Oh really? I didn’t know it was from the same author!! Yea, it’s defo not the dreamy kind. Would say it is very realistic actually, and in a way still applicable in current times.
The couple was very sweet though albeit not the “dreamy” kind. I always thought they got married after the series, like it was because of the series… 🤔
I watched it more than once… and it still rates very highly on my list… only LLtG is in the same league when it comes to similar genre…

But because of flow and pacing…. I gave Story of Ming Lan a slightly higher rating…. The pacing here is slightly off because of all the “slow motions”…. Like it was very apparent in the first 15 episodes.

Yeaaaa…. Well. The focus is also romance…. Like it is the main theme….. BUT….. it’s not the same in the sense that it doesn’t have so many heart wrenching moments…. Which also makes sense given this novel is meant to be between a 15 yr old and a 20 yr old…

Story of Ming Lan’s romance is defo a lot more mature. Esp in the original novel I think the ML is much older, well at least the drama the ML is defo a lot older. It is less “dreamy” vs LLtG, I.e more realistic….

Yea it is quite similar to The Story of Ming Lan…. But like a newer version… or like upgraded version with even younger leads and defo a bigger play on roller coaster emotions.

The themes+ topics are similar, and the standard is also similar.

There aren’t many series that come to mind…. Esp not like this whereby it had so many moments/scenes between the 2 leads. Not to mention the comedic spurts.

Do recommend Sword of Brocade as well but please have lower expectations…. The plot is defo weaker/more generic and the leads are not as striking, amongst other things. But defo worth the watch…

The Rebel Princess is one of my favourites as well but I’m biased, the series was pretty controversial but the themes and messages delivered were somewhat similar.

I’m totally experiencing withdrawal syndrome. My entire wkn feels empty after I finished binge-watching…. SIGHS…..
This is bad……. Only a handful of series have made me feel this way……

LOL. I felt the same too. It’s especially apparent in the first 15 episodes or so…. It really changes after 20 episodes. I couldn’t take my eyes of the screen. The slow-mo bits are less obvious after and also less frequent.

It was also because of this whole slow-mo thingy…. That I managed to wait until it finished airing before binge watching, 🤣 I was super surprised the ratings were so high…. Coz I started watching maybe 1-3 episodes when it first aired and easily stopped watching. I probably wouldn’t have picked it up if the ratings dwindled. But the super high ratings made me curious. Like only Story of Ming Lan (similar genre, C-drama) had these kinda ratings.

I totally gave it a 9.5 after I finished watching it.

Sighs… poor dude, he was superbly charming and he totally stood out in My Roommate Is a Detective… I just started watching today…

Totally fitting with the whole Netflix brand + style…. I thought it was super fitting when I saw The Long Ballad.

I added a Comedy tag for this series, the drama is hilarious. I had no idea it was partially comedic!! But I think it needs voting, well hopefully it gets approved.

Gosh. I thought of the exact same thing. I felt the first 15 episodes or so were a bit….. I wouldn’t call it boring per se but I thought it was a bit slow… yes! I realised this was a comedy after, it was hilarious!! I was crying and laughing at the same time.

Ah…. Now that you mention, yes… I have a vague recollection that there was some key…. I just remembered clearly that I was shocked and perplexed with the ending. And she took something from him, I thought it was the ring.

In the novel she does, apparently she has remained faithful via the entire novel and ended up being his ultimate wife….? Or the main wife… I can’t read Chinese but I think that’s wot it roughly translates to.

Looks like season 2 even if it happens will be an entirely different cast, which is dumb….. 😔

Yea I did some digging and he has like multiple wives, specifically only 2 but like dalliances with a few….

Apparently she has been spying on him all along… at least it seemed to be the case in the novel but the person who posted didn’t mention why. Ah I see, yes fair point. I thought of it yesterday too like she perhaps really thought he was dead.

Huh but I thought she took the ring in the last episode? No? Probably I remembered wrongly, watched it a while back. Wasn’t he in the cave and she took the ring away?

Like why did she take the ring? She’s someone’s spy? She’s an antagonist?
