the team is massive for one case. No policeman has the luxury of spending weeks on one case.
You cannot write a drama about a murder case that takes 4 years to solve in a Cdrama. Then it becomes a cold case and that will be a different drama altogether.
We are talking about the writer not even doing proper research about the humans and the normal reactions to trauma and if you want to show proper detective work; then write a bit more proper lines to show how much time it takes to get some results. The way he keeps directing people here, there and everywhere. We have their ages. I mean the lead's ages. You do realise he hadn't gone to the police university until they broke up? Its been less than 10 years. Did you hear his rank? They called him Captain. This is a captain of a big city's criminal unit. Realistically did you think the writer even thought about it? I laughed. Do you think you can get to be a captain of a criminal unit with about 5 years on the force? Never. Which poloce force in the world promotes that fast? And they keep mentioning how rural Li Ruonan's home city is and he kept sending 2 men there. Does the station have no budget limit?
So yes, you can like the drama. No one is criticising people who like it. You are the one ranting at people who made valid comments about the writing. Well, I haven't read all the comments here. I didn't elaborate on my deductions here. I actually finished the drama. I am used to either realistic and too gory police dramas on Cdramas. Or the other end of the spectrum silly police dramas. This falls in between. However if you consider this drama being yet another armed uniform/action Johnny Huang drama- the repercussions were fairly light. Overall though ep 36 and characters resolutions were abrupt and lame. I am unsure but the rating is about right. It can go a bit higher because its watchable but its defintely not a 8.5 drama or anything like that.
Holy cow look at the cast. I hate the idiocy of the weekend dramas but have to watch this.
Man I'm going to suffer. I've rewatched 5 enough more than 5 times so might as well watch this. All the male actors have very good voices and the actress a very high sharp cutting through a crowd voice. They certainly cast it right.
Er she went back to work after being drugged and assaulted. The doctor in the ED just told her to sleep it off. She…
This drama had the most empty alley I've seen in a Cdrama. It also made me question the writer. Which idiot runs into the darkest, most empty alley when walking at night. I actually make sure I walk in the brightest part of the road returning late at night. I actually work her slet of hours. In this day and age, is there any actually any female that dumb?
After writing this I thought I saw a Kdrama with that sort of scene. Where the mother of either the male or female lead withess an attack at night. I stay in a fairly good neighbourhood but happen to take public transport because parking is an issue. I've also walked in fairly empty alleys in various cities in Seoul. Since this is China there is no speed dial on the phone, whistle, pepper spray, brass knuckles? The females would have guns in the US.
So anyway since almost all of Johnny's dramas suffers from bad writing- my expectations have been low. However she is one of the most naive FL I've seen. The writer has been one of the worst writing traumatic scenes and then sweeping it under the carpet. However look at the police procedures- it has also been very bad. So I don't think they have ever written a serious drama before.
I think the main issue is that the fenale character is not complete. She has no childhood memories or friends. 2 girlfriends from uni and only 3 medical/ nursing colleague in the whole hospital. She doesn't socialise with anyone except that BFF from work. She was written as a loner. There is no points in her character you can identify with unless you know someone like her in real life. She is not shown as a genius or popular. She is just THERE as the romance.
This drama is just aesthetically beautiful. Junhao and Josephine's outfit in their last scene were just strikingly compatible and looked like a photo.

I am already on 5 other dramas. See you on the other sites.
Interesting. I'm looking forward to all 4 episodes now.

I've watched till episode 16 and am not bored.
I sometimes wonder if all his contracts requires shirtless scenes and kissing. Lots of kissing. Yes I know its only the first 1/3 of the drama. The kisses will come.

Ep 35 was boring. And is China still in strifee and lack face masks? Did I see the FL put a face mask on her hand? For reusing it.

She was being strangled by Qian Qian's ex in another episode.
I don't think they take PTSD and empathy at all in this drama.
