They are similar because they both think that they are smart and god's gift to whichever woman they choose (both ewww š¤®).
Liu Chang has no sense of reality and trapped in his own delusions šµāš« that HWF would definitely want him because he wants her. Unfortunately, he himself is a fly trapped in the delusions of the princess (serves him right).
Wang Qing is not deluded but a slick manipulator 𤄠that he can get the upper hand in any situation because he's so good at using other people. Unfortunately, he was used by the Liu's and the princess, became the fall guy with no safety net (serves him right).
For me, Shengyi isn't not choosing Mudan but feels she would be too shameless to burden Mudan with her presence…
It's actually a good sign of how involved the viewers are and also how the writer was able to flesh out her character that viewers can both empathize yet dislike her. This allows people to talk about how victims of abuse can easily fall back into the cycle and unable to break it. It has become a very real discussion that I hope helps others have more empathy on real abuse victims.
Shengyi is a good contrast versus Mudan. Both suffered bad marriages, but have very different world views and…
indeed. not only was her family poor but the men in the family don't value the women at all. sadly, these kinds of family still exist in today's world.
I really loved the trajectory of Mu Dan and Sheng Yi's relationship; how their upbringings defined their characters,…
Mudan grew up loving herself and gaining confidence in herself, while Shengyi/Wuniang grew up to find she is worth nothing especially as a woman her worth was only to be sold off to a husband.
Perhaps if Mudan was not hurt like she did, their sisterhood would've lasted longer. Perhaps slowly Shengyi would've found her self-worth and a better new husband. The break in their sisterhood became final because of Wang Qing and the Liu's and the princess manipulating Shengyi. The damage done to Mudan was too much for Shengyi to return even if a part of her wanted to. The guilt, like a thorn at her side, would eat her esp with Mudan still accepting her.
It will be interesting to see how the cousin's feelings developed since he was out of the picture for 20+ episodes…
I feel like elements of novel-LiXing were added to drama-LiuChang like how novel-LiXing family tried to harm novel-Mudan and telling him it's because he likes her and for the drama, this was more on Liu Chang's side. novel-LiuChang was more underhanded and scheming.
Even though Chun did not stop to explain to SY about the incense's potentially harmful effects around patients,…
Xiao Chun speaks sharply. Mudan already mentioned this to her.
During those times, not accepting a gift meant the gift was lacking or does not show enough sincerity or the giver was considered beneath them but dared to gift them. Since Shengyi was already feeling very insecure, Xiao Chun not accepting the gift felt like a slap. This is not about Shengyi needing to be coddled. During those times, the magnanimous thing to do was for Xiao Chun to accept her gift regardless if she wouldn't use it.
You have to understand that to watch period dramas, you can't look at everything using your modern perspective.
That episode was so difficult to watch but must be watched. So many opinions! I see Sheng Yi as someone who doesnāt…
For me, Shengyi isn't not choosing Mudan but feels she would be too shameless to burden Mudan with her presence once more. As she hates herself so much, she'd rather live in pain away from Mudan. Better the hell she knows than be shameless in paradise.
honestly I have no words left for sheng yi am trying to understand her but I just canāt like she can escape…
Shengyi is a good contrast versus Mudan. Both suffered bad marriages, but have very different world views and love for self. It also showed that the people around an individual can really affect how they see their value as a person. It allows viewers to reflect on this if they are willing to.
the best wife Liu chang could marry would be sheng yi , both him and her will be a happy couple, he will not feel…
he will definitely feel like he's been given damaged goods if he were to marry shengyi and would be abusive to her. how can you wish that on anyone even if you didn't like that she betrayed mudan's trust.
Yeah I feel bad for SY but I also think that Mudan is partly responsible for giving her too much by making her…
I'm so happy with the dialogue tonight showing Mudan didn't really understand Shengyi as much as she thought. The writing is really done well. As much as we are disappointed with how Shengyi is, Mudan also needed to grow by understanding that such differences exist. Women in the end should help each other and learn empathy even in today's world.
Hopefully Shengyi learns to value herself more before the end of her life and then she would be reborn to a family that cherishes her but not spoil her.
Yeah I feel bad for SY but I also think that Mudan is partly responsible for giving her too much by making her…
I feel like Mudan was quite naive in thinking that the things that give her a sense of stability (being self-sufficient and earning money) would also make Shengyi the same sense of stability. This is evident in the things she tell Shengyi before seeing her off to go back to her hometown and when Shengyi opened up about wanting a family. Unfortunately, Mudan is young and even with what she experienced, it does not mean she knew how to pull Shengyi out of her trauma cycle.
Shengyi on the other hand is insecure and was easily played by her ex. Her actions that end up harming Mudan and A'Fu is truly disappointing. Shengyi owes Mudan and A'Fu big time.
Shengyi really needs to learn her lesson and resolve to break the cycle herself. Nobody can do it for her. This is on her. Best thing they can do for her is to send her to another county far from her traumatic past and let her live the life she wants. If she ends up being abused anew... she's a lost cause.
Has anyone read the novel? I found it and Iāve been thumbing through it, and I cannot find any chapter that…
the drama is only following and incorporating certain elements in the novel, but you can read the novel and watch the drama at the same time and not get confused with mixing up the two.
This is exactly what Iāve been saying. She has been doing the same thing once twice thriceā¦. she hasnāt…
When people understand where Shengyi is coming from, it does not mean defending her. Understanding but being disappointed is possible. Understanding her also doesn't mean condoning her actions. But to hate her is too much. She is after all a product of all her traumatic experiences. It takes a very strong resolve to break a traumatic cycle. For that she is lacking. I wouldn't take it against Mudan and A'Fu to sever ties with Shengyi. But as a third person, I would not be quick to discard someone like her.

You can always find other dramas if you're looking for that kind of chemistry in the main characters.
