In my opinion, the current developments of Wu Zhen and Mei Zhuyu are still in line with their characters.
One may point out Wu Zhen turning against Mei Zhuyu. But, Mei Zhuyu did the same as well. Wu Zhen clearly warned him not to proceed yet he still broke the demon underworld's barrier.
Both had their life long goals and 'family'. Wu Zhen grew up with the demons literally, 18+ years of bonds there. She is the leader of her people and her life long goal is to safe guard the peace and prosperity of the demon underworld. It's the same for Mei Zhuyu with his Changxi bros. They had been taught demons are bad and to eradicate demons at sight since they were young.
It's the classic heart vs responsibility trope. Can love conquer all? May be, and we can guess Wu Zhen and Mei Zhuyu will reconcile eventually. But, if they reconcile at this moment, right upon their identity reveal, I would say that would be badly written.
Wu Zishu and Chang Min are parallels of bad apples in both Wu Zhen and Mei Zhuyu lives. They had years of bonds, and they trusted them respectively. If the betrayal of Chang Min going unnoticed by Mei Zhuyu was acceptable, then the same should apply for Wu Zhen and Wu Zhishu case as well.
It hit hard when Wu Zhen said "I regret it"... ugh the onions
Both of them are at the same stage emotionally. When Liu Taizhen mentioned that they seem to be very intimate lately, it sounded like a humour. But in actuality, they sense something is about to break, so they are making the most out of it with the remaining time. Pretty sad stuff and good writing at the same time.
Is the half of the drama better than the earlier episodes ?
The second half is more serious with a bit faster main plot development and pacing for sure. If the viewer wants a faster pacing, yes the second half looks better.
Personally, I'm enjoying both the lighter slow burn of the first half and the serious undertone of the second half.
It's metaphorical. She is suffering so much now that she regrets her choices. It's to highlight her inner struggles…
My take with that conversation is that Liu Taizhen was telling Wu Zishu to respect Wu Zhen's choices, as Wu Zhen wanted to enjoy her mortal life and she doesn't plan to abandon her mortal companions as well. Liu Taizhen definitely didn't mean anything else.
Wu zhen regret to marry mei zhuyu???? She said in the last part of episode 27 or did i read it wrong???? Please…
It's metaphorical. She is suffering so much now that she regrets her choices. It's to highlight her inner struggles and sufferings. Afterall, she still loves him dearly, and even imagined themselves as a family of three with their own child.
Excellent episodes. I really love how the drama is building the main characters. Especially the inner struggles and fears of Mei Zhuyu and Wu Zhen were very well done. Both leads' delivery in today's episodes were subtle yet powerful.
This drama is cutting the viewers with thousand paper cuts lol. We just don't get a break since we entered the second half of the story. Though, I'm loving these angsts, the ever present tensions, and heavy atmosphere. xD
Tomorrow is the day! Looking forward to how it unfolds!
Mei Si is starting to grow on me for real. This guy thinks simple, and also sincere with what he says and does. Sorry for calling you an idiot in earlier episodes.
Not hanging out with other men, she was minding her own business. Watch the episode first, there were crumbs of…
I'll stay optimistic for now. As long as it doesn't have Prisoner of Beauty level of rushed ending, I can tolerate. 8-9 episodes is still a decent enough space to sort things out compared to 4-5 episodes for a final arc.
Did she really go back to her brothel and hang out with men because he was a bit late after recovering from that…
Not hanging out with other men, she was minding her own business. Watch the episode first, there were crumbs of her side of story throughout the episode as well. It was not as appalling as your description sounded.
Totally agree with the thing about secrets though. It's literally a ticking timebomb.
Villains are now set up with each and everyone of them make Pei Jiya pales in comparison. With the stakes now becoming higher, the leads getting together, and the incoming inevitable angsts... weww, I'm sooo ready for the second half of the story. πͺ
I love this FL in Guardians of Dafeng and her role here. Also love the demons group, cat and snake working together,…
I was introduced to TXW in New Life Begins and was a fan since then. Happy to see that she's getting more diverse roles lately, and super impressed with her performance here as well.

Ep30-31 previews are tense af as well.

They found out each other's identity, and at each other's throat.
I'm so eager to watch and, at the same time, nervous at how things will explode. haha

Such tense atmosphere. Looks like the discovery of their identities is a gradual build up. Guess we are in for a ride.
