Some characters are mean but they aren't annoying to me

To me there are no annoying characters and I haven't seen meddlessome exes. There is a ex but it's not that much of a problem.

I have a question, when Ying Yuan went down to the mortal realm I thought he would keep his memories so that he could Investigate about the war, so why did he lose his memories? Or did I misunderstand it?
