The sister could start to lose interest in her boyfriend but still want to have him as a friend (or as a brother in law ...) while the two boys figure out their feelings. It's way too tidy a solution but they could go that route if they wanted

I think it's more the other way around; the purpose of leading us to feel so hopeful for him was so that the emotional impact of his death would be greater.

I liked the whole NC scene and lead up to it despite the very weird/bad editing because I think the actors did a good job, Ravin was so sweetly asking for it. But yeah, it could have been way better.

This is not a BOC production. Bas is independent. I've never even heard of the companies behind this, it seems very low budget. Why are people going into this expecting BOC quality?

Direction matters a lot in NC scenes, not only acting ability. I feel like way too many people are dragging Lhongchang specifically (who I don't think has even been in anything else yet), while neither of them were kissing open mouthed even though Bas obviously can be comfortable with that and much more
This show grosses me out, and it's not the age gap because I can get behind an age gap if it's done well (I was just earlier saying that I would totally ship two characters from a different show who have an even bigger age gap). I think it might be the over the top manga-style acting giving uncanny valley *combined* with that age gap, with all that make up settling into the older actor's wrinkles and his gigantic creepy smile and then the younger actor's wide open terrified eyes all the time... like is it a horror film or what? Geez. If they both just looked human, maybe I could get behind it.
I understand why cartoons have exaggerated expressions to show emotion, but I have no idea why real human faces would then emulate those cartoons and make everything look so unrealistic. I'm not trying to tell people that they can't like different things than I do, but I see that there's a big debate going on here about whether or not the age gap is acceptable, and I don't think it's necessarily just that one thing making it weird for people so I wanted to point out that it might be the acting style. I know it's a thing in Japanese shows, and it's always a miss for me, but in this context (supposed to be sexy) it's a big nope. It was a big reason why I didn't like Fukami either.
There are of course plenty of great JBL with excellent, believable/natural acting.
For everyone who thought the first half was so much better than the second... why? At least the second love interest could somewhat act. The first guy, it was like someone instructed him to definitely not show any emotions whatsoever

I heard somewhere that Asian audiences don't have this overwhelmingly negative opinion of AI like we have in the west, it seems like that might not be true if there was this much backlash!

I agree, but I think it's not the actors but the styling... the make up on the older guy and the hair on the younger... I don't know, it all looks unnatural and uncanny valley for me, with some more natural looks and lighting it might work. That plus the anime style over the top acting, I can't get into this at all. And I had the same kinds of issues with Fukami.
