I watched Brocade Odyssey you know and I dropped it. The vibe and storyteling was totally different. Its not the actress since I've rewatched one of her dramas over 10 times. And there is another where I thought it was superb. It was the writing each time. If the acting is good, the chemistry is there and the writing is great- that's totally it. Then it's the director that will make me drop dramas.
Anyway I did say I will come back post ep 20; I'm off to continue on ebook this morning.
I've made a decision to marathon ep 12-20 once they are out. And binge in 10 episodes at a go. Its bit torturous waiting when the episodes pass so pleasantly. I don't like halting the momentum.
I feel a bit sad though that I can't read the spoilers because this story is one tiny moment after another so the anticipation is essential to the enjoyment.
Sigh. Some dramas needs to be watched in multiple episodes but its tough.
This drama has so much similarities to Brocade oddesy-Fl's Ex being obsessed with her-Fl trying to make a name…
Delivery. The delivery and vibes are different. I actually don't bother comparing it.
The pacing which is led by the director and scriptwriter here is petty smooth. That's why I am enjoying it. The cinematography in this drama is superb. I am usually disappointed in the crowd scenes and the secondary characters. Here the crowd is big enough, the ground dirty enough and the make up is excellent. The one stand out in this drama is that every crowd person and secondary minor character for the single scene or recurring scene has been well casted. Their scenes have been so smooth.
I actually read science fiction and fantasy. I also keep collections by the same authors. I have 20-40 books each by about 5 authors. Then maybe another 5- 15 books by another 30 authors. Do they write that differently? Some don't. And some of their different series have the same themes. Do I enjoy each series? Yes I do. They are similar yet totally different. Its the story specific to the series and time frames. I enioy each story on their own merit.
That's why I don't usually compare actors and stories. However if the story or acting is bad; that's when I usually drop a drama. The directing and camera work plays a huge part in my decisions. Some directors are ponderous and prefer a certain style or lighting. This drama is hitting all the right notes.
Its getting all my tick boxes. What will make me drop it will be the storytelling for this drama. Its only on ep 13 so I will see what happens. One of my KPI is the scene transitions. They are smooth, logical and continues the plot lines. I am more picky than you think. I go through over several hundred books a year. My job requires me to analysis things logically. I literally can't see tbe attraction of comparing. I've seen in the other dramas too.
You like it. Then watch it. If you don't then don't watch. I do it all the time. It doesn't bother me to stop halfway or distresses me about it. Plenty of other dramas to go around.
In this case the costumes and set up alone is enough to make me stay. The directing is playing a huge part. The casting and also chemistry is. Not the main couple but all the friendship pairing. One of my recurring gripes is the bodyguard trope. The bodyguard dynamics is sometimes unequal or too much dominance or obliviousness. The pairing here is healthy. The relationship between the FL and Shengyi is extremely watchable. Again the casting and chemistry is so good.
There is no episode today and google it. Or I did on YouTube and found it.
Yay. Best wrong info EVER. So MDL is wrong? I admit I saw the preview for ep 12 and 13 and didn't like it. The ML plot development so will wait for the viki episodes to air and marathon it. If I have the discipline for it.
He starts with the assumptions that a) no one could be as good as his lost love, b) anyone his parents chose was…
What makes a character is how a person deals with the lemons handed to them.
Just because someone comes from bad circumstances does not excuse their behaviour. That happened to be his instinctive behaviour.
I meet a lot of clients who have experienced domestic violence, childhood sexual abuse, exposed to parents who are alcoholics, drug addiction or have a forensic history/ our speak for jail time. Not all of them end up in this cycle. Some overcome it. I am not a counsellor or anything. I deal with people with these history when they are in crisis not necessarily related to their history. However they sometimes are experiencing DV or an alcoholic binge based on their history or exposures.
I would admit that in modern lingo we would say he would not have developed his coping mechanisms, have a support system, need therapy and needs to be removed from the environment.
If this was NOT a Cdrama these are my comments about him.
He could walk away from the family. Own up to his actions. Bullying and abuse is not an acceptable answer that should be excused.
So no, I have zero empathy, sympathy for the 2ML. Sympathy for his circumstances but unless he walked away; yes I know its a historical drama etc etc and one cannot walk away.
This same argument- circumstances in which he was raised- is also the excuse that parents who practise emotional and physical punishments on their children just because their parents practice it.
These are not direct comparisons but the main point is this. You do not excuse someone who assaulted and did do physical and sexual assault on their upbringing.
What I accept is that unfortunately this would not be considered " wrong " to do towards one's spouse in the society at that time.
I’m confused, but why are we only getting one episode a day on viki! So annoying
Don't you complain to the original platform? Not viki.
It always surprises me on Cdramas that viewers forget its the production companies that sets the schedule.
And it makes business sense that the original broadcasting platform gets first dibs in attracting viewers.
This comment is not meant specifically for you Mstique. I have seen complaints on viki all the time. I don't bother commenting there because some people don't bother learning the reason behind business deals and literally swear and become abusive. Its only a drama and there are hundreds of other offerings online. I am catching up on my ebooks his Monday as I am caught up on this drama, Guardians of the Dafeng and Love Scout. Moonlight Mystique and Blossoming Love is on hold. The ep 8 cliffhanger on Check in Hanyang is apparently frustrating. I think that's enough dramas on my plate hence the ebook.
It's so nice to see people being outraged about FL's experience in this drama. Especially since I didn't think…
Maybe someone should recommend a good healthy relationship drama so it brings things into perspective?
I only commented because my work conditions are bad but people just whine a bit but just accept it. I work for a govt dept that regularly gets into the newspaper. And I've just sat in a few meetings last month about it causing harm to others. However last week I happen to be cc into an email from another colleague whom I don't know. However that email rattled me as it was clearly from somone having a breakdown. I am not the manager dealing with it but I suspect she will be having some stress leave. Or someone quiting. But man that email was bad and sounded desperate.
Maybe read some books or fiction for a month or something.
Even the casual brutality in ep 11 yesterday wasn't normal. Or rather the director and acting was very good. The abuse was there but its not shoved in your face like in the other dramas. That's why it was so scary. The way the scented sachet moment was acted out. I've seen countless scenes where someone's reputation is questioned but the director made it so matter a fact. The acting here is brilliant. Even minor character's here are cast so well.
Even when the drama ends and I forget the plots I might still come back for the Xu Family.
I've never seen such embarrassing younger brother moments. And the mum- gosh I love the mother. The actress is too good. She is expressive yet goes about it so gracefully even though its meant to be hilarious she made it so classy instead of being crass. I really enjoyed ep 28.
The episode was 🦋🦋🦋Her smile is so beautiful, and what makes it even more precious is that she smiles…
I don't think its love. We are all adults here. Its more of awareness of him as a man which seems to surprise her. I am sure she is not even dwelling on the fact she is attracted to him. Yet.
Gosh Lee Joon Hyuk is lethal when he is playing the good guy. I am so used to him being the villain.
I am so happy with this drama. All I do is just smile whenever they are together. That is so totally sappy because if you ve read my comments on other dramas; I am totally acerbic there.
I have to go start on A Poem A Day again but the dynamics were different. I so do like an age appropriate pairing that is more realistic rather than the naive young ingenue of the male or female variety.
Its the execution of the cliched plots. It may be the same but is it well done?I've read thousands of books. There…
Psst. I skipped through ep 1-6. I have been on ep 7 and 8. Its not bad. Can't complain. Blossoming Love is getting angsty so I stopped at ep 16. Guardians of the Dafeng is still going well.
I am starting ep 3 Love Scout.
I did tell you I don't get hung up on watching every episode.
The actors are doing too good a job. The domestic violence part is actually too realistic for me to take. Well acted and realistic; enough for me to pity all the women. We have had women- powered dramas before and its just a once off or they didn't do a hard-core scene. This is really showcasing the powerless of the females. I read science fiction and I don't squirm at blood and gore in real life. Not even with slash ones and all. But the utter casualness by the male characters are just a tad realistic.
If you're not hung up on following every episode I would just wait till ep 20 airs and skip or fast forward merrily. I do it all the time. Lol.
I can't actually recommend any currently airing drama. They are all slightly pretentious. There is one modern drama Begin Again which has sepia toned cinematography and some people didn't like it. However if you watch it in a marathon session its a drama which make me want to sip a margarita and go slow dancing in a tropical night sort of vibe. Don't get so hung up on the story though.
After finishing episode 6, I have to admit this drama still hasn’t hooked me 🥲 While the production quality…
And oh talking about the pacing for the FL's misfortune. If you watch the timing between each incident. The timing. There are little pauses of peace then life hits her again.
That's very good directing and story pacing. I have seen dramas where its wham, wham, wham non- stop. Or great histrionics. The director is going for stoic suffering and moving forward in spite of...
Now that's vision. And why I am still watching. I am appreciating a team who knows how to tell a story.

And I just googled it. Wow. Ok. Will give it a go based on the actors alone. Thanks

So far anyway 😂😂😂
