Nice overview. However in the novel it's not even clear when she starts liking him, the author is very stingy in that department or like you said it could be lost in translation. Do you know when? I have mixed feelings about this story. I'm reading the novel but I don't get the romance. It's just the ML/Xie Wei grabbing what he wants whether the FL/Jiang Xue Ning wants it or not. He is forcing himself on her and she acquiesces because she is too frightened of him. Now I'm only reading the machine translated version so maybe I'm reading it wrong but I don't see any comments about this. What if the ML is ugly would people put up with this behavior? Then again the drama may make the ML behave better.

So she puts on an act of caring to get close to him but halfway in the story she admits to herself that her heart is touched but she cannot do anything about it.

She has a vital mission to accomplish that determines the very existence of the immortal realm and whatever attraction she feels for TTJ has to be kept at bay. When he's in danger, hurt, or not around, she seems concerned because if he should die his evil bone will be awakened and the demon god will return much stronger and her mission will immediately fail. She has to remove the evil bone first before his death.

Since the drama follows fairly closely to the book then why not follow the same HE ending as in the book. That's what readers would want and find it bewildering that the drama team did a U-turn and decided not to give closure. If the drama had been an entirely different story, but just using similar names, then obviously one would not have much expectation as to the ending. You could say why not read the ending in the book but I find machine translation confusing to read and I was looking forward to the drama's depiction of the ending as in the book. So disappointing!

Yes, the leads' struggles were too long and it's a depressing message from the drama that if you are born under bad circumstances followed by hardships in your youth you just cannot achieve your heart's desire no matter how hard you try. We are often encouraged that if we work hard with integrity we can overcome our poor beginnings and have a good life. The drama team forgot or did not care to include this inspirational message.

I'm on ep.32 but just reading the comments I already know that it's going to be an unhappy ending. I don't get the director and screenwriters, they put us through the wringer throughout the whole drama and then they gleefully put on a bad ending for us. They are sadistic! I've gone too far in the drama to give up now but I won't be enjoying the last 8 episodes. What a pity! Instead of repeating so many unnecessary flashbacks they could have filmed a happy ending. Does anyone know if there's any outcry/outrage from the viewers in China that would maybe get Youku to do a special episode to makeup for the poor ending?
