Stop saying it's a sad ending.

I've officially finished watching and I can surely say this is the novel adaptation that priest deserved.
I was a bit skeptical at the beginning but the characters won me over. Even though the budget is super low (and it shows) they somewhat make up for it with other aspects. A huge thank you for whoever that made this gayer than the novel.

The story is good, but some might find the political sides a bit boring. It does lag sometimes. Somewhat different than the source material but not that drastic of a difference and it definitely helps. The hidden details just make it more interesting.

CG is definitely not the best. Music and bgm are also decent as well. Costumes are so pretty especially the ML's.

I do not have enough words to describe how much I love the main CP. Butterflies everytime they interact. Their relationship is so beautiful. Every episode is just ......chefs kiss*. The side characters are also decent. If you loved CQL you will definitely love this one too.

Even though it has its fair share of heart breaks the ending is happy and satisfying. They become immortals together. There is a short 37th episode & I would suggest everybody to watch that. It's a genuinely happy ending not open or ambiguous. They had to edit it out because we all know how BS Chinese censorship is.

Wallmart SVSSS but Hear me out.

The story os about 90% similar to SVSSS (scum villain) but is it enjoyable? Absolutely.
It's somewhat in the category of 'its soo bad it's good'. The episodes are only less than 5 min, but the set, props, production etc is kinda decent considering the budget.
The redeeming factor is certainly the actors and. I was laughing the whole time and kind of wish there was more. They say there is a second season, hope it's true. Honestly this one is worth watching as it it's only a few minutes and thuroughly entertaining.

Not that good.

I just lost my faith in 'Immortality' because these two dramas have the same director (do hope they prove me wrong).

I am surprised to see all these positive reviews honestly. The main CP is good & that's about it. It was boring most of the time and I had to push myself to watch it for the sake of finishing something I started. I did not feel anything for the characters at all.

From the beginning itself this drama gave me 'Guardian' vibes. Even though the setting and props were good it just somehow looked low in quality. The story is sloppy at most and the execution is not that good.

And don't get me started on the ending, I almost threw my phone across the room.
It's the classic 'bury your gay' trope and we've got enough of that already.

This one is pure Magic

Fair warning if you are here for just a wuxia drama, then you may not like it but if you are here for BL, this is the one.

I watched this around the time it officially released but wanted to write a review after watching other Chinese bl drama adaptations. This won't be a professional review because a lot of people have already done that.

Most people might have seen others gushing about this drama and honestly if I am allowed to, I will definitely rant for hours about this as well. It is not without reason. It has been two years and of all the bl adapted dramas there is, CQL is still the best yet. I lost count on how many times I've re-watched it.

The best thing about this is that the plot and romance go hand in hand. Even if not seen on the BL point of view the plot is still good. If you are new to this the first few episodes will probably confuse you very much, it was for me so I dropped it ( a decision I still regret) and picked it up again.
One of those better budgeted productions, so looks decent. It's not technically amazing or anything but it doesn't matter because you wouldn't be looking at anything else other than the main CP. They are my favorite couple and the ML is one of my most favourite characters. They are just perfect, casting wise and acting wise. They make everything worth it and more.
There is no other annoying, unwanted hetero romantic subplots for the sake of censorship (I am eternally grateful to the makers for that). You can feel exactly what the two leads relationship actually is even if a lot toned down. The other characters are also done well.
The story is almost (95%) similar to the og novel and did complete justice to it. The ending is open and ambiguous, again for censorship sake but not very disappointing.
This was a game changer because it successfully adapted a danmei without loosing its core elements even through censorship.

Watch it for Shen Wei's sleeve garters.

Let me just tell you the most redeeming thing about this drama first- the leads. I only exclusively watch BL or danmei adaptations because, reasons and this is something I would highly recommend.
The story is very very different from the source material which is both good and bad. The priest novel is so complicated especially for people who are not familiar with Chinese mythology. Here they attempted to simplify it but ended up loosing a lot due to sloppy writing.

One of the main characters, Shen Wei is adorable and sweet and very mild mannered while the other, Zhao yunlan is crude, brazen and yet brings in an effortless charm and they are just perfect for each other. A lot toned down obviously but enough present as far as a c-drama is concerned.
The music overall is okay, some might like the OST some might not.

The production value is low and it shows, the cgi, props, set etc are not good. A lot of scenes feel illogical even with its fantacy setting.

The acting is okay-ish, some side character performances were okay while others were just plain cringe. The leads did a pretty decent job especially the actor who played Shen wei.

The thing is despite the negatives the drama is worth watching if you like BLs.

Smarmy (little bitch) lawyer husband X Righteous (simp) PE teacher husband

Came after I saw a very good waist grab video from this show on Instragram, stayed for the ML's creepy smile.

As the title suggests, the main character, Charn-our lawyer is manipulative and ruthless. All he cares about is money and power, or so he says. Even when he is shown in a negative shade and is a huge brat, he is very endearing. He just turned bad to protect his soft insides. Film portrayed him very well. The other lead-Tinn, is a goody two shoes, and is all about justice and doing the right thing. Which should make them the exact opposites, but at their cores, they are both the same. It kind of makes it enemies to lovers, I guess. They are both super smitten by each other, it's adorable. I've liked this pair since 'To sir, with love', as they have good chemistry together. Acting is decent for the mains & okay-ish for the side characters. The mlm-wlw solidarity is strong in this one.

Now that we have the positives out of the way, let me talk about the not so good aspects & oh boy. The direction & editing are just ugh. The production quality is also abysmal.

The story was unique and had the potential to be really good if the screenplay and direction were a bit better. There were a lot of cringe & logic-less scenes that I let pass only because it's a BL, otherwise I would've thrown my phone across the yard. Definitely tests your patience sometimes.
I did not care for the second pair at all, but other side characters like the grandma, charn's friends & his ex (such a simp & I love him for it) were interesting. The thing that makes me most sad is the missed potential. It could've achieved a close to kinnporshe level popularity but sadly the quality was a hindrance.
They get married in the end & not gonna lie, it was very cute.

The bar is in hell huh?

Pretty privilege is real. Can we all stop letting actors pass just because they're good looking. The biggest gripe i have about this series, is that the acting is atrocious. I was yelling at the screen most of the time for the main leads to go back to acting school. The little girl was actually better than most of the adult actors.

The ML is an absolute psycho, but turns into a simp in the latter half (which was nice). Don't get me started on the R*pe, just played off as romance. Zero acknowledgement. The second couple is actually more healthy.

Story is a mess, don't ask for how anything works. Lots of uncles & cousins and brothers & idk who's who. The editing is sloppy, music just cuts off abruptly half way & the dubbing is waaaayyy off (i'm not Chinese but even i could see that)

Stop being non critical of things just because it's a BL. Will you watch this series if it was a hetero love story? Hell no. Only genuine criticism can make things better.

Despite it all, the leads do have good chemistry & the ending is cute. So much potential, but bad execution made this an one time watch.

Could've been better

The story is like an investigative drama but too much emphasis is given on the drama part. Insertion of unwanted romantic subplots really takes away a bit from the story. It's like a typical Jackie Chan movie, good action and comedy, which makes it charming enough.

Editing is shit, scenes just cut off abruptly. Music is decent.

There is a cooking montage every five episodes and they eat something atleast twice every damn episode. It makes you wonder if you're watching TLC instead.

There are three main characters whose roles are equally important. The MC is constantly hungry, eccentric and smart. The other main character (or ML) is a grumpy looking guy who doesn't talk much but when he does it's so soft spoken and soothing. The last one is cunning and ruthless yet has a vulnerable edge to him and perhaps the one who goes through a whole character arc.

Love their little family and the dynamics between all the members. It's a decent watch if you have time to spare.

Not perfect but sooo WORTH IT!

I don't know if everyone knows, but getting this series released was a miracle in itself.
Yeah it has some cringe and also some bad product placement scenes but those don't take away much. All the minor deficiencies are made up by the rest of the show, be it the superb chemistry of the main couple or the excellent cinematography.
I keep seeing people's comments that it's overrated but let me tell you it's not, within good reason. The show is amazing technical wise, the frames don't look soap operaish instead are of great quality, the best in Thai BL I've seen so far. The music is absolutely amazing. The supporting cast pulls their weight and more. Even the clothes, make-up and styling is gorgeous. This is evident especially if you watch the first version (cancelled) of the series.

And of course the highlight is kinn and porshe, it's fireworks whenever they are together. There are some problematic aspects due to an equally or more problematic source material (novel). But the writers of the series have mellowed it down a lot.
It's a different experience for those who are sick and tired of High school or college BLs.
Ps. Not safe for work

I did not like it at all.

Idk what y'all are talking about. Seriously, did we all watch the same show?
The story is a mess y'all. First this Mo Ran guy is in love with this Shi mei chick and then there's another guy called Shizun who's also in love with this Shi mei girl.

These two men are fighting for her, and they are also fighting a bunch of different other stuff like demons, giant skeletons & psycho men etc. This Moron guy also has split personality disorder, where one is a brat, other is normal & the last one is an emo goth, idk.

Honestly, if the two guys (Moron & white clothes dude) just stopped fighting and made out with each other, it would've ended with 3 episodes, (they act like they wanna **** each other anyway).
