Incidentally, there's a fervent discussion going on about Park Ji-eun on another page by idiots that want to retaliate against the record-breaking ratings... she knows just when to turn down the heat, the stress never goes on for more than half an episode.

You sound like an amateur/new K-drama fan. Best to watch something else, this was a classic, if it's not for you just come to terms with it quietly.

Yes Soo-hyun. Like the song he sings in My Love From The Star, unmistakable and lovely. He goes into sudden full on operatic bursts in The Producers! (Not ost material!)

I see what you mean. Good writing doesn't need big narrative events, action can be created just by 2 characters looking at each other. It's the characters (and portrayals as you said) that create it - I see your point... but the essential job of the writer and director (as well as the actors) is to imprint those lovable traits through dialogue and situations so we care what they say, who they look at, it's charming and engaging when done right. I think it was done right in this show.

They're clearly on the back burner, about to boil over very soon I imagine. I love how they woke up together in their few early encounters, so funny!

I've seen some marvellous acting from Soo-hyang... the scene in ep.9 where she and Pil-seung are drunk in the street diner... the scene (forget ep #) where she's rationalising Pil-seung's rejection of her offer to date... I can't figure why it's only reaching 15% in ratings, performing below par - maybe because the elders are all so embarrassing thus far and getting short shrift from the staple weekend audience? Anyone know otherwise?

We won't know unless they say what it is. It could be subjective, maybe not a shortcoming at all.

A headline that states a drama has broken a record - is a cue for comments about it not being all that. Why do we feel the need to tear things down? It says a lot about us.

Yes, number of viewers is reported, not whether they felt it was the best. All dramas are different and have different appeal. What are the shortcomings, could you tell us the main shortcoming you're thinking of?

You've touched on the exact reasons K-dramas are popular.
Beautiful people, beautiful stories, beautiful thoughts, beautiful cinematography, adventure, romance, escapism.

When you go to the super, I bet you select your fruit and veg based on their looks. K-dramas are based on thought and narrative, not visuals - the story is presented by the most beautiful to help those ideas reach the widest audience.

I like his movies, they're exciting. But eight in a series? I'll be afraid to miss one so it might be easier to give up, I don't think I'll have the stamina.

Thanks for the article LA. Looking forward to it and will judge after watching. This director must be stressed out, I hope his work receives a warm response from open minded viewers. Yoo Ah-in has made so many apocalyptic titles recently, Alive, Hellbound, Goodbye Earth, and some from the underworld. I hope to see him come back fresh and positive when he's ready.
