With the whole detective being an ass thing, I think the angle they are going here for is human evil. Even though YHJ is a psycopath and a serial killer, the viewers hate the reporter equally. Isn't that interesting? With the reporter gone, the writers are now focusing on another human evil. The detective is pretending to be Na Moo's well wisher but he is lead by human greed and bias.
So, we have YHJ- a psycopath on one hand and on the other hand we have these seemingly normal human beings, who are evil too. Evil takes different forms, I guess.

Plus I am really interested in the prosecutor's story too? He isn't given much screentime/importance in the show but I feel that he had a really sad and difficult past as well but he doesn't get enough credit for that. All these characters need therapy;;;
