Princess Ding really said, "If I have to die, let me die elegantly."
Then she basically went, "Here, take my final dance performance..."💃
She twirls gracefully one last time... and then just drops. 😭The drama really gave her the most dramatic exit possible.

People admire strong women in real life, but when it comes to dramas, they suddenly ask why the female lead isn't falling for the male lead or openly showing all her emotions. That's exactly why I love Shen Xihe. She's a perfect example of feminine strength and stays true to herself instead of changing for romance. I've always loved strong female leads, and Shen Xihe embodies that beautifully.

the unexpected brotherhood between Crown Prince and Prince Changqing though 😩 I thought they will be sworn enemies fighting for our Crown Princess, so seeing them get closer is a delight for my heart 🥹

Huayong's analogy of the non existent beautiful full moon was really nice. He did not like the way his 5th brother clinging to his obsession but he was still his brother nonetheless and he did not want him hurt.
The way he looked at Changqing closely, acting his baby brother and Prince Xin, so used in having a younger brother to protect, instinctively worried about the younger prince, was such a heart warming scene to watch.

Episode 21 has been the best episode so far for me, especially when it comes to the Crown Prince. He had so many hilarious moments, and he's absolutely adorable as a character. Even though he may only have a year left to live, his passion, humor, and determination to enjoy every moment with the FL make him impossible not to love. He's witty, romantic, and full of life despite his circumstances. And let mention the fact that the actor is adorably good looking in this drama.
The FL has softened a bit, but I'm still not sure how the writers are going to redeem the emotional distance they've built into her character. I think if they had given us even a small glimpse into her inner thoughts, or shown that she has warmth and vulnerability as an actual human in private while maintaining her cold exterior it would have been much easier to connect with her emotionally. As it stands, she still lacks the depth and substance that would make me truly root for her as the female lead, especially when she's paired with such a charismatic Crown Prince. As a character, I wonder what did she do in her past life that this life she has such love and devotion from such a man. According to her father, the Crown Prince is looking pale and fragile but he's good looking. In addition to his looks, he is very smart, witty, and a very powerful character. This FL character doesn't have much going on for her to deserve such a counterpart. I can go on forever about her character but no, I don't want to. I also loooove the little interactions between the Crown Prince and his bodyguard, Tian Yuan. Their master-and-guard dynamic is such a joy to watch. The nods, raised eyebrows, winks, and silent understanding between them are comedy gold. I'd love to see more pairings like this in other dramas especially with this two actors.
And then there's the icing on the cake, the second lead couple. I loooooove them too! Fan Sui Qi absolutely shines as Bo Shu Lin. She perfectly captures both the character and the male disguise. Honestly, she's one of the most convincing actresses I've seen in this type of role. Her counterpart, Dong Zi Fan, also looks fantastic as Cui Jin Bai. I can't stop noticing his perfectly straight nose! Beyond that, I really like his character, strong and stubborn, yet also gentle, adaptable, and dependable when it matters. Together, they're such an entertaining couple to watch, and I find myself looking forward to all of their scenes. I love both of this characters, whereas, the more I like the ML, the less I like the FL. Have you guys been noticing that recently there are quite many dramas depicting very annoying, unlikable FL characters? I wonder what's going on with this.
Unfortunately, I skipped through most of Prince Xin's scenes because I already knew he'd just frustrate and upset me and I don't want to have more fine lines from entertaining myself with this drama. That said, I have to give credit where it's due, the actor is doing an excellent job. He's exactly the kind of character we're not supposed to like, and the fact that he evokes that reaction means he's portraying the role exceptionally well.

ep 27... WHAT WAS THAT????? 😭😭😭 Like, what was the point of putting us through that, dear writer?! I…
Okay, I've finally finished it... and honestly, it wasn't as confusing as I thought. 😂 I was only confused because I was watching it while working.

I don't even know how many tears I wasted on this drama. 😭 The first 10 episodes or so didn't really make me cry, but from Episode 10 until the very end... I was an emotional mess. Even the way they looked at each other carried so much emotion, wanting to be together but knowing they couldn't. Every meeting was beautiful, yet heartbreaking at the same time. It felt like they were destined to meet, but at the wrong time. There were just too many things working against them for everything to ever be simple.

As for the ending, I actually loved it. I think it was enough, and personally, I don't think it needs a second season unless it's about different characters in the same era or anything. To me, they got their happy ending in their own way. As long as they ended up together, that's enough for me. 🤍

I cried so much that I honestly don't think I'll ever rewatch it. 😂 But it's such a good drama. It's an emotional roller coaster, and the plot keeps surprising you until the very end.

If you're okay with getting emotionally drained, if you understand that a happy ending doesn't always have to be sunshine and fairy tales, and if you're looking for something beyond the usual sweet cdramas romance, then I really recommend giving this one a try. At its core, it's not just a love story, it's a journey of sacrifice, growth, and choosing both the people they love and the people they serve.

also every episode I'm laughing so much; there's so many cringe worthy scenes but in a way that's enjoyable rather than annoying, which is surprising for someone like me who usually dislikes cringey things. I feel like it's the way they make it more satirical, like purposely making it cringe worthy in a lighthearted way, and it's a nice contrast to the solemnity of the fl and other characters. huayong's cheesy lines lightens up the atmosphere when everyone else is taking themselves a bit too seriously haha
