OK, looks like I must have blinked and missed some clues. It's hard to remember all these details buried in 40 episodes that include too many about secondary characters. Oh no, Qinshi's brother and his wife are back again near the conclusion of this drama. Argh! Well, thank you for explaining your perspective.

Yanghua never said 'I love you' to Qinshi. He said other kinds of flowery stuff to her which I often have boys say the same to me delivered with the same deadpan face like Yanghua's but everybody knows that it is just teasing and kidding. He might have said it when he was drunk (I can't recall) but you can't take a drunkard's words seriously. Now I'm at the episode where Qinshi left her job but do you see any sign of Yanghua comforting her, no he's hanging around at his ex-girlfriend's place. Argh! Only Tao seems to care. The goodwill I feel towards Yanghua for the greater part of this drama is dispersing fast. Now I understand what the other commenters are complaining about.

What when did Yanghua say all that? He has such a roundabout way of saying romantic things that even I didn't get it so cannot blame Qinshi for not getting it either. I don't think Qinshi really knows that he loves her, she only knows that he cares about her which is very different from being in love with her. He should just say 3 little words 'I love you' and then there would not be anymore misunderstanding. The flowery language can come after otherwise it sounds like kidding around on its own.

I'm perplexed after finishing ep.36, all I saw was Qinshi thwarting Tao's advances even in front of Yanghua and the next moment Yanghua accused Qinshi of violating the marriage agreement and terminating the marriage. Can someone explain in what way did Qinshi violate the marriage agreement? Right now I don't have good feelings towards Yanghua as I feel that he's looking for any excuse to get out of the contract now that Yaoyao is on the scene. If he's unsure about Qinshi's feelings towards him why did he not tell Qinshi of his love for her first instead of playing the game of who says it first like teenagers. Very disappointing episode and not in keeping with Yanghua's supposed straightforward and rational character. He left her shortly after she got demoted just when she needed emotional support most. Not good.

OK, good to know going forward as I continue from episode 30 onwards.

They should have torn up the contract once they develop feelings for each other. It's a personal contract after all and not officially filed anywhere. I don't sense that Qinshi has anymore feelings for tjh but Yanghua might have misconstrued especially seeing her napping in his office and tjh tending to her. You've got a good point about Yanghua testing Qinshi since he seems to be unsure of their relationship status.

It started out as a fake marriage but to me it became real because they slept together and were intimate all the way or am I just imagining it? (don't know how else to describe it delicately). So I'm miffed at Yanghua for still calling it a fake marriage and still expecting a divorce. That cheapens the intimacy that they had. I hope he would not change his character too much after the split and become insensitive. That would spoil his beautiful aura.

Thank-you for the encouragement. I'll continue to watch as long as it doesn't become too dreadful. It's too bad the screenwriter puts this trying period in the final quarter rather than in the middle and ends up upsetting viewers.

I'm on episode 29 and it's very disheartening to read several comments that the last 10 episodes are bad. Just reading the comments I already know that Yanghua and Qinshi break up but given that Yanghua has totally lost his confidence and self-worth and he fears dragging Qinshi down, it is quite understandable. So he has to find himself before he has anything to offer Qinshi. Is it because of them being apart with little romance that is upsetting viewers or is it because the last 10 episodes make no sense at all with poor directing and bad editing? Please give some reasons why the remaining 10 episodes are bad so that I can consider whether to continue watching.

No, LBY was not implying that CSS did wrong or misunderstood him. He was only saying that 5 years ago he was wrong when he kept CSS totally in the dark resulting in her deep resentment, anger and inability to forgive. After nearly losing their lives and each other in the underground dungeon CSS has released all that anger and resentment (this is what has changed from 5 years ago that LBY was talking about) especially after LBY affirmed that after killing his 'fake' father and seeing CSS he regretted very much not treating her as an equal partner, so now CSS trusts and believes in him as he in her. As to your second question about LBY saying that he would treat her well to compensate for her suffering : this could have been edited out due to time constraint or it could have been implied when he declared that a husband and wife should be of one mind and walk side by side which is precisely what CSS wants to make her happy in a relationship. Before, that relationship was very one-sided with LBY being tight-lipped and closed off.

Yes, now I understand why CSS feels used by LBY. CSS is very astute and doesn't get fooled by his pretty face.

Episode 21 where the 'father' got killed, you mean the soldiers in red rushing into the hall of Marquis Chengyang's residence were with LBY? I thought they belonged to the 'father' because A-Qi and A-Fei were facing them with their swords drawn. If so it's very irresponsible of LBY to risk his soldiers' lives for a personal vendetta. As for the tiger seal my deduction now is that when General Wan returned LBY's own tiger seal to the Crown Prince, LBY must have asked for it back from the CP at that time and then stole the original from Marquis Yue who had stolen it from CP. Thanks for shedding some light.

I'm on episode 21 of Part 2 where LBY killed his fake father. In addition to being charged with patricide he was also charged with stealing the tiger seal and deploying the troops. I thought LBY used his own tiger seal (which General Wan used) to replace CSS's fake one so why would the crown prince be in trouble? Besides this happened in much earlier episode so why is LBY being charged now? As to the deployment of the troops, when did he do that? When he killed his 'father' he only had his two favorite soldiers with him.

I just finished episode 23 but I don't understand why DFQC wants to ensure that the Chidi woman (aka Wanqing) has a successful hardship experience in order to save her soul. She is his archenemy who defeated him and sealed him 30,000 years ago so it makes more sense that he would want to kill her instead. Can anyone explain?

Thanks! I often wonder why they would make a drama from a book that's not popular. I'll watch this drama as the majority of the comments here are favorable especially when most of this drama has already been shown.

Does the drama follow the book? Is it better to read the translated book first?
