Yeah they cut it, and I am glad they did because it is kind of OOC for the characters in that setting. It is one thing for them to already kiss outdoors (in secret), but another to kiss in front of others (with the eunuch just steps away) especially with Qin Wan. She is an unmarried woman at the end of the day in a period setting.

I love seeing the breadcrumbs they are already dropping in these episodes leading up to the final case.

Yeah, if you are new to the genre, then it is still fresh and interesting. But for C-viewers who have been watching these dramas for like 20-30+ years now, these genres always go the same way. It is very predictable, and it is always about romantic love now. Older xianxia type dramas used to be a lot more about love for the world and love for the common people (and not just slogan wise aka characters saying it, the plot actually focused on those aspects so there were a lot more depth and character development).

The Crown Prince is now trying to make Qin Wan into his primary consort instead due to her achievements and benefits she did bring (especially now that she got the title of Princess). He knows Qin Zhaoyu might not be happy with becoming the secondary consort so said he did arrange another marriage for her instead.

We are instead seeing more regular period idol dramas with FL/ML jumping into a story set in historical times, female generals, etc.

Tbh for her age, she already has very good results especially with her TV dramas. Not many in her age group gets to have their dramas air on TV often and with good viewership nor have projects with CCTV.

The C-fan circle is just dominated by idol genre drama fans, so they do make fun of her for not having as much idol dramas (since those attract fans) or that she doesn't attract hardcore fans as much. But she literally closed her own fan club down, doesn't go on variety shows much except to promote her dramas, don't buy Weibo trends to hype herself, nor promote herself by joining in popular trends on Douyin.

She is a unique case in the 95-99 generation, but it is working for her, she has the talent and visual to keep getting projects and she has a lot of casual drama fans. They don't do data but will tune in for her dramas just because she has made a reputation for herself now with picking good/decent scripts. She is someone who will probably win awards in the future and that is not something most traffic actors/actresses can do since the industry doesn't really take them seriously.
