Extremely well written π I think you nailed the heart of it. I needed something else from the show (you already know that) but at least they treated Feng Suige and Fu Yixiao much better π
XJY was a useless and psychotic emperor but I actually felt sad when he died π him and the princess really…
You should read the book.
The drama Xia Jingshi is a totally different character they wrote who has zero similarities to the actual character from the book, except having the same name.
Yeah, Xia Jingshi of this show is a sore loser but the 'situationship' between the Emperor of Jinxiu and Princess…
Yup, but the show scarred me forever. π«π«
I'm happy for the Lead Couple (FSG + FYX) π
But, what they did to XJS + FXY's characters is unforgivable. ππ
Both Xia Jingshi and Feng Xiyang are tragic characters who could have been, but missed each other due to the 'Fault In Their Stars'. This is the crux of their story, the reason why their arc remains with the readers, long after the story ends. It hurts like hell, yes, but the moral complexities of these characters make them unforgettable.
Hence, this weird, out-of-character romance with the Emperor is like 'rubbing salt to the wound'.
The Emperor hated everyone associated closely with Xia Jingshi and relentlessly searched for opportunities to hurt / humiliate / torture Xia Jingshi whenever he could. The only reason Xiyang fell into his trap was because the Emperor promised her that he would change / make Xia Jingshi exclusively hers (Xiyang's). That is how he took advantage of Xiyang's vulnerability.
And so this sudden romance in the 'drama version' is π€’π£

The original Xia Jingshi built a mausoleum as huge as a mansion because Feng Xiyang died to save him from being imprisoned by the Emperor. Xia Jingshi was offering himself as the prisoner in exchange for sparing Xiyang. But look how they twisted the entire thing. π΅βπ«π€·π»ββοΈπ€―

The Emperor? He's very nice to Xiyang at first, and manipulates her with caution so that she finally falls in his trap. They don't have that kind of a relationship as shown in the show π€’. That's why I don't like it. All Feng Xiyang ever wanted was for Xia Jingshi to consider her. And look how they twisted it π€¦π»ββοΈ
Xia jingshi such a loser I'm loving the crazy chemistry between princess and jingyan ππ
Yeah, Xia Jingshi of this show is a sore loser but the 'situationship' between the Emperor of Jinxiu and Princess Feng Xiyang is unhinged. Both are teetering at the edge of ruin. Both are too far gone in their head π§ π₯
I'm happy for the character arcs of Feng Suige and Fu Yixiao because in the original version, they weren't that likable. At least now, this couple can have a better story and ending β

So yes, the writers did him 'dirty'.
I call it 'character assassination'.

I'll be writing it in my own blog. π
I'm just going to consider this pic as my Feng Xiyang and Xia Jingshi, if they were written better.
