I’m pleasantly surprised and impressed with his portrayal. The scene where he is walking in the town as a physician…
Everyone has their own opinion on dubbing. I don't mind it.

none it's the writer's fault. The writer doesn't want to get deep, it's all surface and will be surface.
Actually, I didn't ask

They were just doing moves with the spear. It doesn't mean anything except as a tribute to their dead husbands.

Voice dubbing is normal practice in Cdramas. Due to many reasons: actors having strong accents, scheduling conflict…
I'm just explaining the reason. I understand the aesthetic and genre probably doesn't appeal completely to non-Asian watchers.

There are hundreds of CDramas filmed each month and if the actor/actress is popular they simply move from one film set to another. Some have been known to film one drama in the morning and another drama at night. And with the sheer noise from filming in shared locations, the audio is not captured well.

As for Kdramas, I think they do modern day setting best.

No, there are 2 puppet men. One is in red and with the flower in his name, and the other has a spear. You can see them standing with Xiao Hong in Ep.18 on the cliff.

Those wifes/sister-in-laws make me cringe everything, why can't they just be normal? Why do they have to be good…

I wonder how much of Liu Yan's current state is due to his psychotic break and how much is Gui Mudan's doing.

There are many VAs who can do that cute voice. It's usually done to signal a trait in a character.
