For instance, in the drama, Song Han claimed he wasn't initially aware about Madam Jiang's poisoning. In the novel, he knew the medicine was poisoned, but knowingly served it personally to Madam Jiang just because he didn't want to jeopardize his standing as the legitimate second son.

Yah. Just that his evil acts and characteristics were more well developed and tie in to the main plot more fluidly in the source material, the novel. I believe OP was referring to that.
I know Song Han has always been meant to be one of the show's villains but I think it would have been better if…
Totally agreed. In the novel, Song Han was in the know of all the bad deeds his father did and consciously involved as either first or third party accomplice. Hence, Song Mo's wrath and retribution toward Song Han was deservingly warranted, and vice versa for Song Han's resentment. In the drama, Song Han's share of responsibility for the deaths of both Madam Jiang and his birth mother seems to be lessened to a degree, reducing his role to an unwitting accomplice for those crimes.
I'm still hopefully that the script still has more to explore for Song Han's villainous character in the coming episodes. May be, the truth of Song Han's actual involvement in the past events are later discovered by Song Mo and Dou Zhao?
Like the show but 8.9 is too much, every drama these days are getting really high ratings like Lovely Runner
User ratings are subjective to begin with. Also, many viewers give their scores based on how they 'feel' rather than objectively assessing the technical aspects.
Imo, if a drama can captivate the audience and lead them to 'feel' something, they are already doing something right and deserves praise for that alone.
I was really looking forward to this series. I read the novel several times while I was waiting for the broadcast. The…
My assumption is that they are heading straight into the rebellion plot due to budget and episode constraints. You can see they cut off a ton of side characters, side plots, and quickly wrapped up even the Duke Ying main plot.
ah ok. Since you were already spoiled by the comments here, continue watching ep26. It's a good episode. We were praying for no noble idiocy route as well, and they delivered.
I tried to read the novel and it’s was the most draaaggggged out novel I have ever read. I had to stop because…
ahaha, guess it's not for you then. The pacing is more or less the same till the end. Now you can more or less guess how much modifications they made to the script for the story to maintain the tempo we now see on-screen, and present the whole story within 34 episodes. 😆
For me, I liked the novel. All those detailed interactions between characters add to the world building, and I enjoy reading the subtle power plays within those interactions. Of course, the detailed characterization and developments of our main characters as well.

Poison = Not included in the novel. It's a drama original plot.
