This is an investigative historical drama with comedy thrown in occasionally. There is tension esp.in fight/confrontation scenes but not a ghostly suspense kind of thing. 😁

I'll put my thoughts on Shang Bie Li in a spoiler below:

What I got from their brief interaction in his intro scene was that Shang Bie Li used to be under the command of Gen.Nan and became sworn brothers with him. He is angry at JXB coz he believes his sworn "sister-in-law" killed herself because of JXB's investigation.
Frankly, I find him irrational and unprofessional considering he doesn't know the full story and he later killed a lead suspect just to spite JXB. We'll see if his character gets better over time.
