I was a history major so I'm aware of this but the average modern person would not and probably have no interest in knowing. Which is too bad because history has influence even in our modern times.

It's the Chinese way of not wanting to portray abusive parents and bad siblings getting their just deserts. I agree with you, it can be very frustrating to watch.

Well you have to have some unlikeable characters😆 Seriously though, the mother and daughter are just selfish and clinging to the son because the husband/head of family died. What I find interesting is they have no desire to know the truth behind his death, just wanting to live well. It's pretty short-sighted.

True but if it races toward events then it risks being unrealistic. You can see how the scriptwriter is slowly building up the main leads' relationship.

As someone who used to watch 60 eps dramas, this drama has a decent pace already.

Being a widow at age 20 is hard. Plus a considerate brother in law can't beat a husband and house of one's own so I can see why some would choose to leave.

Probably too slow for them

As one of the sister in laws said in this drama, they don't even know what will happen to them once they return to their families so they can't risk taking their children. The stigma of being a widow was real back then. Plus with the children carrying their father's surname, you can see why they had to be left behind.

To add another comment, It's already good that the sister in laws were allowed to leave the family after their husbands' deaths but of course they couldn't take their children with them. Most likely their families will find new marriage alliances for them. Being a woman was a miserable state of affairs back then.

Ignore the antis. It's a solid drama. Maybe the only negative point is it's airing at the same time as 3 other high profile dramas
