I had lost respect for the GOT team after what they did to my favorite characters in GOT, so I was not surprised…
Just thinking of Jon Snow and Daenerys makes my blood boil again. I really can't understand how Benioff and Weiss could butcher those characters that much. I felt the 8 years I spent on this series utterly wasted. Thus, I didn't watch the prequel and have no intention of watching any other offshoot of GOT. The only reason I watched 3 Body Problem was because I've been intrigued about the cdrama version but was hesitant to start a 30-episode drama that I wasn't sure I would like. The Netflix version whetted my appetite for it.

I had lost respect for the GOT team after what they did to my favorite characters in GOT, so I was not surprised that they butchered the Netflix drama too. There is one good thing I can say about the 8-episode Netflix version - it got me curious to watch the 30-episode Chinese version as I felt hollow after watching the former even though the subject matter - an alien civilization interested in conquering a more hospitable planet that its current occupants are taking for granted - is up my alley. This cdrama is so addictive I stayed up 'til early morning each day I was watching it ๐Ÿ˜„

You can never go wrong with Bai Lu and Dylan Wang
So true! Aside from their incomparable visuals and chemistry, I love how appropriately campy they both acted their parts. For this type of humor not to become slapstick requires nuanced acting that they were both able to pull off.

My most favorite romantic moment is their first face-to-face meeting, when Shu Yi pretended to borrow Shi Yan's…
Indeed, Shu Yi being far from a cookie-cutter type of FL is truly refreshing. She has flaws which make her realistic and relatable, but her good points more than make up for her flaws. You're right, though she is confused about her feelings thus sucks at making Shi Yan know how she feels, she is loyal to him. She never felt romantic towards Yu You and Yi Yang.

Thanks for pointing this out. I forgot this one and possibly others too. I normally hate misunderstandings in dramas but somehow found the misunderstandings in OFL entertaining, I guess because, as you've said, they mirror real life where we sometimes find it difficult to be completely honest with ourselves and others.

Amen to just being happy with favorites and leaving other actors and dramas alone.LIVE and LET LIVE! ๐Ÿ˜ŠThere…
I agree. I just watched Three-body where the root cause of the possible extinction of the human race is man's cruelty. Humans are worse than other animals. Other animals kill to survive. Humans kill (including killing the reputation of an actor or drama) due to envy, pride, greed/money, and other black-hearted reasons.

I'm on episode 21. Haven't read the books, yet. Have ordered them. The one thing that keeps coming to my mind…
My 2-cents:
I think Trisolarians are still holding on to the hope that there is a solution to their 3-body problem. And they're hoping Earthlings will help them, that's why they've been inviting the latter to play their video game. There is no guarantee that they'll be able to live on Earth. Would they be able to breath here? How would other elements in the environment affect them? Another possible reason they need Earthlings is because they are not sure to survive the 400-year trek to our planet. Whenever their civilizations are destroyed, they make sure at least one of them survives to rehydrate the rest when the next stable era comes. If no Trisolarian survives their travel to Earth, they need at least one Earthling to revive them.

I think Pan Han is extremely frustrated with what humans are doing to their planet and that frustration drove him crazy. Especially after learning the extreme hardship Trisolarians go through in their planet, yet they value life there so much they have even devised ways to be reborn through dehydration and rehydration.

Regarding "Physics doesn't exist" and the suicides, physicists try to determine the laws that govern matter, motion, and energy in the universe, devoting their whole lives to their work. While the shooter theory indicates some behavior may simply be random, the effect of the shooter's whim and does not apply to the whole universe, there is another reason experiments are failing in the drama and causing frustration among many physicists. "Physics doesn't exist" seems to mean there are no universal laws governing all matter, motion, and energy. I guess some humans can't accept the futility of their life's work and are driven to suicide.

However. I take this suicidal tendency as just another proof of how little humans value the blessing they have been bestowed with - a beautiful planet that does not threaten to obliterate civilizations every now and then. Yet we abuse this blessing abominably, not caring for lives here, whether it be of other animals, plants, or our own.

Not read your spoiler as only up to Episode 8 but wanted to say hi!! Loving it so far.
Hahaha, I agree about birds of the same feather ๐Ÿ˜„

I watched the 8-episode Netflix version first that got me intrigued to start this 30-episode version that hooked me from the first episode ๐Ÿฅฐ I love how the 3-body problem in Trisolaris makes one realize that Earth is truly special in the universe and it would be hard to find another like it thus should be treated with utter care and respect.

Thanks for the tip about A Snail Falls in Love. I'll check it out.

I've been planning to rewatch Princess Agents but am getting sidetracked by Hollywood classics Netflix recently released like Places in the Heart (with Sally Field), Falling In Love (Meryl Streep/Robert De Niro), Amadeus (Tom Hulce) ๐Ÿ˜Š

What is with those hideous outfits they put the fl in? Not even the copious filter strength they used could disguise…
I, too, found some of her clothes appalling, like her polo shirt that looked like it was missing a skirt or pants and the super short outfit she wore to her ex-classmate's wedding. I've been wondering whether super short clothes are in vogue in China. However, her long dress that she wore to the party with Yi Yang was gorgeous though. Her quirky fashion sense seems to reflect her own quirky nature.

Among the multilayered misunderstandings (everyone is welcome to add what I might have missed):
- Shu Yi's misunderstanding of the relationship between Shi Yan and Le Zhi
- Shu Yi's suspicion that Shi Yan likes Shi Yue
- Xing Zhou and Le Zhi's suspicion that Shu Yi is having an affair with an old married man
- Shi Yue's attempts to match Shu Yi up with her uncle being hampered by an "uncle" Shi Yue suspects Shu Yi likes, not knowing it's her own uncle
- Shu Yi being her contradictory self when she told Shi Yue she was indeed pursuing "the uncle", but it wasn't sincere, a confession that just created more layers of misunderstandings
- Shi Yan making himself look pathetic in his niece's eyes but trying not to make her know he is intentionally being pathetic, to wrestle the "truth" from her about Shu Yi's feelings for the uncle he knows to be him but Shi Yue doesn't know. To exacerbate the layers of misunderstandings, the "truth" turned out to be anything but. Shi Yan and Shi Yue were misled by Shu Yi's contradictory nature and her ignorance and confusion about her own feelings.
- Shi Yue unknowingly figuratively twisting Shi Yan's heart with a knife when she passed on Shu Yi's contradictory confession to him

Itโ€™s really intriguing why people would care to disparage this drama to the point of attacking other people's enjoyment of it. Yes, those who understood OFL truly enjoyed the multilayered misunderstandings outlined in the spoiler below.

I'm also curious why everyone can't just be happy extolling the merits of their favorite actors/dramas and leaving other actors/dramas alone. Why the need to put other actors/dramas down? Are the favorite actors/dramas so devoid or lacking of merits that they can only be lifted up by putting other actors/dramas down?

Envy is such a terrible affliction that eats up one's heart, leaving the afflicted unable to enjoy such gems as Only For Love.

Is this good? Three body problem series has been my favourite sci fi since 2014 I think. So I donโ€™t want to…
I think the games were done well. At least they show how bleak life on Trisolaris is. Earth is paradise, even Heaven, compared to it.

Title Three-Body Spoiler
This is the most engrossing Chinese drama I've watched. It's much better than the Netflix version. Aside from the scientific and mathematical discussions, the issues covered - humans treating other humans and the environment despicably to a point that would raise the question of whether man deserves to continue living in this beautiful planet or not - are presented in such a thought-provoking manner that powerfully draws the viewer in. The production, acting and music create a haunting, mysterious and sinister mood that fits the subject matter.

The story emphasizes the fallacy in the conventional belief that more advanced civilizations are likely to be friendly. In fact, history has shown that advanced civilizations tend to subjugate more primitive ones. This drama made me pray that those searching for extraterrestrial life would be circumspect about letting aliens know Earth's position in the universe, much less invite them in.

This drama also revived my awe at how blessed we are to have such a beautiful planet to live in. In this violent universe, planets are more likely to have uninhabitable conditions similar to Trisolaris than Earth. Yet, how are we handling this blessing? By acting like only certain humans have a right to be here, disregarding how our actions affect other occupants of this planet like humans who look different, other animals, plants, land masses and bodies of water.

Three-body is such a drama that can make viewers feel strongly about our beautiful planet as well as human moral frailties such as cruelty, selfishness, pride and dishonesty that could spell our doom.

Shu Yi's quirkiness is one of the things I love about OFL. It's a challenge to know what she'll do next because she, herself, is confused about her own feelings. She feels one thing and says another. Yup, the expression on her face at their first meeting indicates she developed a crush on him that instant. But having not experienced such a feeling before, being self-centered, she did not understand it. I think she made excuses to pursue him but deep in her heart it was because she liked him. It's really interesting to find out when she'll be true to herself.
