Yeah, but they arent changing the bl aspect. They are just being quiet about it. That isnt the cas here. You are comparing apples to oranges

But i don't get one thing .... when watching those cdramas(with popular actors) which are censored because of…
The difference is that in China there are literally laws against showing homosexual stuff on tv at the risk of heavy fines or even jail. For eg, the bl Addicted was so hugely popular that the actors (Johnny Huang and Timny Xu) were literally warned against appearing in public together at the risk of being blacklisted from the industry. They are now 2 of the most famous cdrama stars. Same is the case with Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo of Untamed, though not as serious. Even then, the actors and the production team takes the risk to adapt a bl novel and try their best to remain faithful to the source material is a DADT ambiguous way.

That is not the case with SK. They dont have laws against this type of things and for specifically this drama, they initially marketed it as a mainstream bl (the cast is mainstream actors). The actors were fully aware this was a bl when they signed on and the production house has one bl currently airing. It wasnt until the fans of the actors started a backlash that they announced that they were changing the story to remove the gay/bl aspect which is ironic since the story is literally about a highschool kid committing suicide because he was bullied for being gay.

Removing gay aspect from this drama is like making a movie about MLK but removing the "black aspect" and changing his death cause to a heart attack or something because u dont wanna piss off the "majority" audience. If that's the case, just dont adapt a gay novel. There are many other novels about high school violence without the gay aspect.

If the actor is the problem they should cast different ones. Not surprised though, the other guy is Golcha Jaehyun,…
I agree. I dont care why the actor took a role, bl is an untapped genre and there is a LOT of potential for growth, but respect the character. There are lot of other actors/idol who would have been fine with that role without being ashamed of the original material, so they didn't need to cater to cater to someone who isnt even the target audience. I just hate these idols/producers treat us bl fans as easy and cheap/stunt publicity. easy

Title The Trust
She's confused because she's suddenly a man, the powerful Emperor, and has to deal with boring court and incendiary…
No. The harem kinda stops after the Emperor switches to a woman and she becomes an the man because she doesn't like his other wives so she ignores them and they all hate "her" so they insult and abuse the king in her body.

She isnt really relevant to plot but the amoint of tags about "female lead" are scaring me.
I am more worried that they will change this to a straight romance between Chanyoung and Jiyu (who are NOT a couple in the manga) and push Heesu/Seungwon as the best friend secondary couple

i’m just curious, if they’re turning an original webtoon into a drama & are taking out a key part (BL) wouldn’t…
Depends on what rights the author gave away. Some author's reserve a veto rightwhile some give away blanket permission to change. It depends on the IP laws of that country. For eg, in China, unless the author has some industry clout, it's as good as gone from their hands. Which is why u get news about authors distancing themselves from the adaptations.

I am not upset about idol comment lmao. I guess judging by your "18 yrs" we are the probably in same age range. I got into kpop during COVID because of a cover of Gloria Gaynor's I will Survive (this song kept me alive during my worst times) and cover was mind-blowing. Kbls came later.

But yeah, I get what you mean. After Semantic Error success, acting in bls has kinda become a shortcut method to gain new fans without much effort. There is trailer for a new show which literally says "can this become the next Semantic Error" but the actors practically have #NoHomo stamped on their faces during even normal scenes like sitting next to each other.

I am a Goldenness (Golcha fandom) and I clicked only because of Bong Jae Hyun. I didn't even know the controversy until I got to the comments.

But. As a queer 90s kid, who grew up consuming lgbtq+ media since 20yrs ago when "gay" movies where either tragic art films or biographies or indie movie starring "reformed" pornstars and movies like Brokeback Mountain were considered a LANDMARK for gay movies, it grinds my gears that even in 2023, people are still whitewashing queer characters and queerbaiting bl fans.

Look like the plot have something unique so they want adopt it with any cost.
It literally has the same plot as The Dude in me, but gay. There is also another comic where the guy turns into bullied high school GIRL called "Fight like a girl".

Getting soul/switched with someone while trying to save them is a very common trope. So they could have adaptated a non-bl novel with the same plot and it would be just fine. Why touch minority literature just to whitewash it?

Stone me or whatever you want, but AS A GAY PERSON, I don't think that the creators are homophobic just because…
Being gay doesn't give you the blanket right to give a pass what most people INCLUDING OTHER QUEERS think of as homophobia. Just like the other commenters said, if u take a minority literature but take away the "minority" aspect it, you shouldnt have touched the minority literature in the first place.

It's not like the story is special or unique. Without the bl aspect, this is story is extremely similar (if not the same) as the movie Dude inside/within me. They could have adaptated that movie into a modernized drama and it would still be as good. Why specifically touch queer/bl literature just to whitewash it.

They specifically adaptated this bl novel BECAUSE they wanted to reel in the bl fans as well as the fanbase of the original novel, but they also dont wanna upset the homophobic fans of the actors.

There are many laws in China it's not just LGBT, but in South Korea, there are many shows and movies with explicit…
Na eff that. I wamt kisses and hugs too, if they were in the source material. If the sauce was shounen ai (light bl) then I will be satisfied with hard bromance but if it was a sexual yaoi novel, then at least a few kisses are needed.

Heesu has crush on his straight best friend, Chan Young. Chanyoung knows this but he doesn't wanna hurt Heesu so he arranges/introduces him to this other Seungwon who likes Heesu. Seungwon pretends that he has thing for his childhood girl friend to get "advice on how to hit on her", them uses the same tricks.on Heesu to hook him.

I really like this actor and if he's the reason for removing the BL part, then I am very, very sad.
Not necessarily. The actor maybe ~fine~ with a gay/queer role as long it's lip service and not have to actually go through with
it. Plot says that the student committed suicide but his body was taken over by the gangster, so the dead student would be shown as a bullied gay in flashbacks but the gangster is straight and has a female love interest
