I Mad & You Can't Stop Me From Being Mad!

[Note: This is the episode where I start getting truly mad, and I don't hold back that fact. I don't care what *beloved* character it is. THIS is why!!As an adult, if Jiang Cheng had seen Wuxian, as a child, on the streets, he'd have walked on by, or maybe even called guards to take him away for stealing food scraps. He'd NEVER help someone as uncouth or unclean as the child Wuxian was when JC's dad took him in, even WITH knowing his background!How do I know? HERE IN THIS EPISODE! Even if Jiang Cheng doesn't know the ENTIRE story of what went down, he is still well aware of the care and nurturing that Wen Qing & Wen Ning gave him and his family! They would NOT be alive if it was not for them. THIS HE KNOWS! Sitting back on pretense so as not to have OTHER CLANS talk ill about you behind your back, like the evil gossipers they are, and allow your saviors to be KILLED is their REWARD from JC.Multiple times JC tells Wuxian NOT to CARE ABOUT OTHERS, just his immediate family and keeping JC leader and fulfilling JC'S ambitions for HIS clan!! Talk about arrogant!! No matter how much LOVE is between the 3 siblings, these aspects,from the first time I watched, to now, are things I can NEVER forgive Jiang Cheng for at all. It pisses me off even more the 2nd time around! WHERE IS HIS LOYALTY!?! !!!One that says, yes, innocent people should suffer because we don't want to hurt the feelings of someone superior if we tell them that's evil and they're full of shit acting like a dominant force over everyone and pretending it's somehow PURE and untainted because they're the ones doing it is simply, EVIL regardless!!People who standby and allow wrongdoing to go undeterred or unpunished are guilty of complicity, pure and simple. On this, Wuxian has the highground, and ALWAYS will have the highground!Wangji: "Where are you going?"Wuxian: "I have no idea, but the world is wide. Lan Zhan, do you still remember the promise we have made together?"That someone like Wangji would say all the words of understanding that Wuxian really isn't doing/saying anything wrong, yet still look at his TEMPERAMENT first, always disappoints me. What would it be like if Wangji hadn't had "love at first sight" with Wuxian? Would he be like a more stoic Xi Chen? Or just like his uncle?I hate that, despite loving him, understanding him, seeing the change, knowing how and why in 2 phases this happened, and appreciating his heart, it STILL takes him forever to get onboard!!! Wangji will still defer to his brother and elder clansmen, even when he knows they are wrong, as well as witnessing firsthand some of the evils they have committed. I mean, it always floors me that he's okay sitting back after seeing women & children killed, which always, in history, reminds us of horrible events in the name of extinguishing "bad" from the world, and saying NOTHING. Not 1 single word. It's up to Wuxian to bring it up, and then Wangji worries about Wuxian's **temperment** and proclivity to EVIL?? PLEASE!! It's so wrong, on so many levels!

Arrogance

The arrogance and pride of the leaders of every clan, including Jiang Cheng is so distasteful to me. They act like they're pious, and understand right from wrong, YET, when the shoe is on the other foot, they act just like the very evil clan they say they fight against.No, I don't give Xi Chen a pass because he has a sweet and calm demeanor. I don't give any of them a pass when they treat ANY human being like a dog, and allow people to spit out class distinction insults while pretending to look at everyone as equals. Letting any evil slide because of someone's "SUPERIOR" status, "HEIRARCHY", or "RESPECTING ELDERS" are just as evil. There's absolutely no excuse for it and anyone who stands in the bleacher, or on the sidelines and lets it just happen, is equally as guilty of either complicity or aiding & abetting. There's a reason there are laws against it in an open, constitutional republic that holds its citizens as equals.

Trying to keep Wangji from hanging out with Wuxian is such a shit ass thing to do. His uncle is a real hard ass who should have already learned his ways don't work. If not for Wangji & Wuxian getting all the heirs out of Dodge City he'd still be hiding and cowering in a cave.Meng Yao is already saying shit to set up Wuxian. Wuxian was NOT the only one with Yue Yang... but there you go. And Zewu Jun love pretenses like all the other leaders. Say a few flattering things. Show demure decorum. Don't back talk and act like a servant bitch, and they'll trust you're good to go. But Wuxian, he's an ass because he doesn't do things they're way or conform. But who is right and who is wrong. That's the point. Superficial doesn't cut it.

Good As Bad As Evil?

This is the episode in which Wangji’s entire world is rocked. He’s sat on the side, together with Wuxian, and seeing the arrogance, the ambition, the selfishness, the deceitfulness, and the pretense of being good while doing evil acts. He now realizes everything he once held true and valid is made up of bullshit. That given certain circumstances, even without a Yin Iron shard, they’d be just as evil as Wen Ruohan.Then there is Wuxian, who steadies his heart, mind, & soul to harsh all the wretched bitterness for something good and pure. He can’t be bothered with the petty egotism of these cruel people who think a caste system is just and upright.

Looks Can Be Deceiving

Wuxian wants to keep his secret about why he prefers the flute to the sword from Wangji. It's so easy for him to deceive Jiang Cheng, because he never really cares to know more than what's on the surface anyway. He'll do whatever to just have the status quo and be on top. It's not easy to do that with Wangji because he saw the change before in the cave. Like Wen Qing, he's pretty sure he knows what's up.Wuxian's comments though.. How hard that must have been to hear for Wangji, especially while Jiang Cheng soaked it up after getting Wangji's help in the first place. That felt like one of those breakup conversations you see in J-Dramas where the person pretends to be an ass to end things out of perfect noble idiocy. Wuxian knows that Wangji's dogmatic. He can't follow those rules now, so it just wouldn't work as it stands. I cry for Wangji and his loneliness while he stoically pretends to be okay.

Yanli is Everything Sweet

Jiang Cheng hasn't changed one bit in all these years, and Yanli is the glue that holds this family together.It's not so much the stories you hear but the fact that you know they'll never experience this kind of joy ever again that just keeps on ripping your heart out.The sacrifices that Wuxian continues to make over and over for the sake of his family is mind numbing. That he never seeks approval or appreciation, only just to be able to have his family safe and sound. He's even sacrifice being with them until the end if it means they're in a better place, no matter what dark, cold place he himself ends up in.I know that Jiang Cheng's bad temper is all pretense, but I still can't help feeling like I eat a piece of fish and got a small bone stuck in my mouth. It's the acting on pretenses that has cased problems for all the elders of every clan. It's not like these dudes cannot see that themselves. That Jiang Cheng is fine just being the same always irks me to no end. He hurts especially bad knowing the things he's being given merely because he refuses to put down the pretenses in the first place. It just feels so beyond selfish, even if he doesn't understand completely just HOW selfish he is. !!!

I Miss Wangji

The utter sadness sets in.This is the 2nd episode where I am irritated at Jiang Cheng. The blame that goes to Wuxian is unreasonable. We all know he didn't ever do anything that caused anything that wasn't already going to happen. Jiang Cheng's personality is the EXACT reasons his parents put Wuxian beside him and treated Wuxian the way they did. He can't even muster anything for his sister who has to suffer alone. She's a woman who doesn't cultivate dangit! What use is he to her as a brother? Thankfully they both have Wuxian.[Note: The paranoia, the self doubt, the blame would not be a part of Wuxian's psyche at all if it wasn't for the darkness that entered his soul after coming into contact with the Túshā Xuánwǔ sword. I'll also note that, Wen Qing, having worked with Wen Ruo Han in order to suppress the affects of the Stygian Iron on him, is well aware that Wuxian is being affected by something similar, even if she doesn't express it. There's no way she doesn't see its affects.]This is where I knew that Wuxian floated wherever the wind took him or in better words both ways. Wen Qing and him fight like a married couple. It's clear, just like her brother, she's let affection for Wuxian seep into her soul. Wuxian appreciates the care, and will always reciprocate.Like the reason Wuxian was fascinated with Wangji and sought him out for friendship, she has talents that either match his or surpass him. These kinds of people are hard for him to find. It's also a clear indicator that Wangji floated this way from the start, and was the one having to suppress lots of things. I believe Wuxian understood that deep down from the start, and why he enjoyed teasing him in that vein. It's most assuredly that Wuxian comes to his feelings over time, where as for Wangji, it was love at first sight. lol.

Belated Appreciation for Madam Yu

Another episode I find myself balling my eyes out.Madam Yu whips Wuxian and even he understands the reason behind it. He's honestly not mad at Madam Yu, but the lies of the Wen clan, and their despicable actions. He even acknowledges a willingness to not fight Madam Yu if she chooses to take an arm for "peace" as Wen clan suggests.Madam Yu, after hearing "supervisory office" and the plans of Wen clan, realizes that no matter what is done now, they're coming for them. She's not willing to give up anyone, including Wuxian, to them, nor be under their thumb. She lives up to the clan's motto "attempt the impossible"!When I first watched this episode I hated her and was so mad. But seeing it now, and Wuxian's reactions, I take it back. There's a reason that Wuxian took all her beatings and shittalking. Jiang Cheng couldn't handle it if both his parents admired Wuxian. Even his own mom can admit he is no match for him. I don't believe she really believes the rumors about Feng Mian, now that I think about it. Jiang Cheng, when going outside the Lotus Pier, or once he takes over the clan, would likely hear these words and question things. Madam Yu was the BALANCE that Jiang Cheng needed in order for him to not come out like Xue Yang, Meng Yao, or even Wen Chao! It made him feel "sympathy" for Wuxian, rather than resentment!This time around, even knowing what I know, when Madam Yu grabbed Wuxian after saying her goodbyes to her son, I almost thought for a second, it would end different. This time around, I felt her care, if not love, for Wuxian! Her "I hate you" sounded more like "I love you" to me this time around!The first time I watched this episode, I seriously resented Madam Yu for making demands of Wuxian on behalf of her son after what she did and said! ...but now I realize, she said it because she knew she could and that he would respond willingly! For all the "..you get us into trouble.." "..you never behave.." "..you run off and do your own thing..", if she truly believed all that, she'd not even bother to make the demand! Would anyone make those demands of "evil" troublemakers like Xue Yang or Wen Chao!! HELL NO! That's all you really need to wrap your mind around when unfolding this episode. This isn't even something she really had to say because Wuxian was ALWAYS going to give his life for his family ESPECIALLY Jiang Cheng! Madam Yu is fully aware, core or not, Jiang Cheng will need Wuxian behind him to be emotionally stable and strong!
